Help Me Like My List Again

Hey Berries!

Sorry, but this is going to be a long post.

When I woke up today I was having a crisis: I didn’t like half the names on my list anymore! Now I’m not expecting, nor will I be anytime soon, but knowing I’ve had a perfect list has always been a pride of mine. Now with it crumbling I need help/reassurance for my names.

So let’s start off with boy names.

I am defiantly I’m less “picky” surrounding boy names so my list is a lot longer, and in a better state then my girls list. As this is the ace, it does have 2 different style categories. I’d love to hear your thoughts on if the two lists are compatible and what names you may add, or remove from my lists. [name_m]Frankly[/name_m] any thought would be greatly appreciated!

“Trendy, Country Names”

[name_m]Barrett[/name_m] (Not sure how I feel about nickname bear)

[name_m]Sawyer[/name_m]

[name_m]Ryker[/name_m]

[name_m]Gavin[/name_m]

[name_f]Tatum[/name_f] (a little to unisex for my taste)

[name_m]Carter[/name_m]

[name_m]Connor[/name_m] (VERY popular)

[name_m]Cason[/name_m] (love the sound but looks off to me)

“Old man/Classic names”

[name_m]Bram[/name_m] (LOVE this name but would like a long form and Abraham’s not my favourite)

[name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] (:heart_eyes::heart_eyes:)

[name_m]Bryce[/name_m]

[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] (favourite, but close relative with name)

[name_m]Johnny[/name_m]

[name_m]Lukas[/name_m]

[name_m]William[/name_m]

[name_m]Christian[/name_m] or [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]

[name_m]Joseph[/name_m]

[name_m]Brady[/name_m]

Another name I’ve grown found of recently is [name_m]Crosby[/name_m], which I think is just lovely. The issue with this name is that hockey is such a big part of my life/family, so using the name would be seen as naming a son after [name_m]Sidney[/name_m] [name_m]Crosby[/name_m]. Though most hockey fans would agree that [name_m]Crosby[/name_m] is a pretty good namesake I’d like to hear your thoughts.

Also I am aware of the many other famous hockey players with names on my list (eg. [name_m]Brady[/name_m], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], Johnny), but as they are far more common I don’t find it an issue (maybe slightly with Connor).

Now for the hard part.

Girls names.

So right now my list is very short so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]- love [name_f]Christmas[/name_f], and winter (hockey season), timeless, ageless

[name_f]Winnifred[/name_f]- I’ve loved this name since I was 8, the nickname [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is a

big seller too, but sometime about it is not sitting quite right anymore

[name_f]Marina[/name_f]- [name_f]Love[/name_f] Russian girl names, ageless, perfect level of familiarity, and I think [name_f]Nina[/name_f] works as a nn and I love that name

[name_f]Maria[/name_f]- so classic, effortlessly beautiful

[name_f]Lois[/name_f]- like it, but can’t imagine it on my daughter

[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]- so pretty but can’t get behind [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]

[name_f]Irena[/name_f]- another childhood favourite

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]

Any names you’d add, other suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks Berries!

The two halves of your boy list do feel a bit different but there are enough names that cross over that they don’t feel like they belong to two different people.

[name_m]Barrett[/name_m]: [name_m]Bear[/name_m] probably isn’t inevitable, especially if you have another nickname you can direct people to. [name_f]Brett[/name_f] or [name_m]Rhett[/name_m]?

[name_m]Carter[/name_m]: I love [name_m]Carter[/name_m]! Fits into a few different vibes so it’s versatile and suits a lot of different personalities. Nice sound, easy to say/spell, the one I knew in school was a great dude, all around fantastic pick!

[name_m]Bram[/name_m]: [name_m]Abram[/name_m] or [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]?

[name_m]Johnny[/name_m]: another great name and this one definitely bridges your two lists together, it for sure fits into both classic and cowboy categories.

[name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]: both very nice, I love the elegant classic feel.

I like all of your girls names!

[name_f]Winnifred[/name_f]: it might just be that the name has been on your list so long that its feeling a bit meh for you at the moment, I have that happen sometimes. Does the [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] spelling appeal? I personally prefer the more streamlined look and maybe a small tweak like that would make it feel fresher again.

[name_f]Marina[/name_f]: I LOVE [name_f]Marina[/name_f], definitely my favorite on your list. So gorgeous and underused.

[name_f]Lois[/name_f]: I totally get this, most of my old lists are gorgeous but just don’t suit me as a person and by extension don’t feel right for my future kids. Maybe the right middle name combo could make the name feel more you?

