Help! Daughter Due in 1 Week | Name Needed for the Sister of Colin & Benjamin

My husband and I are struggling to agree on a name for our daughter, and she’s due in 1 week. Her older brothers are named [name_m]Colin[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Phillip[/name_m].

These are the names currently at the top of our list (although we’re interested in new ideas too, so share suggestions if you have any new ideas). The first name is what’s stressing me out the most, but I’m also happy accept votes for my daughter’s middle name too. Here’s our short list:

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] ([name_f]Maggie[/name_f] as a nickname)
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
Elliotte (nickname = [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]); open to other spellings for this name too, such as [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] (nickname = [name_f]Emmy[/name_f])
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]

Ideally, we’d like to get a name that starts with O or E in the first or middle name to honor my husband’s grandmother who recently passed away.

Thank you for your help!

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Katrina[/name_f], and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] are my favorites with the brother names. Maggie sounds really nice with this sibset, so Margot gets my top vote! I like how Katrina repeats the “in” from the brother names, but it is challenging to come up with a combo.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f] [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] or Katrina Olivia
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]

Immediately I’d cut [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] , [name_u]Everly[/name_u] and Elliotte - They’re not bad just a huge style departure.

My top from your list is [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] - classic and sweet just like [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m].

For a middle name I’d pick Violet - it’s pretty and slightly vintage and also cuts down some name choices.

Francesca
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Helen[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_u]Joyce[/name_u]
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f]
Eleanor
Alice
Mabel
Katherine (I’ve gone with this spelling as I’m guessing you want your kids to each have separate initials though Kathryn or Catherine would work too)
Kaitlin

I think off this list I’d go with Katherine Violet - elegant and beautiful but with an edge.

I love [name_f]Margot[/name_f]!

Possible name combos:
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] [name_f]Ora[/name_f]
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Reinette[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Erin[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Oliana[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_f]Erin[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f]
Estelle Josephine

Loving [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Katrina[/name_f] from your list. Maybe [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_u]Everly[/name_u]. The rest not really.

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f] [name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]

[name_m]Colin[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] gets my vote. Followed by [name_f]Katrina[/name_f]. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] goes very nicely as well, I just like the other 2 better. Good luck!

Your boys have wonderful names! I am especially partial to [name_m]Colin[/name_m] since it is the name of my younger brother. From your list, my first choice is [name_f]Margot[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Violet[/name_f]. I also like the combinations [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Margo[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f].

My suggestions:

[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]: [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] are both popular, classic names with history and gravity. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] fits this style to a t, and it suits the vintage feel of [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].

[name_f]Teresa[/name_f]/[name_f]Theresa[/name_f]: I feel bad recommending my own middle name, but I think it would work very well with [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. It is a serious name with lots of excellent namesakes, and is vaguely British like [name_m]Colin[/name_m].

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]: If you are looking for an “E” name, I think this could be just about right. It has both the “[name_f]Em[/name_f]-” of [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] and the “-el” of Elliotte. This is another vintage classic, and matches the style of [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. It is a beautiful, strong name.

[name_u]Rowan[/name_u]: Tailored, like [name_m]Colin[/name_m], but subtly containing some of the sounds of [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. This name has mystique and substance, and is unisex like [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], and [name_u]Everly[/name_u].

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]: Such a bright, beautiful feminine name. It’s beautiful like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] but with an unusual and vibrant twist, like [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]. I think [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Colin[/name_m], and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] make great siblings.

For combo ideas from this list, [name_f]Theresa[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] are beautiful, and as is [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped, and best of luck!

For me, [name_m]Colin[/name_m] & [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] are classic & traditional, & consequently I’d go w/a classic & traditional feminine name. My favorite by far from your list is [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], as it seems to fit perfectly into that category. ([name_f]Margot[/name_f] also falls into that category; it’s just not a name I’ve ever warmed to.) Elliotte, [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], & [name_u]Everly[/name_u] seem too modern & unisex to fit well w/[name_m]Colin[/name_m] & [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (& w/Elliotte, I think you’ll have to deal w/constant misspellings).

Names that begin w/E or O & feel classic & traditional:

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]/[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]/[name_f]Elisa[/name_f]/[name_f]Elissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]/[name_f]Emilie[/name_f]/[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Elanor[/name_f]/[name_f]Elinor[/name_f]
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]/[name_f]Elana[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Eliane[/name_f]

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f]
[name_f]Olympia[/name_f] (maybe too frilly)

Are there things about your grandmother-in-law that could be used as inspiration? [name_m]Favorite[/name_m] flower, color, gem, etc.?

Other options that I like w/[name_m]Colin[/name_m] & [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (apologies for repeats):

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Laurel[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f])
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet/name_f
[name_f]Ione[/name_f] (eye-OWN-ee…means “violet flower” according to Behind the Name & “violet stone” according to Nameberry)
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
[name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]/[name_u]Nicola[/name_u]
[name_f]Serena[/name_f]

Good luck!

