I’m 16 weeks and impatiently waiting for my anatomy scan in a few weeks. A boy’s name is already picked and done! Our girl’s name is halfway there. We’ve both agreed on [name_f]Elara[/name_f] (EE-LAHR-[name_m]AH[/name_m]). The last name will be [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]. I haven’t been able to find a name that fits well. Nothing is really appealing to me.
This is my tentative list of middle names so far
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - I feel like it might be dated and trendy
[name_f]Isla[/name_f]
[name_u]Blair[/name_u]
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f] - My personal favorite but SO hates it
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - Not sure about the flow with [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]
[name_f]Mattea[/name_f] - Has the same ah/uh ending as FN
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f] - dunno about the flow
[name_f]Tilly[/name_f] - Too simple, too nickname-y??
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u] - Is it too trendy?
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - Not sure about the double E’s
SO only likes [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_u]Blair[/name_u], and [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] from my list and is 50/50 on [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
They’re obviously all completely different style names, so I’m not looking for something specific; just something that flows well. All suggestions/combos are welcome, and feel free to let me know what you like or don’t like and why!
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - I think [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] is actually sweet but I could see how you might think it was dated. I like it though.
[name_f]Isla[/name_f] - Something about the flow of [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] is off… this one’s a no for me.
[name_u]Blair[/name_u] - [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u] seems like a lot of R for some reason, would you go for [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_u]Blaise[/name_u] or [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_u]Blake[/name_u] instead?
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f] - I think this is lovely!
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] repeats that -AR syllable pretty obviously since that’s where the emphasis is on both. I’m not a fan.
[name_f]Mattea[/name_f] - It does have the same ending, but I don’t think it’s terrible.
[name_f]Araminta[/name_f] - I really like this name, but not so much with [name_f]Elara[/name_f]
[name_f]Tilly[/name_f] - This is actually kind of cute in the middle.
[name_u]Bailey[/name_u] - I actually love [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_u]Bailey[/name_u]! It’s popular right now but in the middle I don’t think that matters.
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] - Too many repeated sounds [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
From your current options I really like [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Giselle[/name_f], [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Tilly[/name_f], and [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]. Good luck!
I adore [name_f]Elara[/name_f]! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see someone’s planning to use it. My favourite from your list is [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Giselle[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] ans [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f].
[name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]
[name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Mathilde[/name_f] - [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] is cute, but if you’re worried about it being too nickname-y, this one can be a nice alternative, imo.
[name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]
[name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
I’d eliminate [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] and [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] (much as it pains me since I love [name_f]Araminta[/name_f]!) because they repeat the prominent “ar” sound in [name_f]Elara[/name_f]. [name_u]Blair[/name_u] feels similar, though I know the sound isn’t the same - [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u] feels too “L” and “R”-heavy, and [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Isla[/name_f] sounds too “L” and “A”-heavy. I’d also nix [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] if your SO hates it (which also pains me a little, because [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] sounds great to me).
I don’t think of [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] as dated or trendy, for what it’s worth, and I think [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] works pretty well.
I do think of [name_u]Bailey[/name_u] as both dated and trendy, though if it has family significance I wouldn’t worry about it.
I agree that [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] could feel nicknamey, but [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] is also a surname in its own right, so people might be more inclined to assume it’s an honour name.
As to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], if it was only the "[name_f]El[/name_f]"s that they had in common I wouldn’t worry about it, but since they share a lot of other sounds (the L and R and both have three syllables), [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] doesn’t sound ideal to me.
I don’t mind the repeating endings of [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f], though, and I like that they have different sounds. [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f] [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]?
I think I’d vote for [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] or [name_f]Elara[/name_f] [name_f]Mattea[/name_f].
