Thoughts on Hedydd please! It means skylark. Would you have got the correct pn: HED-ith? Thoughts on the combination of Hedydd [name]Catriona[/name] [name]Jones[/name] (kah-tree-na)? It is DH’s favourite and although I love it, I’m not sure it would be pronounced correctly outside [name]Wales[/name]. Opinions please!
I don’t think it looks very appealing and if you hadn’t included the pn I’d never have guessed it was pronounced Hedith.
Not a fan at all, sorry.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Catriona[/name], but I prefer the Caitríona spelling
I also NEVER would have guessed the pronunciation. I definitely wouldn’t use it in the U.S. For a similar sound but easier prn and spelling, how about [name]Edith[/name]? Or for a similar meaning, what about [name]Catriona[/name] Skylark?
I would pronounce it Headed. Not something you want you daughter to be called, I don’t think. I think [name]Edith[/name] would be a much nicer alternative.
At first glance, I thought it was pretty homely. If I think of it as a Welsh name I can kind of see the appeal - kind of like how [name]Gertrude[/name] sounds pretty in [name]German[/name] but awful in English. The “skylark” meaning is nice. I’m familiar with the name similar name [name]Dafydd[/name] so I correctly guessed how Hedydd was pronounced.
I think someone in the UK would know how to say this - I know I did by seeing it - but I honestly don’t think it’s a very pretty name. The thing that pops into my mind when I see it is [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name]'s owl, [name]Hedwig[/name]! [name]Catriona[/name] Hedydd [name]Jones[/name] would be nicer if you want to honour DH’s suggestions - but there are so many other lovely Welsh names, like [name]Ffion[/name], [name]Rhian[/name], [name]Rhiannon[/name], [name]Anwen[/name], [name]Bronwen[/name] nn [name]Bonnie[/name], [name]Madlen[/name], etc etc that would be much easier to live with in an English-speaking environment (and are all very pretty names.) I think [name]Catriona[/name] [name]Lark[/name] or [name]Lark[/name] [name]Catriona[/name] would also be beautiful. Since your name is [name]Caoimhe[/name], why not go with an Irish Gaelic name as well, like [name]Aoife[/name] or [name]Saoirse[/name], or the cross-Gaelic [name]Eilidh[/name]? All of these are much more easily pronouncable to English speakers in the UK. A combination of these, e.g. [name]Saoirse[/name] [name]Anwen[/name] [name]Lark[/name], would be a nod to DH’s ideas and so cute!
No I thought it was pronounced Hed-did. I think outside of [name]Wales[/name] you would get alot of confused people about the pronunciation I’m afraid¬