From your list [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is my favorite! I think it matches well with [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and there’s a ton of middle name potential! I also think [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] could work well as a nickname for the sibset but I’m not sure [name_f]Margot[/name_f] really works although [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] could. Same goes for [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], Elliotte doesn’t;t really have the same style as [name_m]Colin[/name_m] and [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] but [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are both good choices that would work.
I am also going to second [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Theresa[/name_f], [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (lots of nn potential here too if that’s the route you want to go), I think all sound really good with your boys’ names.
In a edition I’ll add [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f]/[name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] (again, plenty of nn), [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], and [name_u]Harper[/name_u].

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] would be my top choice and goes great with your boys.
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] second choices

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]

I love the suggestions of [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Julia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_f]Margot[/name_f]/[name_f]Maggie[/name_f] in that order are the best 3 I think.

I would cross off [name_u]Everly[/name_u], Elliotte and [name_m]Emmerson[/name_m] as a different style and not as timeless as the others. If you really love one of these use it in the middle.

I like [name_f]Margo[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]!

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]- I feel is excepted and sort of blah
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f]- Feels dated
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u](nickname =[name_f]Emmy[/name_f])- would sound better as a brother to your boys
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]- to trendy for your sibset
Elliotte- see above

Suggestions:

First thing that came to mind was [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Paige[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] “[name_f]Mila[/name_f]”

[name_m]Colin[/name_m], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], & ______

[name_f]Marnie[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u] “[name_f]Della[/name_f]” [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
[name_f]Jocelyn[/name_f] “[name_u]Josie[/name_u]”
Tabitba [name_f]Wrenn[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] “[name_f]Talia[/name_f]” [name_f]Fern[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] “[name_u]Rory[/name_u]” [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u]/[name_u]Romy[/name_u] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Kirsten[/name_f] “[name_u]Kit[/name_u]” [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]
[name_u]Hadley[/name_u] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Rachela[/name_f] “[name_f]Mia[/name_f]”
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Norah[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] “[name_f]Etta[/name_f]”
[name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]

I like Elliotte and [name_u]Everly[/name_u].

I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] a lot and it fits perfectly with the brothers. Second choice would be [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but I might prefer it short for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]. I’ll also suggest [name_f]Elise[/name_f] as a first.

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] (maybe nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], Katrina or [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]/[name_f]Margot[/name_f].

Another name that struck me was [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Means you can use [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] - or Elsa, [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f] etc - but it’s still in keeping with the others.

[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u]/ [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] [name_f]Opal[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u] is gorgeous
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f] [name_f]Elyse[/name_f]
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f] [name_f]Olwyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Emerson[/name_u] [name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] [name_f]Odelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Katrina[/name_f] [name_f]Elowen[/name_f]

Thank you; I greatly appreciate all this feedback (and new ideas too!) [name_f]Margot[/name_f] ([name_f]Maggie[/name_f]), [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] were my husband and my mutual favorites within the list posting, so it’s not surprising that everyone thinks those pair best with our other kids’ names. I guess our mutual name preferences are a consistent style across all 3 kids!

Since there’s consensus on which 3 pair best as a set of sibling names, if you were to vote based on WHICH FIRST NAME DO YOU LIKE BEST FOR ALL LIFE STAGES (and not just based on what pairs well with the brothers’ names), which do you prefer between [name_f]MARGOT[/name_f] ([name_f]MAGGIE[/name_f]), [name_f]SOPHIE[/name_f] and [name_f]VIOLET[/name_f]? Once we figure out the first name, we can have fun pairing it with a middle name and I love a lot of the new ideas for that.

I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] best with the brothers names (and I also really like that name) and I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] second best with the brothers names (but like that name the most).

WHICH FIRST NAME [name_f]DO[/name_f] YOU LIKE BEST FOR ALL LIFE STAGES (and not just based on what pairs well with the brothers’ names),
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

I think all three names will age well and adapt to life stages and contexts really well.

[name_f]Margot[/name_f] is in some ways the most versatile as has [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] too which is great for a kid and teen and then for an old lady! It’d be hard not to warm to a [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is tried and tested and a pretty, happy-making, but also no-nonsense and sophisticated name. It’ll be refreshing among all the more hip names like [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]’s a good name for any profession too. I don’t know any old lady Sophies but there must be thousands of them in, say, [name_f]France[/name_f] alone! [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is a beautiful name, and [name_f]Vi[/name_f] is great. It’s more self-conscious than the others and like [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is especially great for youth and old age (though she will be among peers called [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] so it’ll make sense right through).

I really I don’t think any are problematic. I think you can choose on basis of which sparks joy (oh god, Kondo!)/ feels right when you say it, goes best with your last name and seems to suit her when she arrives.

I would get full names ready for all three and enjoy the process! It’s likely one will sit out in front anyway but good to have one or two extras on the list. My extra ended up being the name we used!

I like the sound and look of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_u]Emerson[/name_u]!
Good luck x
