[name_f]Do[/name_f] you like or dislike the name hazel? Why?
I see it mentioned often in the threads on here about names you don’t like and I’m trying to understand why.

I don’t like, but it’s not a bad name. It just seems like an ‘old’ name to me, and I’m not a big fan of old names. ([name_f]Esther[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], etc. all fall under this category for me.) This is just personal preference, though. If you like it go ahead and use it. That’s the most important thing!
I like it but I have an old lady association with it because the only lady I ever knew with this name was like a sweet 70 year old woman.
I absolutely adore [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]! She is one of my favorite ‘old lady’ names. Connected to nature, short, spunky. I don’t think she can go wrong!
I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]… it’s not old lady to me…
However my husband does get the old lady vibe so he hates it
I’ve never like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Fawn[/name_f] or [name_u]Blue[/name_u] as names, I just think of the colour and it doesn’t seem like a name. The exception is violet where I think of the flower. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] also seems as 70s as [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] but without the history, just Watership Down and nuts.
Perhaps the fact I first knew it as a surname is why it leaves me so cold?
I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], it’s a middle name option on my list, with [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. So, if you’re looking for middles, I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] works well! I knew someone around my age with the name, and she was a quiet, shy, sweet girl, so that’s who I think of. However, I do know several elderly women called [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] too. But, hey, “old-lady” names are in! If you love it, go for it!
I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]! I think it is my favourite nature name. I don’t get the old lady feel because the only [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] I have known was young but what’s wrong with ‘old lady’ names anyway? However, I think some are ready to be reused, like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], but others aren’t quite ready to be revived!
If you love the name then it doesn’t matter if other people think it’s old ladyish
I think of it more as old FASHIONED, rather than old LADY.
My husband has an aunt named [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and he adored her, so it has always had a positive association in our family!
I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. I would have used it for a second girl, but we had a boy! Surprisingly, Dh liked it too. My mother however laughed at us when we told her were considering [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. She said it was the name of an old maid. Pretty much everyone in the family shared my mother’s view.
It’s old-fashioned, but old-fashioned names are very on-trend right now. Some people don’t like them because they can’t get past their preconceived notion that only “old ladies” are named [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (or [name_f]Mabel[/name_f], or [name_f]Edith[/name_f], or whatever), but all old ladies used to be little girls. I think for the most part people get over it once they meet a child with that name and start to associate it with them instead.
I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is a fine name, although the “haze” sound is somewhat unappealing to me. I would never use it myself, only because it is my maternal grandmother’s name and my mom doesn’t have a relationship with her (she wasn’t a very good mother to my mom and her siblings, they ended up in foster care). If she was someone worth honoring, I’d use it in a heartbeat (even though I know for a fact my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] doesn’t like it).
I think [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] is beautiful and different.
I really like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
I really like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and think it’s a wonderful old fashioned name with a spunky feel. I knew others thought it was old ladyish but I was really surprised when some older women (in their 40s and up) mentioned the name as an example of a horrible name to give a baby. I mean they were vehemently against the comeback of hazel and couldn’t believe people would want to use it. I thought that was so strange! Almost funny how negatively some thought of that name that I felt was quite cute! Great example of ‘to each their own’ and it wouldn’t stop me from using it
[name_f]Love[/name_f] it!!!
I love [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. To me it’s not old-lady at all, it has much more of a nature, natural vibe. I’ve never grouped it in with the obvious old-lady genre, even though I have a particular dislike for those old and musty names (except [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]!)
I don’t like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. Unfortunately it sounds more of a hamster name to me.
I never really understood the attraction to it, TBH… It seems a bit dusty to me, but I mean, it’s not awful. I’d never use it, but I wouldn’t mind meeting a little [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]!
I really don’t like the name. I know the old fashioned names are really popular right now but I am definitely not in to that trend. I personally think it is an ugly sounding name.
It is also really popular in the yuppy and hipster communities so if you fall into one of those categories be prepared for a good many Hazels.
At the end of the day all that matters is that you like it. However, this is definitely a pick where you are either going to get people who love it or hate it (hopefully the haters will keep it to themselves) so you need to be prepared for that and be confident in your choice.
