Renata: not a fan of the sound, and seems maybe a little dated. I picture this on a middle-aged woman, similar to [name_f]Renee[/name_f].
Dorothy: this has always been hard for me to picture on a child. It’s the quintessential old lady name to me, and the sound isn’t personally appealing to me either.
My favorites on your list are [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]!
Juniper – I personally feel like this one is a little cutesy and won’t age super well. Plus, it’s tough to get past the “nipper” sound.
Nola – This does not have an appealing sound to me. It sounds like a rodent, like mole and vole, for some reason.
2 I’d keep:
Dorothy – I love seeing [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] get some love! It’s kind of an underrated classic, and I feel like it’s about time the name came back into style! [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is vintage, smart, and carries a sense of grace and authenticity that wears well on any age.
Anneliese – This is a name I’ve been crushing on a lot lately. [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] is so elegant and beautiful! It’s a pretty underrated name, one that deserves more use, imo.
Other unexpected picks I would definitely keep: [name_f]Annika[/name_f], [name_u]Eden[/name_u], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f].
Drop: [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Nola[/name_f]!
I’ve never really liked [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] as it just sounds like it’s a body part and with [name_f]Nola[/name_f], I think of [name_u]New[/name_u] Orleans!
Keep: [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]!
I think both of these names are just absolutely gorgeous!!
Drop
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] and [name_f]Nadia[/name_f].
Both I find just unappealing names, they are not very pretty sounding.
Name combos I like. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
I love
ivy
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
I’d get rid of [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f]. They are so harsh sounding and very dated in my opinion.
I LOVE [name_f]Renata[/name_f] but unless you’re saying this in a Spanish accent I’d probably drop it just because it’s not as appealing if you are not. And [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] is my other favourite, so underrated
Harriet - I am just really not a fan of this, it sounds too harsh for my taste
Renata - This one just doesn’t sound like a little girls name, I agree with @tori101 it sounds more like the name of a car brand
Keep:
Eden - [name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Eden[/name_u], it is just such a classic name that I can imagine on a little girl and a grown woman
Dorothy - I almost considered this for my drop suggestion because it reminded me straight away of wizard of oz, but repeating it in my head a couple times to see if I would drop it I actually ended up really liking it. I had never thought of it before but as a name alone it sounds really sweet and I’ve always liked the nickname [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] for a little girl.
Drop:
[name_f]Daniella[/name_f] - Drop because you can do better, and nobody is ever going to say the full ‘[name_f]Daniella[/name_f]’ anyway. This name, when combined with the probably nickname [name_u]Dani[/name_u], is just underwhelming to me. It’s also very 80s-90s, whereas your others are more classic and a bit more uncommon.
[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] - Drop because there are nicer flower names in your list, and it reminds me of [name_m]Iggy[/name_m] [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_u]Juniper[/name_u] are all more wearable and have more natural nickname options.
Keep:
[name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] - Keep this because it’s just gorgeous, and it has lots of nickname options and a really lovely meaning.
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] - Keep this because it’s familiar but refreshing, spunky but not too ‘hipster.’
Amazing list! I would drop [name_f]Daniella[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f]. They don’t seem to carry the same vintage charm as the rest of your list.
My favorites are [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Alice[/name_f]!
Drop [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f]. I don’t like them. Change [name_f]Willa[/name_f] to Willena. I am crushing on Willena at the moment.
Drop [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Renata[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Willa[/name_f] but maybe save it as a nickname for [name_u]Willow[/name_u]? I also think [name_f]Renata[/name_f] is a bit masculine and tough for me.
Please Keep [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]! Loads of gorgeous nickname options avaliable and is a beautiful name that is not too popular compared with [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabella[/name_f]. Also Keep [name_u]Eden[/name_u] as i love the name and you can shorten it too [name_f]Edie[/name_f] which is one of my favourite names ever!
Drop [name_f]Nadia[/name_f] and [name_f]Renata[/name_f]. Both feel dated and not as cohesive with the rest of your list.
Keep [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]. Both are classic and easily recognizable without being extremely overused. They also both have just a touch of sass which a lot of classic names are missing in my opinion.
Just to be contrary, in my opinion you should definitely keep Daniella and Renata- outdated just means ready to be made fresh again! They are both gorgeous and have sounds that are a little different from the current trends while still being flowy and vowel-y enough not to be totally off trend either. Use them!
I would drop Eden (too trendy/modern (for me)), Harriet (Henrietta is prettier), and Nola (I like Nadia more, Nola is just a tad frumpier)
Vivian - simply because [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Viviana[/name_f] are much prettier. Also love that with [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] you can use [name_f]Vienna[/name_f] as a nn
Fiona - feels outdated and Shrek
Love - [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
This is so hard because I love almost all of these!! My two least favorites are
Nola- This is greatly associated with New Orleans, Louisiana for me. Unless you absolutely love the city, i’d drop it
Aurelia- It kind of sounds like oral when I say it, it also just sounds sort of clunky
You should definitely keep:
Nadia -it’s so beautiful and under used
Harriet -it’s so cute and vintage sounding and it has a great namesake
Reading through this, one (wo) man’s trash is truly another man’s treasure! I don’t think you’ll get a consensus in what to drop unless you say what you personally like and care about in a name and we can give opinions on whether we think a name works for YOU. Naming is so context dependent, it’s almost pointless to talk about what is a “good” name or not. This is a large part of why I don’t seriously consider name lists and such anymore- I’m not married or having an actual baby anytime soon, so I don’t have a context to use to consider one name above another. Finding unique and pretty names is always fun of course, but it’s a completely different thing than actually naming someone.
Nadia feels a bit dated. I prefer [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] over [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] are my favorites.
