[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are family names for me, but I don’t think they fit my style - they are a little dull and overdone next to [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Theda[/name_f], [name_u]Scout[/name_u] and [name_f]Lux[/name_f]. However, I’d like to use either one or both of them. I’ve been looking at international variations of these names, and here is my list.
I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] (which you didn’t list but I love).
I also like [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Theda[/name_f], [name_u]Scout[/name_u], [name_f]Lux[/name_f], and [name_f]Greta[/name_f] is my favorite
My favourites are [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f]. Both gorgeous and both feel like a good fit with your other names, though [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] is perhaps a little on the soft side.
There’s also:
[name_f]Magali[/name_f]
[name_f]Margalo[/name_f]
[name_f]Peggy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gretchen[/name_f]
[name_f]Madelief[/name_f] (sort of — same meaning, similar sound)
[name_f]Magda[/name_f] (again, based on sound only)
I think [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] are lovely names
But of your other variations, I like these as a first name for a real human:
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Lisbet[/name_f]
I just posted on another thread about how I looove [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. Also, to go with the flower theme, I think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is an adorable alternative to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - I also love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabel[/name_f].
That being said, [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would both make perfect, solid middle names if you chose to pick something else that you love and use it as a middle.
Thanks a lot! It’s very interesting to see what different people think about the names I’m considering.
I have never heard of [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] before, but I looked it up and it’s Scottish. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it would be weird on a non-Scottish girl? I have very little Scottish blood in me. I also really like [name_f]Magda[/name_f] (and [name_f]Madge[/name_f]), but it’s not really a variation of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f] is also something for me to consider, it’s very pretty.
I love [name_f]Greta[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_f]Margot[/name_f] for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], and I’d like to suggest [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] and [name_f]Margalo[/name_f] as well. I also love the suggestion of [name_f]Madelief[/name_f] from a previous poster. For [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] I love [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f], [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f] and [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] from your list. I especially love seeing [name_f]Ishbel[/name_f], she isn’t much loved on this website it seems. I also love that somebody suggested [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f]! Perhaps these are a little too “mainstream” for your tastes but what about [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilou[/name_f] (for [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f])?
I really like the name [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. Withe a middle name like [name_f]Lorraine[/name_f] or [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], her nickname could be [name_f]Margalo[/name_f].
[name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] are the versions of [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] that I personally would have considered using as a first name.
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] are also used as first names and I think they are adorable (though I would only have used them as nicknames).
[name_f]Libby[/name_f] or Libba would be perfect next to [name_u]Scout[/name_u] and [name_f]Lux[/name_f]! They sound spunky, modern and fun like [name_u]Scout[/name_u] and [name_f]Lux[/name_f].
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] would be nice with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], they both feel classic and vintage, and stylistically it’d go well with [name_f]Theda[/name_f] too but maybe a bit too similar sound-wise. (I pronounce [name_f]Etta[/name_f] like “[name_f]Edda[/name_f]” but if you pronounce the Ts crisply they’d be fine.)
[name_f]Bette[/name_f], as in [name_f]Bette[/name_f] [name_m]Davis[/name_m], would go well with all of them, and [name_f]Bettina[/name_f] would be dainty and vintage-feeling like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Theda[/name_f] too.
I also really like [name_f]Marit[/name_f] from your list.
Have you considered [name_f]Magali[/name_f]? It’s a [name_m]French[/name_m] name in its own right, but also combines [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
