Avoid like you said names beginning in J & t like you said and also a & n to avoid similar sounds from repeating, also no names ending in j, t, a, h, or n or containing a sh or strong o or so sounds and you should be alright. I would say with this name combination a 2 syllable name is definitly what you’re looking for . A single syllable would be too abrupt with the flowing Joshua and anything more that 2 wouldn’t sound right. Owen is such a nice name but I see why Dad doesn’t like it with the name

Is really lovely but 2 things on that name 1. Evan Thompson both end in -n not probably a deal breaker but similar and 2. if his daughter is called Eva, Evan is Eva with an -n.

Thank you for all the great input! I agree, and have been trying to avoid names that have those similar sounds. And I definitely decided that 2 syllable names sound the best, anything more is just too much of a mouthful. I really love the name Ryan but there’s personal conflict with that one, also with the names Aaron and Aiden. I think the names that sound best with “Joshua” don’t sound as good with “Thompson” but I know that he will be called first/last more than first/middle so I think I need to find a compromise and concentrate more on finding a first to go with last than middle.
