So, it’s important to me and my wife that this baby’s middle name is connected to her family. If we have a boy, one of her top contenders is [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m]. It is a name connected to her paternal grandmother’s side of the family.
I’m struggling to like [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] for some reason. I like a lot of other similar sounding names like [name_m]Aurelius[/name_m], [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] and [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m], and it’s a long name that is in keeping with my love of shorter firsts and longer middles. It’s old fashioned but not unfamiliar, and I can’t think of any particularly negative associations.
I really want to love this name. It holds a lot of meaning for my wife and I feel bad for not loving it like she does. Especially when I have no real reason for not liking it!
cornelius is handsome! i think i went through some warming up to it too, but i think it’s lovely now, and full of nickname potential.
-try looking at some references of people who bear the name? only takes one nice one to warm up a name! i only have meet the robinsons for reference though
-it’s timeless and straight to the point
-will stand out within his generation
-since it is a middle name, slowly work up to not hating it, while finding a first name you both really love?
-imagine it within a sibset? cornelius might be corny, but imagine a little line of, say, will cornelius, john aurelius, adam amadeus
I know I commented in the lounge, but one more thing you could do was maybe learn more about your wife’s paternal grandmother’s side of the family? So that the name [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] becomes meaningful to you too?
Alternatively, is there a way you can find meaning in it for you?
Is the anyone/anything in your life who you could associate with [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_u]Connie[/name_u], Neel/Neil, Nell/Nellie, Kai/Cai//Caj, [name_m]Cornell[/name_m], [name_m]Connell[/name_m], [name_m]Luis[/name_m], [name_u]Cory[/name_u]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] to the meaning ‘horn’?
[name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] is jazzy, fun and will stand out even in the middle name spot. You can use [name_u]Neely[/name_u] as a nickname, so you don’t have to use the feminine-leaning [name_u]Connie[/name_u].
You can make a double name out of it
Luke-Neely
Quince-Neely
etc.
I absolutely second the opinion that maybe finding the first name you really love, looking at the family photos of the significant [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] in your wife’s life or listenig to some stories she might be able to tell… Well, I think [name_m]Cornelius[/name_m] is an underrated classic, definitely stylish and won’t raise eyebrows when seen on a job application lie for example a middle name like [name_u]Fox[/name_u] or [name_u]Legend[/name_u] would. Middle names often work as honors anyway so there is not so much preassure to be absolutely head over heels for a middle. Good luck trying to fall in love tho!
