Our son has been born for 2 weeks now, and we are still struggling with his name… We are hoping to pick a name that is surfy-type, or ocean-related. We are a family of surfers, and we love spending time at the beach…
Thanks for your help!

[name]How[/name] about [name]Ripley[/name] ([name]Rip[/name]) or Riptide Swell last name!
Or Grommit.
Grom for short.
Or Endo [name]Pearl[/name] Last name.
Or Mysto Spot (kinda funny but fits your lifestyle)
I come from a part of the world that’s famous for its surf, so I grew up with a lot of people with these kind of names. The most surf-y family I know have two sons named [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Reef[/name]. There’s also:
[name]Reed[/name]
[name]Bay[/name]
[name]Taj[/name]
[name]Kai[/name]
[name]Jay[/name]
[name]Storm[/name]
[name]Steele[/name]
[name]Zane[/name]
[name]Kane[/name]
[name]Creed[/name]
[name]Bodhi[/name]
[name]Brody[/name]
[name]Sonny[/name]
[name]Harley[/name]
[name]Sandy[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Jesse[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]
Most of these are names of guys I actually know, and a couple just evoke that beachy feel to me.
I’m in the same boat! (no pun intended haha!)
My first is [name]Brody[/name] [name]Lee[/name]. Due 2nd little boy in early Nov.
so far our favs are [name]Holden[/name] ([name]Holden[/name] [name]Beach[/name], NC) [name]Noah[/name], and [name]Fischer[/name]
Here’s some other ideas…
[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Cayo[/name]
[name]Grey[/name]
[name]Curren[/name] (like surfer [name]Tom[/name] [name]Curren[/name])
[name]Dane[/name]
[name]Cayden[/name]
[name]River[/name]
[name]Oakley[/name]
I like the above poster’s list too! Our little guy remains nameless- I think we’ll have to see him first to get a feel for what his name should be, would love to hear your ideas too!
My husband and I both surf and [name]Brody[/name] is a little fish. I don’t want my babies to grow up too fast, but I can’t wait until we can all take surf trips to [name]Costa[/name] [name]Rica[/name] together.
good luck!
I like [name]Bodhi[/name] a lot, and would totally be considering it except the husband specifically doesn’t like the surfer beachy feel. I love it though and at least his opinion is sort of proof that the name brings to mind the feeling you want!
Good luck!
Thx for the suggestions. Our 3yo daughter is called Kirra after Kirra beach. We live in [name]California[/name] and I haven’t found any Boy’s beach name we like… Rincon just won’t cut it… We like [name]Bodhi[/name] but a little friend already has that name… [name]How[/name] about [name]Dylan[/name]?
I like that you named your daughter after a beach! pull out a map of [name]California[/name] for more inspiration maybe?
[name]Cruz[/name] (for [name]Santa[/name] [name]Cruz[/name])
[name]Huntington[/name] ([name]Huntington[/name] [name]Beach[/name])
[name]Clemente[/name] (San [name]Clemente[/name])
Morro (Morro [name]Bay[/name])
[name]Venice[/name] ([name]Venice[/name] [name]Beach[/name] - too girly?)
[name]Dana[/name] ([name]Dana[/name] Point)
Gosh, I’ve looked at all the surf breaks up/down the coast, but haven’t found anything that really sounds great for a boy’s name… At this point, I think we might go with [name]Dylan[/name] or [name]Evan[/name]. Any preference? Or any other suggestions? Thanks.
[name]Beau[/name] or [name]Bo[/name]
[name]Tanner[/name]
[name]Ryker[/name] or [name]Ryder[/name]
[name]Hunter[/name]
[name]Hurley[/name]
Hollister
[name]Fox[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Nico[/name]
[name]Leif[/name]
[name]Gage[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Breccan[/name]
[name]Keifer[/name]
[name]Koby[/name]
[name]Ty[/name]
[name]Flynn[/name]
[name]Love[/name] suggestion of [name]Reef[/name]! I would not use [name]Dylan[/name]. It seems dated and I feel like you need a really cool name! [name]Bodhi[/name] would be my pick, but get your reasons. What about naming him after a famous surfer?
I love the name [name]Dylan[/name]. Always have.
Also wanted to suggest:
Nalu – hawaiian for “wave”
[name]Zale[/name] – greek, “sea strength”. Also nice alternative to [name]Zane[/name] or [name]Dane[/name] which I think are both gaining popularity esp. among the surf crowd.
[name]Hurley[/name] – irish, “sea tide” but also impossible to separate from the brand. Still I love this name.
Pontus – greek name for a coastal region. I knew a Pontus when I was younger. Super cool kid.
I love the suggestion of [name]Cruz[/name]. A friend of mine just named her baby that and I love it. It also goes well with your daughter’s name and sticks with a trend. Good luck! I live five minutes from the beach but can’t think of any suggestions.
I think both names are cute but I like [name]Evan[/name] a bit more.
other ideas-
[name]Brock[/name]
[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Clay[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Sage[/name]
[name]Wylie[/name]
[name]Bowie[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Theo[/name]
[name]Shane[/name]
[name]Cale[/name]
[name]Davin[/name]
[name]Tate[/name]
[name]Dane[/name]
[name]Troy[/name]
[name]Kean[/name]
[name]Calum[/name]
[name]Reed[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
hoping for an update! Did you go with [name]Evan[/name]?
[name]Dean[/name] is a great '60’s retro surfer-esque name.
Maybe [name]Rye[/name] or [name]Nye[/name]?
I think [name]Rye[/name] means born by the sea, or something like that, and [name]Nye[/name] is the name of a small coastal town near where I grew up…
I’m thinking of [name]Nye[/name] for a girls middle name, myself.
[name]Wayne[/name] Dyer (motivational speaker) has a son named Sands.
My heritage is Maori the name Tahi (pronouced TA-HEE) means ocean or Moana (pronounced [name]MO[/name]-[name]AH[/name]-NAH) means sea. Although I do think Moana is more suited to a girl, I have several cousins with this name.
It depends on your own personal preference, but I don’t see [name]Dylan[/name] being in tune with your love of surfing or the ocean. I live in Australia where surfing and the beach are a way of life. For this reason, I have friends who’ve named their sons [name]Reef[/name], [name]Ocean[/name] and [name]Breeze[/name]. A little different for my tastes, but suits their family to a tee!
Good luck and congratualtions on your little man
[name]Dylan[/name] is the Welsh god of the sea. A good choice.
