I’m having a baby girl in three months and desperately need some naming advice/suggestions. Here are the names that my husband and I like, but I haven’t found a name or first name/mn combo that I really love. We are trying to find something unique, but not too out there.
[name]Sloane[/name]
[name]Marlowe[/name]
[name]Annie[/name] (family name)
[name]Cecilia[/name] - nn [name]Celie[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name] - nn [name]Evie[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Lola[/name]

[name]Sloane[/name] - not my style, too unisex. Sometimes I like unisex names though.
[name]Marlowe[/name] - ditto
[name]Annie[/name] (family name) - [name]Anna[/name] is a great idea. Also [name]Annika[/name] and [name]Anneliese[/name] - I like [name]Anneliese[/name] spelled the Scandinavian way. [name]Annie[/name] is kind of dated now, I think, as a full name. Could be a nickname.
[name]Cecilia[/name] - nn [name]Celie[/name] - also love [name]Cecily[/name] nn Cessie. [name]Celia[/name] is a great nn for [name]Cecilia[/name].
[name]Mae[/name] - so pretty, also [name]Maeve[/name] is lovely.
[name]Evangeline[/name] - nn [name]Evie[/name] - love it! But I wouldn’t name my own daughter that as I’ve mentioned in other posts. It’s just too much for me.
[name]Harper[/name] - now here is a unisex name that I love.
[name]Lola[/name] - love as a nn for [name]Paloma[/name] or [name]Lourdes[/name].
Thanks for your help! - we love to help!
Justthinkin, love your idea of [name]Esme[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name]! [name]Anna[/name] is great, too!
Other thoughts (I will star my faves):
[name]Alice[/name]* - [name]Love[/name] it, adore it. So pretty!
[name]Audra[/name]*
[name]Caroline[/name]* - one of my faves lately. lots of nns on “check out a name”. I thought of [name]Callie[/name].
[name]Celeste[/name]* nn Cessie
[name]Claire[/name]/[name]Clara[/name]*
[name]Eliza[/name]*
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Esther[/name]*
[name]Evelyn[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] - so pretty, getting popular.
[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Genevieve[/name] - pretty, too! my fave nn is [name]Evie[/name] with a short “e” sound.
[name]Georgia[/name]*
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Helen[/name]/[name]Helena[/name] nn [name]Nell[/name]
[name]Heloise[/name]
[name]Henrietta[/name] - I think [name]Hattie[/name] could be a nn for [name]Henrietta[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]
[name]Jacqueline[/name]* nn [name]Jackie[/name] - I just love [name]Jackie[/name]!
[name]Lucy[/name]* - popular
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Mabel[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]* nn [name]Maisie[/name]
[name]Marian[/name], [name]Mary[/name] nn [name]Polly[/name]. I love [name]Polly[/name]!
[name]Olive[/name]/[name]Olivia[/name], but [name]Olivia[/name] is super popular, too bad.
[name]Penelope[/name]* nn [name]Penny[/name], [name]Poppy[/name]
[name]Rosemary[/name]* nn [name]Rosie[/name], [name]Romy[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Sarah[/name] nn [name]Sally[/name]*
[name]Susannah[/name]*
[name]Tessa[/name]* nn [name]Tess[/name], [name]Tessie[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name]*** nn [name]Vera[/name]
[name]Violet[/name] - I think [name]Violet[/name] will become super popular
[name]Vivian[/name]** nn [name]Vivi[/name]
[name]Sloane[/name] - love this
[name]Marlowe[/name] - haven’t heard this as a girl’s name before, but quite like it
[name]Annie[/name] (family name) - I like this as a nickname for [name]Anne[/name] or [name]Anna[/name] (or one of the [name]Ann[/name] name family)
[name]Cecilia[/name] - nn [name]Celie[/name] - I like this, but not as much as some of the others
[name]Mae[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Mae[/name], especially as a first name where it’s more unusual
[name]Evangeline[/name] - nn [name]Evie[/name] - very fresh sounding and I like the nn (although it’s quite popular)
[name]Harper[/name] - love
[name]Lola[/name] - I love the sound of [name]Lola[/name], but wouldn’t be brave enough to use it as a first name
I’m not great at coming up with combinations, and I’m not sure the names above lend themselves to that (unless [name]Annie[/name] and [name]Mae[/name] take the mn spot where they’re quite common), so instead I’ll try and give you some names that remind me of the sort of names you have listed.
Thanks everyone, I gave really got some thinking to do! I really love [name]Cecilia[/name], but I always picture a beautiful dark haired woman, when I think of the name. This baby will most likely have blond hair, and I’m having trouble picturing a blond [name]Cecilia[/name]. Is that strange??
Hey [name]Celie[/name] is cute, there is an Irish writer named [name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Ahern[/name] she is blonde and really pretty if that helps.
I dislike [name]Sloane[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] because it sounds too harsh for a girl (just imo)
[name]Annie[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name] is cute esp if [name]Annie[/name] has special meaning to you
[name]Annie[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Anais[/name] [name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Esme[/name]
[name]Anais[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name] [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Evie[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name]
[name]Laura[/name] ([name]Lola[/name]) [name]Cecilia[/name]
In the movie “The Importance of Being [name]Ernest[/name]”, [name]Reese[/name] Witherspoon plays the character [name]Cecily[/name]. In [name]England[/name] there are a lot of fair haired people who have exotic names. For this reason, I don’t think of [name]Cecilia[/name] as having a certain color of hair. My grandmother-in-law was named [name]Cecilia[/name], and she had perfectly white hair and bright blue eyes. Her nn was [name]Ceil[/name].
I think it has something to do with the [name]Simon[/name] and Garfunkel song. I always pictured the girl in the song as having dark hair, maybe even Italian. But then I read it may have been about his dog. Go figure.
[name]Sloane[/name] - slang over here in [name]England[/name] for a spoilt, airheaded, preppy, privately-educated person. It actually makes quite a nice name though, as long as you don’t plan on moving here.
[name]Marlowe[/name] - I’m not so fond of this one.
[name]Annie[/name] - I really like this, and it is such a classic. I quite like it for a nn, too - how about [name]Annabel[/name] or [name]Anastasia[/name]?
[name]Cecilia[/name] nn [name]Celie[/name] - a pretty classic, with such an adorable nn. I picture [name]Cecilia[/name] as having blonde hair, funnily enough … I like [name]Cecily[/name], too (and The Importance of Being [name]Ernest[/name]!).
[name]Mae[/name] - a nice mn.
[name]Evangeline[/name] nn [name]Evie[/name] - very pretty!
[name]Harper[/name] - not my personal style.
[name]Lola[/name] - a nice nn, perhaps for [name]Lolita[/name] (although, I would personally be shocked if I met a little [name]Lolita[/name], because of the reference, so you’d have to be prepared for that reaction) or for [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Louisa[/name]/[name]Louise[/name] etc.

[name]Evadne[/name] (ev-ad-nee)
[name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Isla[/name].
Okay, my husband and I have decided on [name]Marlow[/name] for a first name, even though it wasn’t very well liked in this post. It has really grown on us. We are now stuck on a MN, as nothing in my original post seems to fit. Any suggestions? Our last name starts with a D and has 2 syllables.

I like [name]Marlow[/name], though personally I would spell it [name]Marlo[/name]. As for a mn, since fn and ln are two syllables, middle names that have one or three syllables will probably flow best. Although some two syllable mn’s would sound nice.
I like [name]Marlow[/name] a nn of [name]Marlie[/name] would be really cute. I also like the spelling [name]Marlo[/name] but you both love [name]Marlow[/name].
