Help find a name for June baby?!

[name]Hi[/name] everyone. I’ve been lurking for a long time, but this is my first time posting. My fiance and I are expecting in [name]June[/name] 2013 and we’ve just started talking about names in earnest and we have very different styles. Girl names are a little easier for us, mostly I think because he’s convinced we’re having another boy. Our 3 year old was super easy, we both loved [name]Ephraim[/name] and [name]Joseph[/name] was a family name. This time we’re have a little harder time.

Anyway, he’s shot down some of the names I love like:
[name]August[/name]
[name]Albert[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Barnaby[/name]

And proposed some that I can’t stand:
[name]Cornelius[/name] (gross)
[name]Michael[/name]-[name]Patrick[/name] (I hate this for sooo many reasons. When he suggested it, I snorted. He started to say “we can spell it-” and I cut him off there. I don’t even want to know!)
Wilberforce (he MIGHT have been kidding)
[name]Etienne[/name] (too close to [name]Ephraim[/name])

We can sort of agree on:
[name]Josiah[/name] (maybe too close to [name]Joseph[/name] and I only kind of like it)
[name]Abram[/name] (Also- I only kind of like it)
[name]Alfred[/name] ([name]Alfie[/name] is cute, but I don’t know that I love it)

Anyway- we have lots of time to duke it out and he might end up changing his mind on some of my favorites, but if you could give us any advice, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[name]Hi[/name]! I’m due in [name]June[/name] as well! A happy & healthy 9 months to you!

My favorites of your lists are:
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]August[/name]
I like [name]Michael[/name] and [name]Patrick[/name] but not sure about the combo
[name]Abram[/name]
[name]Alfred[/name]

[name]Isaiah[/name] is another name that came to mind when reading your list.

Boy names are so hard for me! Most boys I know are [name]Noah[/name], [name]William[/name], and [name]Aiden[/name]/[name]Jayden[/name]/[name]Caden[/name]/[name]Brayden[/name].

Constantstar- congratulations and thanks!

I like [name]Isaiah[/name]. I love [name]Isaac[/name], but it’s a little too popular around here. [name]Isaiah[/name] might be a nice alternative. I wonder if you could still use the nickname [name]Ike[/name]?

Keep 'em coming Berries! Work your magic!

[name]Ephraim[/name] is a rare, striking choice. [name]Do[/name] you think you’d like another underused biblical name?

[name]Phineas[/name]
[name]Jeremiah[/name]
[name]Titus[/name]
[name]Lazaro[/name]
[name]Nico[/name]
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Simeon[/name]
Cephas
[name]Matthias[/name]
[name]Jared[/name]
[name]Caedmon[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]

[name]Love[/name] [name]Ephraim[/name] as well!

[name]Emmanuel[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Xavier[/name]

[name]How[/name] about [name]Archer[/name]? I think [name]Archie[/name] sounds really cute with [name]Ephraim[/name].
[name]Harmon[/name]
[name]Malachi[/name]
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Quentin[/name]
[name]Zebedee[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Harlan[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Leland[/name]
[name]Walter[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
Lincoln

[name]Abram[/name] is the stand-out name from all of the ones you listed. It is so strong, handsome, and underused. I think it works wonderfully with a brother named [name]Ephraim[/name]. I’ve only met one [name]Abram[/name] and I was always in love with his name.

So many great names!
So far, I really Like
[name]Phineas[/name] (although I dislike [name]Finn[/name] as a nickname)
[name]Silas[/name] (already vetoed though)
[name]Felix[/name] (vetoed)
[name]Levi[/name] (vetoed)
[name]Archer[/name] (vetoed on the grounds of it being a surname)
[name]Milo[/name] (again, vetoed)
[name]Oscar[/name] (second verse, same as the first)

I like [name]Abram[/name] too. I just don’t [name]LOVE[/name] it. I like [name]Abe[/name] but I hate, hate [name]Bram[/name].

Yeah. My fiance hates everything I like!
The new baby’s name doesn’t need to be overtly biblical. We chose [name]Ephraim[/name] for no other reason than we liked the sound and that it’s kind of old-timey and would age well. In fact he vetoed [name]Ezra[/name] on the grounds that it was too biblical.

I am concerned with potential nicknames too. My family really like to give nicknames. We usually call [name]Ephraim[/name] Eph or [name]Remy[/name] or Ephy (my uncle calls him [name]Effy[/name]-[name]Joe[/name] or E.J.).

Congratulations! I’m due in [name]June[/name] as well! If you like old-timey names, what about:

[name]Albert[/name] nn [name]Al[/name] or [name]Bert[/name] or [name]Bertie[/name]
[name]Walter[/name] (already mentioned but a stand-out in my mind!) nn [name]Walt[/name]
[name]Stanley[/name] nn [name]Stan[/name] or [name]Lee[/name]
[name]Gilbert[/name]: nn [name]Gil[/name] or [name]Bert[/name] or [name]Bertie[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name] nn [name]Toby[/name] or [name]Ty[/name]

My vote is on [name]Tobias[/name]. If you call [name]Ephraim[/name] “[name]Remy[/name]”, I think [name]Ty[/name] would be a cute nickname for his brother! [name]Remy[/name] and [name]Ty[/name] for the win!