[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]: [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] does feel a bit hard to avoid but some other options are [name_f]Meg[/name_f], [name_f]Magda[/name_f], [name_m]Dell[/name_m], [name_f]Dolly[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f].

Some girl suggestions:
[name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Alina[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]

There’s a lot of overlap between your two boys’ lists: [name_m]Bryce[/name_m], [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and [name_m]Brady[/name_m], for example, would fit on both (and even more so on the first one, in my opinion!) and so would [name_m]Gavin[/name_m].

[name_m]Barrett[/name_m] - definitely doesn’t need a nickname.

[name_m]Bram[/name_m] - could be a nickname for [name_m]Bramble[/name_m] or [name_m]Bramwell[/name_m].

I know nothing about hockey so can’t comment on [name_m]Crosby[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] one association would be [name_m]Bing[/name_m] [name_m]Crosby[/name_m].

For the girls:

[name_f]Noelle[/name_f] is great!

[name_f]Winnifred[/name_f] - cute, I prefer the [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] spelling. [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] can be a nickname for lots of other different names, so you could consider something else - [name_f]Winona[/name_f], [name_f]Winsome[/name_f], [name_f]Winter[/name_f], [name_f]Gwyneth[/name_f], [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f], Winnipeg …

[name_f]Marina[/name_f], [name_f]Maria[/name_f], [name_f]Irena[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] are lovely.

[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] - I agree with you on [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], I’m also not a fan. Another nickname could be [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], [name_f]Mena[/name_f], [name_f]Lena[/name_f]?

[name_f]Lois[/name_f] - alternatives could be [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Eloise[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f]?

Thoughts on your boys names:

[name_f]Barrett[/name_f] → solid and handsome, but contemporary too. I think Rett or [name_f]Brett[/name_f] would work as nicknames

[name_f]Sawyer[/name_f] → distinctive and rugged, but grounded too

[name_f]Ryker[/name_f] → spiky and modern. I do find it a bit harsh though

[name_m]Gavin[/name_m] → a bit clunky, ‘dad’ name vibes to me

[name_m]Tatum[/name_m] → I like the charm and softness of it, but if it isn’t quite right, [name_f]Tate[/name_f], [name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_m]Cato[/name_m], [name_m]Nate[/name_m], [name_m]Dallin[/name_m], [name_m]Damian[/name_m], and [name_m]Tristan[/name_m] came to mind

[name_f]Carter[/name_f] → solid, rugged and cool

[name_m]Connor[/name_m] → on trend and versatile - [name_f]Cory[/name_f], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_m]Cable[/name_m], [name_m]Cooper[/name_m], [name_f]Ronnie[/name_f] and [name_m]Sonny[/name_m] came to mind as alternatives

[name_m]Cason[/name_m] - the sound is good, but it does feel a bit like ‘Mason-with-a-C’. Maybe [name_m]Kayson[/name_m], [name_m]Kaysen[/name_m], [name_m]Cayson[/name_m], [name_m]Caysen[/name_m], [name_m]Kaeson[/name_m]?

Names I’d add to this list: [name_m]Callan[/name_m], [name_f]Corbin[/name_f], [name_f]Devin[/name_f], [name_m]Cooper[/name_m], [name_m]Chauncy[/name_m], [name_f]Maverick[/name_f], [name_f]Beck[/name_f], [name_f]Vaughn[/name_f], [name_m]Layton[/name_m], [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], [name_f]Royce[/name_f], [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_f]Nolan[/name_f], [name_m]Sorin[/name_m], [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_f]Dexter[/name_f], [name_f]Paxton[/name_f], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m], [name_m]Boden[/name_m]

[name_m]Bram[/name_m] → cool, literary and bright! [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bram[/name_m]? [name_m]Bramwell[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bram[/name_m]? [name_m]Bertram[/name_m] nn [name_m]Bram[/name_m]?

[name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] → cool meaning and distinctive sound

[name_f]Bryce[/name_f] → sleek and sharp

[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] → kind of cosy and cool! Could you do [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] ‘Remy’ to distinguish it from the relative?

[name_f]Johnny[/name_f] → friendly and classic but cool

[name_m]Lukas[/name_m] → solid and classic, but not dusty.

[name_f]William[/name_f] → a solid classic, but I find it a bit dreary and sticky

[name_m]Christian[/name_m] / [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] → I like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] (distinctive and grand but earthy) but [name_m]Christian[/name_m] feels too descriptive?

[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] → it’s okay. A solid classic but it gives me the same vibes as [name_f]William[/name_f]

[name_f]Brady[/name_f] → charming and cool

[name_m]Crosby[/name_m] is pretty bubbly and buzzy - I know nothing of hockey, but since it’s a positive association, and one that potentially not all would know, I think it would work.

