Help for a frazzled mom-to-be!

[name]Hi[/name] Berries,

Still a few weeks until we find out the gender, but we’re hoping to have a solid list of names either way. I’d love to get some feedback as well as lots more suggestions and name/mn combos. Let’s get started!.. (Thanks in advance!)

Girls:
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Aveline[/name]

Boys:
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]

With the exception of [name]Nora[/name], I love them all. Seriously, I love them all.

Okay, girls! Well, I’ll sidestep [name]Nora[/name] and let someone else talk about her - she’s a bit of a NB favorite, I’ve noticed - because [name]Nora[/name]'s the one fairly commonplace girl’s name that I despise. Moving on! [name]Harper[/name] is fun and perky, surname-y but playful. She’s definitely on trend with surname names and literary names ([name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name], of course), but you might find that she isn’t as fresh and exciting as she might’ve been two or three years ago. I wouldn’t let that hold you back if you love her, though! Others like [name]Harper[/name] might be [name]Bevin[/name], [name]Bryn[/name], [name]Carlin[/name], [name]Ellis[/name], [name]Easton[/name], [name]Hollis[/name], [name]Hayden[/name], [name]Jasper[/name], [name]Lennox[/name], [name]Lennon[/name], [name]Marley[/name], [name]Marlowe[/name], or [name]Piper[/name]. As for [name]Penelope[/name], she’s a bit of a new-age old lady name, huh? Lots of sparkle and pizazz in a neat, sophisticated package. Names like [name]Penelope[/name] might be [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Adele[/name], [name]Briony[/name], [name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Camilla[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Delilah[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Emmeline[/name], [name]Estella[/name], [name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Iris[/name], [name]Juliet[/name], [name]Louisa[/name], [name]Lucille[/name], [name]Mathilda[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Rosaline[/name], [name]Sylvie[/name], [name]Tallulah[/name], [name]Tess[/name], and [name]Viola[/name]. Finally, [name]Aveline[/name] is a quirky and offbeat name with a similar sound and start (think [name]Ava[/name], of course!). It’s honestly one I love and I would be tickled pink if a [name]Berry[/name] used it! It’s got a natural connection to [name]Hazel[/name], which is nice, too. Names like [name]Aveline[/name] might be [name]Bellamy[/name], [name]Cadenza[/name], [name]Carina[/name], [name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Fiona[/name], [name]Freya[/name], [name]Glory[/name], Hosanna, [name]Heidi[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Jessamine[/name], [name]Luna[/name], [name]Lilac[/name], [name]Lavender[/name], [name]Mabel[/name], [name]Noella[/name], [name]Oliva[/name], [name]Olive[/name], [name]Odessa[/name], [name]Pollyanna[/name], [name]Rue[/name], [name]Stella[/name], [name]Sosie[/name], [name]Tamsin[/name], [name]Violetta[/name], and [name]Wren[/name]. You’ve got three different styles, though [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Aveline[/name] are much closer and could be whimsical sisters, so you should go with your gut and see which pulls you in most, okay? Then let’s talk combos…

[name]Milo[/name], [name]Arlo[/name], and [name]Graham[/name]! They are all fabulous. If it was [name]Miles[/name], [name]Arlo[/name], and [name]Graham[/name], I’d say you had the best set of three brothers I’d ever seen! Perfect, right? Each is vintage but modern and fun, quirky but hipster and cool, and sort of dusty chic, if you will. That’s a style I really love, honestly, so I’ll bunch 'em all together. Names like [name]Adlai[/name], [name]Beckett[/name], [name]Brooks[/name], [name]Curtis[/name], [name]Donovan[/name], [name]Dashiell[/name], [name]Edsel[/name], [name]Edmond[/name], [name]Ferris[/name], [name]Francis[/name], [name]Frederick[/name], [name]Flynn[/name], [name]Griffin[/name], [name]Gordon[/name], [name]Grant[/name], [name]Holden[/name], [name]Homer[/name], [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Julian[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Jacoby[/name], [name]Leon[/name], [name]Maxwell[/name], [name]Monroe[/name], [name]Nathaniel[/name], [name]Noel[/name], [name]Oscar[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Orson[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]Peter[/name], [name]Paul[/name], [name]Parker[/name], [name]Russell[/name], [name]Roman[/name], [name]Samson[/name], [name]Silas[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Thaddeus[/name], [name]Tobias[/name], [name]Toby[/name], [name]Theo[/name], [name]Vincent[/name], and [name]Vaughn[/name] might work for you, some more than others. With my new fave set of [name]Miles[/name], [name]Arlo[/name], and [name]Graham[/name]? I’d maybe through in [name]Russell[/name] and [name]Holden[/name] and [name]Jude[/name] and [name]Oscar[/name] and [name]Toby[/name]!

[name]How[/name] long’s the last name (syllable-wise)? Then we can talk combos.

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Nora[/name] - like this one a lot but I prefer it as a nickname for the name [name]Eleanor[/name].
[name]Harper[/name] - doesn’t match your other choices.
[name]Penelope[/name] - love this one!
[name]Aveline[/name] - love this one!

Boys:
[name]Milo[/name] - is a pet’s name to me
[name]Arlo[/name] - same as [name]Milo[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] - love this one!

[name]Graham[/name] [name]Henry[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Richard[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] these help get you started! Congrats on your baby!

Girls:
[name]Nora[/name]- like it (my name is [name]Laura[/name], and I don’t like the way most americans pronounce “lor” it sounds ugly, but I’m a name nerd. I would have the same problem with [name]Nora[/name]- what about [name]Nadia[/name] or [name]Nella[/name]?)
[name]Harper[/name]- I don’t like this name at all. It sounds so harsh to me. It also seems pretty “trendy” not as classic as your other names.
[name]Penelope[/name]- love it, plus it has cute nicknames! (poppy, nelly, pepper…)
[name]Aveline[/name]- another love, though “ava” is popular

And I love all your boy’s names, (no critiques) they’re some of my favorites! Congrats and good luck on choosing a name!