I love [name]Albert[/name], but it’s already been vetoed as has [name]Walter[/name], which I also love.
I like [name]Gilbert[/name], but we have a friend with that name. Awkward!
For some reason I really dislike [name]Tobias[/name].

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! I guess I didn’t realize how picky we were until I saw all these names that we’ve (and by we, I mean HE) already rejected.

All right, so [name]Phineas[/name] is on the list. Also, some non-biblical ideas:

[name]Ansel[/name]
[name]Archibald[/name]
[name]Basil[/name]
[name]Bertram[/name]
[name]Bayard[/name]
[name]Cecil[/name]
[name]Clement[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Edmund[/name]
[name]Elgin[/name]
[name]Ferdinand[/name]
[name]Francis[/name]
[name]Horace[/name]
[name]Horatio[/name]
[name]Hubert[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Julius[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Oswald[/name]
[name]Prescott[/name]
[name]Randolph[/name]
[name]Sylvester[/name]
[name]Wallace[/name]

[name]Ah[/name] [name]Phineas[/name] is lovely. It’s got similar sneaky vowel sounds to [name]Ephraim[/name], plus the PH! [name]Finn[/name] seems unavoidable, unless you give him some completely different nickname… [name]Pine[/name]? or something having to do with fins… [name]Fish[/name]? My nicknaming style is a bit silly. [name]How[/name] about:

[name]Alaric[/name]
[name]Rufus[/name]
[name]Zachariah[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name]
[name]Hector[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Julius[/name]

ohhh. I love [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Oswald[/name], [name]Wallace[/name] and [name]Rufus[/name]. Those are going on the list. My list anyway. I like [name]Archibald[/name], [name]Sylvester[/name] and [name]Alaric[/name] too. I never though of [name]Pine[/name] for [name]Phineas[/name], but that might work. Thanks!

Any other suggestions?

[name]Ephraim[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] and…
Bocephus [name]Gryphon[/name]!

[name]Just[/name] kidding. Though I think Bocephus would be amazing for some [name]Hank[/name] [name]Williams[/name] [name]Jr[/name] fan bold enough to pull it off. NN [name]Bo[/name].
[name]Gryphon[/name] or [name]Griffin[/name] could work for you though. Maybe too rhymey… but in middle place?
[name]Orson[/name]
[name]Olaf[/name]
[name]Caspar[/name]
[name]Kenneth[/name]
[name]Theron[/name]
[name]Ulysses[/name]
[name]Otto[/name]
[name]Donald[/name]
[name]Bruno[/name]
[name]Roscoe[/name]
[name]Sinclair[/name]
[name]Abel[/name]
[name]Winslow[/name]
[name]Balthazar[/name]

Hmm. [name]Ephraim[/name] and [name]Griffin[/name]. Is it rhymey? Maybe. I think it’s awesome. Maybe [name]Griffith[/name]? He might actually like that one! Nothing else has floated his boat so far.
I’ll run [name]Orson[/name] by him too. He loves Citizen [name]Kane[/name].

I’m not going to mention Bocephus, even as a joke! He might like it! He’s so weird.

[name]Ephraim[/name] is such a wonderful choice. Here are a few that I think go well:

[name]Addison[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name]
[name]Emery[/name]
[name]Axton[/name]
[name]Jozef[/name]
I also love [name]Abram[/name], but you might also think about [name]Braham[/name] or [name]Bram[/name] which are a little more trendy if [name]Abram[/name] is off the table.

I think it’s a lovely pairing, but they do both have strong F sounds and the closure of M/N at the end. [name]Ephraim[/name] and [name]Griffin[/name] are quite different in feeling though. [name]Orson[/name] might be a more popular choice right now… but it is super masculine and has the big dipper/little bear thing going for it. [name]Griffin[/name] sounds like a rare beast, in the best way. [name]Griffin[/name] is rough but sensitive. I think a lot of the names you like ([name]Ephraim[/name], [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Orson[/name], [name]Phineas[/name], [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Barnaby[/name], [name]Rufus[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Abram[/name]) share the qualities of being refined and old-fashioned, while somehow also managing to sound rough-and-tumble and cool. Your sons could grow up to be scholars or mountaineers. Or both! [name]Griffith[/name] is very handsome too, but then there’s that pesky Birth of a Nation thing.

@Emmabobemma- Thank you SO much. I love the idea of my boy(s) being academic mountaineers! While that wasn’t what we were aiming for, I’m over the moon that it’s what we’ve hit! Personally, I think old-timey, rough and tumble, and cool is everything a boys name should be.
I never thought of D.W. [name]Griffith[/name] and now I can’t un-think it! That movie is definitely not something I’d want people to associate with my child.

@fcooper- I’m kind of fascinated with [name]Axton[/name]. I’ve never heard it before. [name]Ax[/name] makes an intriguing nickname.

Thanks!!

[name]Hi[/name] everyone! I’m going to bump this thread because we still haven’t found a list of names to agree on. So far the only one he’s expressed interest in is [name]Griffon[/name]. I’d like to come up with a few more. Maybe some middle name combinations?
Thanks for your help, Berries!

I think [name]Ephraim[/name] is going on my list. I really love it! I’m not sure I like [name]Griffin[/name] with [name]Ephraim[/name]. On your list I really like [name]Josiah[/name]. PPs have suggested [name]Archibald[/name], [name]Roscoe[/name] and [name]Oswald[/name]. Those are really great choices too!
