Help honoring Sharon

Me and my husband are trying to think of some middle name options for our baby, but we are stuck!

Our son’s mn is the same as my husband, his father, and his grandfather.
My first daughter has the same middle name as me, my mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
And our second daugther’s mn is also named after my husbands family, on his moms side.

Since we’ve already named names from both his sides of the family and my moms side, we want to name one of our twins after my fathers side. I am really close to my grandma and would like to name it after her, but I don’t really want to use her name! Her name is [name]Sharon[/name], and we don’t think that it sounds very cute or modern.

Me and my husband were trying to come up with a cute, more current name that comes from [name]Sharon[/name], but we’re not having any luck! He thought of Norahs because that is [name]Sharon[/name] backwards, but having the “s” on the end makes it kind of wierd. Otherwise I’d probably use [name]Norah[/name]. He also thought of Haron, but we’re not sure if we like that very well…

Any suggestions? x

I like the idea of [name]Norah[/name], or [name]Noah[/name] for a boy. It doesn’t have to be exact to honor, I think it’s better when it’s more subtle.

Other ideas:
[name]Shannon[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] (another Bible place name)
Sherine
[name]Aaron[/name] for a boy
[name]Erin[/name] on a girl
[name]Harley[/name] for either
Sharmaine
[name]Ronan[/name] for a boy
[name]Ronda[/name]

[name]Sharrin[/name] or Sheeran?

I think [name]Norah[/name] is a lovely name! Maybe you could do 2 middle names, the first one being [name]Norah[/name] and the second beginning with S so that you include the S somewhere?

[name]How[/name] about:
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Susanna[/name]/[name]Susanne[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Scarlet[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Savannah[/name]
[name]Norah[/name] [name]Stephanie[/name]

Or you could just use the ‘Sh’ sound at the beginning of ‘[name]Sharon[/name]’.
[name]How[/name] about:
[name]Shauna[/name]
[name]Shayla[/name]
[name]Sheryl[/name]
[name]Shona[/name]

Best of luck!

Another idea!

You could use the ‘ron’ in [name]Sharon[/name], here’s some suggestions:
[name]Rona[/name]
[name]Ronalda[/name]
[name]Ronia[/name]
[name]Ronni[/name]

I like the idea of [name]Norah[/name] with an S middle name. [name]Sharon[/name] is Hebrew for “a plain” and the phrase “rose of sharon” refers to several plants today and several hypothesized plants in the bible. So [name]Norah[/name] [name]Rose[/name] would allude to that and also get an S in there (although not in the first position). The Biblical flower “rose of [name]Sharon[/name]” is also sometimes proposed to mean the same flower as discussed in “lily of the valley”, so the idea of “lily” gets you access to [name]Lily[/name] and all the [name]Susan[/name] families. [name]Susannah[/name] is probably the most currently fashionable and like [name]Sharon[/name] it starts with S. [name]Norah[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] is pretty nice, I know some may not like the matching endings but I think it works pretty well. I also really like [name]Norah[/name] [name]Lily[/name] or [name]Lily[/name] [name]Norah[/name]. Finally, [name]Shoshana[/name] is a beautiful Hebrew name that means “lily” (the connection to [name]Susannah[/name] is fairly clear) in ancient Hebrew but today means “rose”, so that ties to both hypothesized meanings for “rose of [name]Sharon[/name]” very nicely. It also starts with Sh like [name]Sharon[/name]. [name]Norah[/name] [name]Shoshana[/name] or [name]Shoshana[/name] [name]Norah[/name] etc could be very nice. There have been several threads on here that wonder about whether [name]Shoshana[/name] works on a baby who is not Jewish, and the general consensus has been positive although it is somewhat of a bold choice to be sure.

A totally different direction: the meaning of [name]Blair[/name] is “dweller on a plain”

If you expand the meaning of plain to also refer to fields, [name]Nira[/name] is a Hebrew name that means “plowed, furrowed field”: kind of makes [name]Norah[/name] doubly meaningful.

Good luck!

I actually really like the name [name]Sharon[/name]. It just has a nice sound to it, very refreshing really. I too think of the Biblical line “rose of [name]Sharon[/name].” Before her tragic death actress [name]Sharon[/name] [name]Tate[/name] was a lovely bearer of the name. That being said, I think all of jesba’s suggestions are terrific. And kudos to your husband for noticing that [name]Sharon[/name] is [name]Norah/name backwards - I’d never spotted that before.

Some of these are a bit of a stretch but I’ve grouped them according to the part of the name I’ve got it from.

[name]Sharona[/name]
[name]Seren[/name]/a
[name]Shannon[/name]
[name]Karen[/name] (rhymes)

[name]Charlotte[/name] ([name]Shar[/name] sound is the same in some accents)
[name]Sherrie[/name]/[name]Cherie[/name]

[name]Harley[/name]
[name]Harper[/name]

[name]Rona[/name]/[name]Rhona[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name]
[name]Erin[/name] ([name]Aron[/name]/[name]Aaron[/name] and [name]Erin[/name] are said the same in some accents)

I do think the [name]Norah/name being [name]Sharon[/name] backwards would be a great touch, props to your husband for spotting that. Teaming it with an S middle name - [name]Norah[/name] [name]Sophie[/name], [name]Norah[/name] [name]Sabrina[/name] etc - would be a brilliant way to honour her.

@jesba had some genius suggestions. There are layers and layers of meaning in the names she proposed. I would think about them carefully.

[name]Carin[/name] rhymes and is the more modern spelling of [name]Karen[/name].

Use your grandmother’s maiden name as your daughter’s middle name. Here in the South, it’s been a go-to way to honor relatives for generations.

Nms but [name]Sheridan[/name] is more modern.

[name]Cher[/name] is cute, but very connected to the singer & the movie Clueless, but I would love ro meet someone who used it!

I think [name]Charlotte[/name] might be a stretch but could work.

I think [name]Norah[/name] with an S middle name would be adorable  I also like [name]Sharona[/name].

Does Grandma [name]Sharon[/name] have a usable middle name or surname you could use instead?

xx

I love the idea of [name]Norah[/name] [name]Rose[/name].

What’s [name]Sharon[/name]'s middle name? Does that give you something to work with?
