[name_m]Hi[/name_m] berries!
Does anyone know anything about this name? Recently came across a little Ethiopian girl with this name and I find it super interesting, but I haven’t been able to find any info on it. I assume it’s Amharic in origin but admittedly this is a culture I know very little about. The closest I’ve come is Hawlet, which does seem to be Amharic in origin, but I haven’t found a reliable meaning.

Hawulte is an Ethiopian surname, so it might come from that? Can’t find any meanings though I’m afraid. ‘Haw’ can sometimes mean life/a variant of Eve? Lulit can mean ‘pearl’? but that’s just guess work
Seconding this! Hawa is an Eastern African variant of Eve, not Amharic I don’t think but used in Swahili and Arabic, which are spoken in the countries surrounding Ethiopia, so maybe there is some influence there? There are some Arabic speaking regions within Ethiopia as well where it might be used.