Names I’d add to the list: [name_m]Wilf[/name_m] / [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Frazer[/name_m], [name_m]Donny[/name_m], [name_m]Ralph[/name_m], [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], [name_m]Casper[/name_m], [name_f]Jacoby[/name_f], [name_m]Isaac[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_f]Seth[/name_f], [name_f]Brody[/name_f], [name_f]Rory[/name_f], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], [name_m]Gilbert[/name_m], [name_m]Archie[/name_m], [name_m]Boyd[/name_m], [name_m]Russell[/name_m], [name_f]Gabriel[/name_f], [name_f]Wilson[/name_f]

I think there could be cohesion between the lists. These ones I wouldn’t be surprised to see in the same sibset:

[name_f]Sawyer[/name_f], [name_m]Connor[/name_m], [name_m]Cason[/name_m], [name_f]Carter[/name_f], [name_f]Brady[/name_f], [name_f]William[/name_f], [name_f]Barrett[/name_f], [name_m]Crosby[/name_m], [name_f]Bryce[/name_f], [name_f]Johnny[/name_f], [name_m]Lukas[/name_m], [name_f]Brady[/name_f], [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]

[name_m]Bram[/name_m], [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], [name_f]Ryker[/name_f], [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m], [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], and [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] feel more like outliers/only fitting with some?

So I can see [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m], [name_m]Crosby[/name_m], [name_f]Barrett[/name_f], [name_f]Sawyer[/name_f] and [name_f]Bryce[/name_f] together for example. [name_f]Or[/name_f] [name_m]Christopher[/name_m], [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], [name_m]Jeremy[/name_m], and [name_f]William[/name_f]? [name_f]Or[/name_f] [name_f]Ryker[/name_f] and [name_f]Bryce[/name_f]? [name_m]Bram[/name_m] and [name_f]Sawyer[/name_f]?

Some more to crossover the two lists:

[name_f]Spencer[/name_f], [name_f]Rory[/name_f], [name_m]Donovan[/name_m], [name_f]Sullivan[/name_f], [name_m]Miles[/name_m], [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m]

Onto the girls:

[name_f]Noelle[/name_f] → warm, pretty and stylish

[name_f]Winnifred[/name_f] → clunky cute, not my fave, but it’s okay

[name_f]Marina[/name_f] → bright, sunny ocean vibes but also classy

[name_f]Maria[/name_f] → classic and solid with a hint of flair

[name_f]Lois[/name_f] → gorgeous, warm and lovely

[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] → pretty and elegant, but [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] might well get used (the [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] I met went by Maggie)

[name_f]Irena[/name_f] → I prefer [name_f]Irina[/name_f] but [name_f]Irena[/name_f] is sharp, sweet and distinctive with peaceful charm

[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] → sleek, pretty and stylish, with floral vibes too!

Some suggestions:

[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] / [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Maddalena[/name_f]
[name_f]Mavis[/name_f]
[name_f]Larissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Adella[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Frederica[/name_f] / [name_f]Freda[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] ‘Winnie’
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Hester[/name_f]
[name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Antonia[/name_f]

[name_m]Just[/name_m] some thoughts on a few names. Anything that I left out, I have no opinion on. I’m treating this as though you are naming a person.

I would never have thought of [name_m]Bear[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_f]Barrett[/name_f]. It would be a cute name for a girl but I can’t see it on a boy. Maybe as a middle?.

I can’t see [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] on a young person. Not bad but not my thing, but don’t let my opinion influence yours.

A relative of mine knew a [name_f]Carter[/name_f] and from what I’ve heard, he was arrogant. [name_m]An[/name_m] interesting choice and would work on the right person.

[name_m]Cason[/name_m] does look a little off.

[name_m]Bramble[/name_m] would make a cute long form for [name_m]Bram[/name_m] but maybe it isn’t practicle.

I love [name_f]Bryce[/name_f] for a girl but I’m having trouble finding a middle. Would be a cool choice on either boy or girl.

[name_m]Lukas[/name_m] and [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] would be safe choices, but [name_m]Lucas[/name_m] would be a first thought. [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] would be a good choice.

I know nothing about hockey so [name_m]Crosby[/name_m] is fine.

