I’m not expecting or anything, but I am currently trying to write a character based off of my personal experiences in life. She would be of Bangladeshi descent (2nd generation immigrant) and would be raised as a Muslim girl in America.
I am thinking of the name [name_f]Sahar[/name_f], but I’m not sure if that’s exactly a Bangladeshi name. I’m not sure of a middle name to choose, either. It is imperative that her surname begins with an A for a key detail in the story, but I don’t know many Bangladeshi surnames that begin with A to choose from.
[name_f]Sahar[/name_f] is beautiful! I remember there was a berry whose daughter had this as a middle name. I also think of Nour, [name_f]Salma[/name_f], [name_f]Mariam[/name_f]/[name_f]Maryam[/name_f] as popular and very pretty Muslim names. There’s also [name_f]Aisha[/name_f] and [name_f]Samira[/name_f], which are a bit more exotic, but in a very beautiful way.
You’re right, apparently there are very few Bengali surnames starting with A. I did some digging and I found this one for you: Akhand (also spelled Akand)
That’s pretty much all I could find in terms of a surname beginning with A.
As for [name_f]Sahar[/name_f], I researched that a bit for you as well. It’s an Islamic name most commonly used in Pakistan and Afganistan, however, it is also fairly commonly used by speakers of Urdu language which is spoken predominantly in Pakistan and into [name_f]India[/name_f] so it’s not unthinkable that a Bengali girl might end up with the name [name_f]Sahar[/name_f].
I’ve chosen the first name [name_f]Sahar[/name_f] (I guess it’ll be a bit out of place since it’s more of a Pakistani/Hindi name than Bangladeshi, but since she is being raised in [name_u]America[/name_u] it could seem like the fault of her parents) and the surname [name_u]Ali[/name_u] (I know this raises the possibility of a few jokes regarding [name_m]Muhammad[/name_m] [name_u]Ali[/name_u] and Mahershala [name_u]Ali[/name_u], but oh well).
I considered [name_f]Kali[/name_f] for a middle name, but then I found out the meaning of the name and decided that it probably wasn’t a very good idea. Now I’m thinking that maybe her middle name could be [name_f]Lina[/name_f]? I’m not very well-versed in Bangladeshi middle names and how they’re chosen + the middle name [name_f]Lina[/name_f] is a bit similar to the surname [name_u]Ali[/name_u].
