I much prefer [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] (I’d spell it Hawrthorne, though). [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] sounds so girlish to me, especially with the surname [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
Hmm, a lifetime of spelling it either way. 'hawthorn (without an ‘e’!) [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sounds like a species rather than a person, but [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sounds like a scented breeze air freshner. Neither is my style I’m afraid.
I like [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] more because I think it has real grounding as a name without being too different. I think that it has a masculine feel to it with the nn Zeph or Phyr (pronounced [name_m]FIRE[/name_m] at a stretch) X
I’d rather meet a little [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] any day, but with the surname [name_f]Rose[/name_f], any names that end with R are out…so I voted [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m].
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]!
I like [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u]. For some reason, [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] sounds more descriptive to me, like the name of a thing (a ship? an inn?). I dunno. Plus it has ‘thorn’ and ‘rose’ in the same name. [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] actually sounds more masculine to me in this case.
Edited for privacy.
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] is my favorite it has such nn potential as well…
[name_m]Thor[/name_m], [name_m]Thorn[/name_m], [name_m]Hawk[/name_m]…etc
Oh dear you can’t have [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] with surname [name_f]Rose[/name_f] ie [name_m]Thorny[/name_m] rose.
So it has to be [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u].
I voted [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] before I read your post - [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is not usable in my opinion. Sorry! [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] would be better, I supposed, but the R sounds bug me.
Neither is ideal with the surname [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. If I had to choose I have to go with [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u].
I think [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] (often nicknamed [name_m]THORN[/name_m]) might be a bad choice with the last name [name_f]Rose[/name_f].
But [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u] just makes me think of BABAR’s little monkey friend…sigh.
That said, I went with [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u], because its less horrible than [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m]. This is from a woman who actually named her son [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m].
ZephyrRose runs together. And Hawthorn is a stronger name but for obvious reasons I don’t like it with Rose.
Maybe you can suggest some other nature names to her (that don’t end in R) since that seems to be her style:
Aspen, Orion, Forest, Heath, Micah, Crane, Heathcliff