[name]Nora[/name] - I really like it, either as in independent name or nn for [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Eleanora[/name], [name]Honora[/name], [name]Honoria[/name] or [name]Annora[/name]. I know only 1 way to say [name]Nora[/name] but I have heard [name]Laura[/name] pronounced 2 ways- like [name]Lora[/name] or Lahra. (where I live, it’s [name]Lora[/name])

[name]Harper[/name] - not really a fan. It’s not one of the surnames I like as a first name. Does not seem all that feminine to me (but that’s just me). Some people like it as a reference to [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name], but it fits in with the surname as first name trend. I think it’s correct that this name is getting quite popular. [name]Piper[/name] seems like a similar name to me, but I like it a little more.

[name]Penelope[/name] - Nice name, [name]Penny[/name]'s a cute nn. Or [name]Nellie[/name], I guess.

[name]Aveline[/name] - this is beautiful and not that common, though I am not sure if it’s Ay-valine or Av-eline. Is last syllable een or ine?

Boys:
[name]Milo[/name] -
[name]Arlo[/name] - don’t really like either of these names. For some reason, I really only like a few names that end in o - (in English, that is)

[name]Graham[/name] - I like this fairly well.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I totally agree with “[name]Harper[/name]” being a bit too trendy, but I’ve liked it for a few years and always come back to it. I’m happy to move on from the name, as long as I can find a happy replacement. I actually like the name, [name]Nella[/name], which someone suggested, but I worry that it just seems like a nickname and needs something stronger.

I’m still hooked on both [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] (though I would really have to convince my DH, but I think he could come around:)) I also like some of the suggestions…[name]Adeline[/name], [name]Hazel[/name]. I know it’s me, but I’m just having trouble finding a “wow” name that clicks!

As for boys, I definitely see how [name]Milo[/name] and [name]Arlo[/name] can be seen as “dog names”, LOL, but my husband and I [name]LOVE[/name] them both and are pretty sure we will choose one of those if it’s a boy. I’m really liking [name]Graham[/name] or [name]Grant[/name] as a mn, or I would consider [name]Graham[/name] for a future brother to [name]Milo[/name]/[name]Arlo[/name].

Thanks again and I hope you’ll continue to help with girl names

If you like [name]Nella[/name], perhaps you’ll like [name]Nola[/name]?

What about [name]Penelope[/name] nn [name]Nella[/name]? That’s absolutely adorable!

I’m liking [name]Penelope[/name], nn [name]Nella[/name]. Any middle name suggestions? I still love [name]Aveline[/name] …[name]Penelope[/name] [name]Aveline[/name]? Our surname is 2 syllables. We were hoping to find a “B” name as a mn, but are yet to come across any winners. (Thoughts were [name]Blair[/name], [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Bay[/name]…)

Thanks again!

I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]! [name]Penelope[/name] [name]Aveline[/name] is pretty too, but what if you have another girl? I would save [name]Aveline[/name] for her. [name]Penelope[/name] and [name]Aveline[/name] would make a gorgeous sibset!

Other names that start with B:

[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Blanche[/name]

Girls:
[name]Nora[/name]- [name]Love[/name]. Classic, simple, sweet, and beautiful. You really can’t go wrong with it.

[name]Harper[/name]- This name frustrates me. I feel like a year and a half ago, EVERYONE on nameberry loved this name. Now that it’s closer to the top 100, everyone thinks it’s too trendy. But if you love it and keep coming back to it, you don’t want to regret not using it later. I think your first (and therefore eldest) child would be the perfect time to use it. [name]Harper[/name] has yet to crack the top 100 (and is given to less than 2 in 1000 baby girls), so a [name]Harper[/name] born now would almost be like a teenaged [name]Isabella[/name] today: young enough that it doesn’t seem too exotic or foreign, but old enough to not be one of a crowd.

[name]Penelope[/name]- Not my taste at all. Everyone I know (including myself) seems to think this name is a bit of a joke- just like [name]Brunhilda[/name]. Nameberry is the only place I’ve heard it having massive popularity. I have, however, seen numerous baby Penelopes on the same television show- perhaps its popularity is mostly among one economic or geographical group (or perhaps the parents on that show were also nameberries).

[name]Aveline[/name]- I love it! Absolutely beautiful, familiar but very infrequently used.

Boys:
[name]Milo[/name]- I really, really like it.

[name]Arlo[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] it. Hands down, my favorite on your list.

[name]Graham[/name]- I don’t know why, but there’s just something I don’t like about this name. I’ve known a few very pleasant Grahams, but I just can’t like the name, for some reason. I feel like it sounds pretentious or something. But that really is just something weird about me, and objectively, it’s a great name- clearly masculine, easy to say and spell, and uncommon but not strange.

Harper- This name frustrates me. Harper has yet to crack the top 100 (and is given to less than 2 in 1000 baby girls), so a Harper born now would almost be like a teenaged Isabella today: young enough that it doesn’t seem too exotic or foreign, but old enough to not be one of a crowd.

Your post made me smile because I’ve come to the same rationality. I do love it, but if I meet another [name]Isabella[/name]…Still, thanks for your input!

I also appreciate your take on [name]Penelope[/name]. I can see how it may sound silly to some people (including my parents!), it’s just always appealed to me.

[name]Arlo[/name] is my #1 name, too. We’d most definitely go with that if we knew we were having a boy!
