Same story as our boys thread, I’m having my baby via C-Section next thursday and we want to add some more names to our list for consideration. We chose our daughters name after she was born, and plan to do the same. Our daughters name is [name]Nirvana[/name] [name]Kate[/name]. We like uncommon middle names and also prefer normal/short/simple middle names. (Mainly so they have a more ‘normal’ name to fall back on, just in case!)
Our girls list is currently:
[name]Aberdeen[/name] - Ok so this is also on the boys list (I prefer it for a boy), it’s a family name that was used on both genders. I’m not a fan of the NN [name]Abbie[/name] though so we probably wont use it as it will get shorted to that. We adore the nickname [name]Birdie[/name] for it though.

But like I said in the boys thread I can’t see us using any of these, none of them feel like the one. DH seems to think that we’ll just know which one is right when we meet the baby but I’m pretty worried that we’ll just settle on a name just because we have to, instead of choosing a name that we really love. (I’m probably being paranoid but I don’t want to regret our childs name.)
Middle name will either be [name]Beth[/name], [name]Tess/name, [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Eve[/name]. We’re not sure which yet but it will be one of those.
So what would you name a sister to [name]Nirvana[/name] [name]Kate[/name]? Throw some uncommon ones at us!
I really like [name]Aberdeen[/name] [name]Tess[/name] nn [name]Birdie[/name]! I think if you establish a nn and use it, others will follow instead of changing to [name]Abbie[/name]. I also like [name]Indigo[/name] [name]Eve[/name] from your list.
I definitely would NOT use the name [name]Aberdeen[/name]. If you have a girl named [name]Nirvana[/name], and another girl (or boy for that matter) named [name]Aberdeen[/name], people will probably immediately make the connection to [name]Kurt[/name] Cobain (at least I did). If you didn’t know, he was the lead singer of the band [name]Nirvana[/name], and he grew up in [name]Aberdeen[/name], [name]Washington[/name]. Out of all the names on your list, I think [name]Nirvana[/name] goes best with [name]Astoria[/name]. [name]Nirvana[/name] [name]Kate[/name] and [name]Astoria[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] sound super cute, but they’ll sound great too in the long run, and when your daughters are older.

I’m so glad you pointed it out! haha! We didn’t name her after the band, its a family name but it seems a little themey to name her after the place where [name]Kurt[/name] was from. [name]Astoria[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is one of my favourites! It’s so beautiful! Thanks!

nopland - I wish I was brave enough, I really love it. My DH says it’s silly of me to be so concerned about it considering that everytime we introduce our daughter, they say ‘What? Like the band?’ so we’re pretty much used to comments like that! Maybe I’ll be brave enough when she’s born if she suits it (I wasn’t sure about the name [name]Nirvana[/name] either, until I met her).

from your list my favorites are [name]Aberdeen[/name], Everdeen, and [name]Astoria[/name]. I really like the idea of [name]Nirvana[/name] and [name]Astoria[/name] as sisters.
I made the [name]Aberdeen[/name], [name]Washington[/name] / [name]Kurt[/name] Cobain connection as well. Maybe [name]Amandine[/name] instead of [name]Aberdeen[/name]? Or Aboline? I really think it’s unusable with [name]Nirvana[/name] unless super-fan is what you’re going for. Maybe a name like [name]Veda[/name] would work with [name]Nirvana[/name] and take it to a less grungy & more spiritual kind of place? Maybe goddessy names like [name]Isis[/name] would work? What aspect of [name]Nirvana[/name] drew you to the name?

taz - Yeah, I think we’ll ditch [name]Aberdeen[/name], I’ll be too paranoid about people making the connection. I mentioned it too DH before and he pulled a face, I think he feels the same way. And [name]Nirvana[/name] was a family name on my DH’s side that we found which we crushed on for ages then decided to add it to our list, and then she suited it perfectly when she was born! I can’t really pinpoint a certain aspect of the name that appealed to us!

I’ll add another vote for Everdeen. It’s beautiful, and I always love seeing family names being used. [name]Eva[/name] or [name]Deenie[/name] are adorable nicknames.
I prefer [name]Atalanta[/name] to [name]Atlanta[/name]…[name]Nirvana[/name] strikes a spiritual note with me so the mythological [name]Atalanta[/name] fits better.
I also adore [name]Olivine[/name] from your list.
And I had that same paranoia naming our second child as well. If it helps, we waited until baby was born and she kind of picked her own name. She just looked like a [name]Daphne[/name]. Best of luck with your new addition!
