[name_f]My[/name_f] partner and I have a blended family with three kids, and are expecting our fourth (which is our first together). This weekend we learned it’s a boy
[name_f][/name_f]
We have a few names tossing around but want to build a solid list, and narrow down to 2-3 names by the time baby is born.
[name_f][/name_f]
Here is where we are headed so far:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Donovan[/name_m] (my fave) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Elijah[/name_m] (his fave) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]River[/name_m] (a bit to rhymey with last name)
[name_f][/name_f]
Names we like but can’t use:
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Cameron[/name_m] (my like) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Adrian[/name_m] (quite similar to my daughter’s name) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Alexander[/name_m] (his like) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rafael[/name_m] (doesn’t jive with last name)
[name_f][/name_f]
Baby’s last name is the same as [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] Rider’s, but spelled differently. For this reason, I’m not crazy about names ending in ER. Unfortunately it also rules out [name_m]Flynn[/name_m], which would have been a great honour name!
[name_f][/name_f]
Our kids names are (not spelling fully for privacy reasons)
I also love a name with a good nickname! 2/3 of our kids go almost exclusively by their nicknames, the third has a totally made up one that we only use at home.
I love [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] with your set! [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] is also nice, though I agree [name_m]River[/name_m] is too rhyme-y with your last name.
[name_f][/name_f]
Maybe you’d like… [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sullivan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dominic[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sampson[/name_m] / [name_m]Samson[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Campbell[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dorian[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tristan[/name_m] (I like how this would give you two A names and two T names) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Finn[/name_m] (maybe too close to [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] though) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (same as above, I like the idea of another T name) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Elias[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Alec[/name_m] (not sure if having 3/4 with A names would make T feel left out, though?) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gavin[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Russell[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Beckett[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Bennett[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Atticus[/name_m] (same concern as above with another A name) [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] / [name_m]Max[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Elliott[/name_m]
Thanks for the suggestions! Funny thing as well, my name also starts with a T, and my partner’s with an A [name_f][/name_f] it would be cute, and we have loosely discussed [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] as an option before we knew he was a he.
[name_f][/name_f]
I think part of the issues is I feel very bonded to the name [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] with this baby. It came to mind almost immediately after I learned I was pregnant and had never been on my radar. I’m trying to be open to other options! I do genuinely like [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] as a name but am having a hard time putting it with the last name, am not nuts for [name_m]Eli[/name_m] as a nn. But it’s my partner’s favourite so I’ll sit with it on our short list and see if I have a change or heart.
[name_f][/name_f]
Many of your suggestions we have actually discussed and they’ve been on and off the list, so you’re very on point! I’ll have a think over many of these and see which we should seriously consider for the long list.
I think [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] and [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] both work well with your set while tapping into different aspects of your blended sibling set. Not sure if popularity is a factor in your decision making, but [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] is currently much more popular in the US than [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] (though so is your T’s name). I like alliteration, but I agree [name_m]River[/name_m] is too much. I think [name_m]Rafael[/name_m] works, though!
[name_f][/name_f]
Other suggestions (avoiding -er, long “i” sounds, and another A beginning):
[name_f][/name_f]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Declan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Cormac[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Zane[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Kieran[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nico[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jonah[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Caleb[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ezra[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_f]Sage[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Forest[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Blake[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Chase[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dylan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Logan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Evan[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Damian[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Owen[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Jude[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Lucas[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Dante[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Reuben[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Florian[/name_m] [name_f][/name_f][name_m]Tobias[/name_m] (has a long “i” but I think it works + another T!)
I like Donovan best with your set. to me, your set is outdoorsy, bucolic and nostalgic. While a nature name, River feels too boho/ hip and unisex next to the others. Elijah is my second pick - I like Eli but I would first see if you can find something a bit more grounded than Elijah, where the other names all have a solid quality to them due to the stronger letters.
Other ideas:
Tobias
Tiernan (quite like the idea of two As and two Ts)
Felix
Wilkie
Murphy
Sullivan
Evren
Jarvis
Calloway
Rupert
Shepherd
Rafferty
Thanks so much! Not overly concerned about popularity/common names, however I like to avoid overly trendy names (out of fear they don’t stand the test of time).
[name_f][/name_f]
I had a feeling T would become popular but it doesn’t bother me. He actually wants this baby to have the same name as him but add “too”, or [name_m]Leo[/name_m] ha!
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] was my son’s name for a few days, I LOVE it but it just wasn’t him. Still one of my favourites but we agreed not to consider names that were contenders for our previous children.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favourite from your list is [name_m]Elijah[/name_m]! I’ve always loved [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] he’s handsome, strong, rich in biblical history, has a lovely meaning with an outdoorsy flair. [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] is gorgeous! I think he works well with your surname too.
[name_f][/name_f]
I think [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] is very strong and has a 90s boy next door flair. I think [name_m]Donovan[/name_m] with your surname does work well. Whereas [name_m]River[/name_m] is gorgeous but just doesn’t work with your surname.
[name_f][/name_f]
You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
