I wouldn’t bother changing the spelling to get the lyn pronunciation since it’s a middle name. It’s prettier written out as [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] imo, rather than [name_f]Evangelyn[/name_f].
What about [name_u]Vega[/name_u]? It has the V & E from [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and G & A from [name_f]Angela[/name_f].
I adore [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]! I like [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] as well, but actually prefer [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] as a first name because I think it’s so lovely I think it’s elegant, poised, and beautiful but also is fun and fresh. I think it is the perfect combination of your mothers’ names. I much prefer the “leen” pronunciation and actually have only ever heard it pronounced this way. As I said, I think [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is too pretty to hide in the middle, but if you are set on [name_f]Nadia[/name_f], [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is really lovely!
Thank you, I’m loving [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] more and more. My husband said he wouldn’t put up a fight over the lyn/leen thing since it’s her middle name anyway.
Its pronounced Evange LEEN
Thank you, Meyera4 A lot of my first name choices got cut because my husband is not a “cutesy nickname” person (his words lol) and some names lend themselves to nicknames so easily even if we’re not the ones to start it and I see that with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] ([name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Vangie[/name_f], [name_f]Lina[/name_f], etc.) It is very beautiful though. BTW, I love your little one’s name.
Thank you! I’m considering them all but of all the variations, I’m really into the original, [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
and I love the names in your signature.
I think [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is gorgeous. It sounds as though your husband is coming around to the idea of the LEEN pronunciation! That’s cool. Honestly, when I read the title of your post “[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]” was the first name on my mind. It is the most intuitive way to honor both your mom and his. Plus it’s beautiful paired with [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]. I really think you found a winner!
When I saw the subject line of your post, [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] came to mind right away. I’ve always heard it pronounced with a “leen” ending by English-speakers and more of a “lin” ending by [name_m]French[/name_m]-speakers. I’d stick with the traditional spelling - I’ve seen it spelled this way so much that the “-lyn” spelling looks really odd to me.
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f] is a gorgeous name! [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is a little bit of a mouthful, but it works absolutely fine and I think this is a case where it makes SO much sense to use [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] that that supersedes whether it flows perfectly aesthetically.
Thank you so much, Opelle:) He really is coming around… And I never imagined I’d love it because honestly, it was just the only thing I could think of to honor both grandmas but the more I say it and see it written/typed the more I love it. You have all been so helpful!!
Thank you! It is a mouthful for sure
I thought of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] straightaway, too! I say eh-[name_u]VAN[/name_u]-jeh-leen, sometimes ee-[name_u]VAN[/name_u]-jeh-leen (but definitely the leen ending!). I think [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is absolutely stunning, and the perfect way to honor both grandmas! Good luck!
Well, if you are going to name your son after his father, why don’t you name your daughter after you?
I immediately thought of [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (using the leen pronunciation) [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is beautiful really elegant and would honour both your mother and his. [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is so classy it’s gorgeous. I also think [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] works too. But would prefer [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] as I think the flow is better furthermore with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] you get so many adorable nicknames such as [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_u]Evan[/name_u], [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_u]Angie[/name_u] etc.
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is so lovely - how lucky that your honour name sounds so beautiful, as well as being doubly meaningful. My family names are ‘clunky’, to say the least!
I think [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is a lovely name and a brilliant way to honor both grandmothers. I think you can choose to pronounce it either way, so I would go with the one you like.
I think [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (leen) is really pretty! What is your mother’s (and your husband’s mother’s) middle name? Maybe you could use that instead of the first name?
Another idea would be to choose a name that sort of reflects your mother’s personality. A user on nameberry gave her daughter the nickname [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], because her Mom loves to garden and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]'s are her favourite flower! So you can get creative with honour names.
My names are so dated and not in a good or classic way lol! And I’m not too keen on creating variations. (Probably because I’m terrible at it😩)
I love [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], and I prefer/have only heard it leen, but as a middle I think you could use the lyn pronunciation just fine!
My mom’s middle is [name_f]Diana[/name_f], his mom’s is [name_f]Cristina[/name_f]. We didn’t like anything we got from those names but I love hearing all these creative ways to honor people. Clearly, I’m not much of a “name person” I’m so happy I logged on😀 You’re all so helpful!
