Like:
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]–I like nickname [name_f]Edie[/name_f]. [name_f]Edith[/name_f] is a little stiff sounding for a little girl but I think it could work.
[name_f]Rayna[/name_f]/[name_f]Raina[/name_f]/[name_f]Reina[/name_f]–Pretty. Prefer [name_f]Reina[/name_f] spelling.
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]–like this. Downside is similarity to popular [name_f]Ava[/name_f]/[name_f]Eva[/name_f]/[name_f]Ivy[/name_f].
Neutral:
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]–not my favorite in terms of sound but nothing wrong with it.
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]–sounds a little hippie but not bad
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]–maybe a bit cutesy for an adult
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t like:
[name_f]Edlyn[/name_f]–pretty but sounds made up. Maybe [name_f]Adelyn[/name_f] instead?
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]–sounds modern with a tinge of [name_m]Lord[/name_m] of the Rings. Not my style but it’s OK.
Evolet (ev-oh-let)–too close to [name_f]Violet[/name_f], sounds made up
[name_f]Lilium[/name_f]–looks like a typo of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]–I like this for boys
[name_f]Edlyn[/name_f] - I personally don’t like it; has a made up feel
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] - I prefer this over [name_f]Edlyn[/name_f], but it’s not my favourite
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] - I like it!
[name_f]Rayna[/name_f]/[name_f]Raina[/name_f]/[name_f]Reina[/name_f] - love [name_f]Reina[/name_f]!
[name_f]Raine[/name_f] - I like this as a middle name
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] - reminds me of [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] which I love, so it works, but I prefer [name_f]Arwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u]
Evolet (ev-oh-let) - Not a fan, is either go with [name_f]Violet[/name_f] or [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] instead
[name_f]Lilium[/name_f] - my first thought was “lithium” so I’d personally go with [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] as an alternative
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m] - love for a boy
[name_f]Ida[/name_f] - I like this one. Feels dated but that’s not necessarily a bad thing since that’s on trend right now
Names I Like:
Evolet-Normally I’m totally not a fan of mash up names but you’ve really got me with this one. The sounds are so pretty and gentle. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it.
[name_f]Rayna[/name_f]/[name_f]Raina[/name_f]/[name_f]Reina[/name_f]-[name_f]Rayna[/name_f] looks a bit clunky but [name_f]Reina[/name_f] is gorgeous.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]-One of my all time favourite vintage names. It’s getting quite popular but for good reason.
Names I [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t Mind:
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]-Not my personal style but bang on trend with the retro vibes and a name I can appreciate.
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]-I like it but it feels very masculine to me.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]-Pretty, just not my style.
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]-I kind of like this, kind of don’t. I don’t love the spelling but the sound is pretty and the nature link is nice.
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]-Not my sort of name but unusual flower names are very trendy right now.
Names I [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t Like:
[name_f]Lilium[/name_f]-[name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] are great, [name_f]Lilium[/name_f] is not.
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]-This name has always sounded quite abrupt and harsh to me, not a fan.
[name_f]Edlyn[/name_f]-This just sounds made up and not nice to me. I like the nickname [name_f]Edie[/name_f], but I would use [name_f]Edith[/name_f] to achieve it over [name_f]Edlyn[/name_f] anyday.
[name_u]Love[/name_u]:
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] – Has been growing on me a lot lately. It’s adorable!
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] – [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]!
[name_f]Rayna[/name_f]/[name_f]Raina[/name_f]/[name_f]Reina[/name_f] – I love the sound of this name, but (like you apparently) I can’t pick a spelling. I think I like [name_f]Reina[/name_f] the best, but I don’t know.
Okay:
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] – I have a bad association with this name, so it’s hard to get past that. I do think I could like it otherwise, especially on a girl (it was a man I knew once long ago).
Evolet (ev-oh-let) – It’s different, but it has a lot of appeal
[name_f]Ida[/name_f] – I have some good associations with this name. It’s cute.
Not so much:
[name_f]Edlyn[/name_f] – I don’t like it and I’m not sure why. I want to think about this name, because it is striking me somehow.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] – I actually do like this name when given a short e, but I don’t like the typical [name_f]Edith[/name_f] pen
[name_f]Raine[/name_f] – I don’t care for it, especially since you like the lovely [name_f]Reina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilium[/name_f] – Reminds me of lithium
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m] – On a sweet little girl? No
[name_f]Edlyn[/name_f]: OK, seems a bit made up.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]: Despite growing Downton-driven popularity, this name to me is way too heavy and plodding. In category of [name_f]Maude[/name_f].