I like all of the girls names. I recently heard about baby triplets [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] (single N), [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], and another girl whose name I forgot. [name_f]Lena[/name_f] would be a cute nickname for [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts:
[name_f]Barrett[/name_f] - handsome, one of my faves from your list. [name_m]Bear[/name_m] is totally avoidable. None of the Barret(t)s I know go by [name_m]Bear[/name_m].
[name_f]Sawyer[/name_f] - It fits the “trendy, country” category perfectly.
[name_f]Ryker[/name_f] - I actually like this name but the Riker’s [name_m]Island[/name_m] association puts me off a bit. Personally I’ve decided to let this be a pet name rather than going on my list for a human.
[name_m]Gavin[/name_m] - a little early 00s-dated to my ears; Aiden’s best friend. It doesn’t have that much of a country vibe for me either. If you are looking for one to nix, I’d suggest this.
[name_m]Tatum[/name_m] - very underrated for a boy. I find [name_f]Sawyer[/name_f] equally unisex?
[name_f]Carter[/name_f] - neither here nor there for me. Not bad but does not stand out in any significant way.
[name_m]Connor[/name_m] - not super country to me but I like [name_m]Connor[/name_m]! I think parents are starting to turn towards more trendy names nowadays; [name_m]Connor[/name_m] peaked in 2004. I think of [name_m]Connor[/name_m] as a similar name to [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] or [name_f]Rachel[/name_f], names that definitely had their peak but aren’t dated, and aren’t used as much anymore yet still sound good on a modern baby.
[name_m]Cason[/name_m] - I agree that it looks off to me. Like something is missing or wrong. Maybe [name_m]Cayson[/name_m] / [name_m]Caison[/name_m]?
[name_m]Bram[/name_m] - reminds me of [name_m]Dracula[/name_m] lol or bran flakes. It’s a cool nickname but I agree it needs a longer form. [name_m]Abram[/name_m]?
[name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] - definitely an old man name lol it would be a cool middle I think!
[name_f]Bryce[/name_f] - [name_f]Bryce[/name_f] fits in perfectly with both lists. A very solid choice.
[name_m]Jeremy[/name_m] - underrated but if it’s of questionable use for you due to a relative then maybe nix it?
[name_f]Johnny[/name_f] - I slightly prefer [name_m]John[/name_m] nn [name_f]Johnny[/name_f] but I think there’s an undeniable midcentury charm about [name_f]Johnny[/name_f] being a full name.
[name_m]Lukas[/name_m] - I prefer it with the k, but still it doesn’t sparkle for me.
[name_f]William[/name_f] - unpopular opinion maybe but I’m bored of [name_f]William[/name_f]. I’ve met 1,001 [name_m]Williams[/name_m] and it’s just very plain.
[name_m]Christian[/name_m] / [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] - Both are fine and solid names. [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] in particular has been growing on me a lot. I have a friend who insists we use the full [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] and not shorten to [name_f]Chris[/name_f] and it’s helped me appreciate the name a lot more.
[name_m]Joseph[/name_m] - literally one of the most handsome names I can think of. I love [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]!
[name_f]Brady[/name_f] - It kind of fits in with [name_m]Gavin[/name_m] for me. A bit mid-00s. I prefer other names on your list.
[name_m]Crosby[/name_m] - I know nothing about hockey but I always think of [name_m]Bill[/name_m] Cosby and well… that’s not a great association

I would suggest [name_f]Colby[/name_f], [name_m]Destin[/name_m], & [name_m]Elijah[/name_m].

[name_f]Noelle[/name_f] - agree on all accounts. I do think a [name_f]December[/name_f] maybe named [name_f]Noelle[/name_f] is slightly cheesy (but still sweet) but it’s a really nice name. Underrated as a first name too! I see it a lot more as a middle.
[name_f]Winnifred[/name_f] - I’m afraid I can’t shake this association as a great-grandma name.
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] - definitely near the top of my list of underrated names. I am hoping it makes a comeback.
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] - pretty solid classic
[name_f]Lois[/name_f] - Family [name_m]Guy[/name_m]
[name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] - The religious association is pretty strong but that depends on how much you care about that (or it may even be intentional). While I don’t think [name_m]Bear[/name_m] is inevitable for [name_f]Barrett[/name_f], I do think [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f] would get [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but it’s not unavoidable if you insist.
[name_f]Irena[/name_f] - I slightly prefer [name_f]Irina[/name_f] but I suppose it depends how you are pronouncing it? [name_f]Irina[/name_f] would be more like ih-ree-nuh for me, while [name_f]Irena[/name_f] prompts me to say eye-ree-nuh (like [name_f]Irene[/name_f] with an a)
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] - effortlessly chic and elegant. a gem waiting to be discovered by parents.

I would suggest [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] / [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f], [name_f]Lucia[/name_f], & [name_f]Saskia[/name_f]

Thank you so much! [name_f]Lena[/name_f] is a lovely nickname for [name_f]Magdalene[/name_f]

I love all your choices! Thanks for putting so much time into all your suggestions!
