Can you name a white baby “[name_f]Mila[/name_f]”? We’re in love with this name, but have gotten a lot of negative feedback based on the fact that it’s a name of Slavic origin. As much as I love this name, I don’t want her to be named something that her peers are going to question once she’s older. Opinions???
:?
Absolutely. [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is a gorgeous name and if you love it you should go for it. I don’t immediately think Slavic when I hear it and I don’t think you should worry about peers questioning the origin of her name.
Of course, it’s a pretty international name and fits right in with all the [name_f]Milly[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f] names out there.
I don’t think it matters at all. We are not in the times of segregation anymore and this is like segregating baby names! [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is beautiful.
I don’t really see why not. I don’t really associate [name_f]Mila[/name_f] with any particular skin colour.
Well, since Slavic people are white, I don’t really see what the problem is.
Haha yeah, my thoughts exactly.
[name_f]Jenna[/name_f] [name_m]Bush[/name_m] apparently thinks so!
I’m confused. It’s a Slavic name and Slavic people are white…
I agree, I don’t understand why you’re concerned considering that Slavic people are white…
But anyway, of course you can use it for a white baby.
Yes. Yes.
I am also confused, but of course.
Absolutely.
This exactly. To my knowledge, the only people who don’t consider Slavs white are the same people who don’t consider Jews white, which is to say [name_m]Aryan[/name_m] supremacists…in which case your daughter’s name will be the least of her problems.
Um… yes?

We have names of Greek, Basque, Central [name_f]Asian[/name_f] (Kyrgyz), Swedish, Turkish and Sanskrit/Hindu origin on our list. Neither of us are any of these things. Our child will be predominantly [name_m]German[/name_m] and Scottish with [name_f]East[/name_f] [name_f]Asian[/name_f] and Native American on the side. I’m not going to limit myself to [name_m]German[/name_m], Gaelic, Japanese and Native American names.
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] is a lovely name for any little girl regardless of race or ethnicity. I don’t really see the problem. Perhaps, the OP meant to ask if it was “too ethnic” (/“too Slavic”) of a name for her baby?
Of course. [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is lovely.
I agree with this.
Um, yes? Honestly, I laughed at this post. Sometimes people can be way too politically correct. It’s like me asking, “Can I name my daughter [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]? But it’s an Italian name and I’m not Italian.” Who cares? I don’t think you have to be from a particular country to name your baby a name from that country.
I know a little girl named [name_f]Mila[/name_f] and I have never thought that it was too Slavic. I think it is a nice name for any little girl.