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]: Pretty.
[name_f]Rayna[/name_f]/[name_f]Raina[/name_f]/[name_f]Reina[/name_f]: A little nasal and whiney sounding, somehow, if said like “[name_f]Ree[/name_f]-na.”
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]: Very modern sounding. [name_f]Do[/name_f] not like… Doesn’t seem to fit list.
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]: Gorgeous. Calls to mind [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Arden[/name_u], cool meaning, real roots.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]: A bit cutesy.
Evolet (ev-oh-let): Pretty!
[name_f]Lilium[/name_f]: I’m sorry, but awful to my ear. Sounds like a drug name.
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]: Pretty. I think “Better Than [name_m]Ezra[/name_m],” but not a bad association.
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]: Strikes me as a little incomplete. But nice.
For those who think Evolet is out there, consider this fact: 900 girls in the US have been named Evolet since 2008. 911 have been named [name_f]Ida[/name_f], for comparison. There have been many more girls named Evolet than [name_f]Lilium[/name_f], [name_f]Raine[/name_f], or [name_f]Edlyn[/name_f] in that time period.
All your choices at a desirable level of use, in my opinion. I especially like [name_u]Arden[/name_u] because it reminds me of the word “ardent”. I like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] because it sounds and looks pretty and has many nickname options. [name_f]Lilium[/name_f] is an interesting twist, I like Evolet, [name_f]Raine[/name_f] is kind of neat and nature-y as well. The others are nms but really only as a matter of personal taste not because there’s anything seriously wrong with them.
Sometimes NB fails to add a name to the database and I just can’t make sense of it. Evolet is one of those cases. Maybe they’ll do what they did when they added Avonlea and declare it the winner of the annual “invented names contest” which was hilarious in that case because because Avonlea had been on the SSA list for 24 years at that point…it only met their definition of “invented” because they had up to that point refused to add it to their own database.
Evolet doesn’t have a long history of use and jumped onto the scene after it was used in a movie. However, [name_f]Bloodrayne[/name_f] hasn’t ever made the SSA list but has been in the NB database for a long time. Evolet probably doesn’t generate the amount of curiosity and therefore clicks and therefore ad revenue that [name_f]Bloodrayne[/name_f] does, I suppose. OK rant over.
[name_u]Love[/name_u]:
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]- feels flowery and exotic
[name_f]Rayna[/name_f]/[name_f]Raina[/name_f]/[name_f]Reina[/name_f]- obviously I like this one. I would use [name_f]Raina[/name_f] or [name_f]Reina[/name_f]. I’m using [name_f]Rayna[/name_f] because its from my mom, [name_u]Ray[/name_u].
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]- I love this one.
Like:
[name_f]Edlyn[/name_f]- not bad.
[name_f]Raine[/name_f]- not bad.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]- I like it.
Evolet (ev-oh-let)- I like it.
[name_f]Lilium[/name_f]- I didn’t expect to, but I do like this one.
[name_f]Ida[/name_f]- simple and cute.
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t Like:
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]- not sure I like this one on a girl.
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]- I don’t really like this on a girl.
[name_f]Edlyn[/name_f] - [name_m]Just[/name_m] don’t like the look of it, sorry.
[name_f]Edith[/name_f] - YES. [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name so much.
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] - A nice feminine but not too frilly name. Can imagine it on a girl/woman of any age too.
[name_f]Raina[/name_f] - I’d pick this spelling and prefer [name_f]Raina[/name_f] to [name_f]Raine[/name_f], but both are good.
[name_u]Arden[/name_u] - Hmmm. I dunno, it’s a bit plain, and no nickname potential.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - Yeah I like this, but would dislike the nn ‘[name_u]Penny[/name_u]’.
Evolet - Sounds like a brand of sanitary product tbh.
[name_f]Lilium[/name_f] - too much like ‘Litium’ as in lithium batteries.
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m] - [name_m]Feel[/name_m] this is getting really popular for boys, which puts me off.
[name_f]Ida[/name_f] - Yeah, and [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
