Help me match the sound of Edelweiss

Hey everyone,

Anyone have any suggestions for matching the sound of Edelweiss? I think it’s just a beautiful sounding word, and our last name is very [name]German[/name] so something similar would totally work.
So far, I’ve come up with:
[name]Ada[/name] [name]Elise[/name] (my favorite)
[name]Eloise[/name] (DHs favorite)
[name]Adelaide[/name] (I love the name [name]Adelheid[/name], but its too ethnic for my taste. [name]Adelaide[/name], however, isn’t my favorite. It reminds me of [name]Kool[/name]-[name]Aide[/name])
Any other ideas?

[name]Ecaterina[/name]
Karalena

Maybe?

Annalise / [name]Annaliese[/name]?

[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Edana[/name]

[name]Anna[/name] [name]Liesel[/name]

[name]Edel[/name]
[name]Adelais[/name] (Meaning, origin and history of the name Adelais - Behind the Name) (I think that this one is my favorite for you.)
Adalis
[name]Adamaris[/name]

Lots of great suggestons so far…I’ll add plain old [name]Adele[/name].

I heard the name Adeliese somewhere. I pronounce it [name]Add[/name]-uh-liese. Kind of like [name]Anneliese[/name].

[name]Lorelei[/name]
[name]Mirabel[/name]
[name]Liselotte[/name]
[name]Anneliese[/name]
[name]Amalie[/name]
[name]Hannelore[/name]
[name]Magdalene[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]

I’m with you—I [name]LOVE[/name] Edelweiss! Such a pretty name. I might use it if I thought I could get away with it. Probably better suited for a cow, though.

[name]Adelheid[/name] certainly does have the same sound. I personally love [name]Adelaide[/name], but if it’s not your cup of tea, it’s not your cup of tea.
[name]Annaliese[/name], recommended above, also sounds like Edelweiss to me.
[name]Adelais[/name], mentioned by nono above, is a totally cool find/form of [name]Adelheid[/name]/[name]Adelaide[/name].

What else…

[name]Lorelei[/name]
[name]Adeline[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name]
(anything that ends in -ine)
[name]Ana[/name]ïs
[name]Aravis[/name]
Adrasteia

[name]Daenerys[/name] (Pregnancy, Parenting, Lifestyle, Beauty: Tips & Advice | mom.com)

Eirlys (Welsh for “snowdrop” so even kind of similar meaning ~ Pregnancy, Parenting, Lifestyle, Beauty: Tips & Advice | mom.com)
[name]Nereida[/name]
[name]Gwyneira[/name] (Welsh again for “white as snow” or “[name]Snow[/name] White”! another similar meaning to Edelweiss! (Pregnancy, Parenting, Lifestyle, Beauty: Tips & Advice | mom.com)

I will add a vote for [name]Annelise[/name] or [name]Adelais[/name]. I will also add [name]Elowen[/name] as a possibility.

[name]Edith[/name] [name]Elise[/name]

A lot of good suggestions already…don’t know if I saw Hannelotte on there.

[name]Ada[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Adah[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Adele[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Anna[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Edith[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Edna[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Ethel[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Odelia[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Odile[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Odette[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
[name]Una[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]

Wow! Thanks for all the great suggestions! I’m really loving [name]Adelais[/name]. [name]How[/name] is that pronounced - [name]Ad[/name]-uh-lace? [name]Ad[/name]-uh-lay (french?) [name]Ada[/name]-uh-lease?

I really love the name [name]Elowen[/name]. It’s just slightly too uncommon for my DH. I was in love with [name]Elowen[/name], so he suggested [name]Eloise[/name] - which I now also love.

Also - does anyone have any guidance on how to pronounce [name]Lieselotte[/name]? [name]Lisa[/name]-lot?

Forvo has these two pronunciations up for [name]Adelais[/name], which to my ear sound sort of like a combination of [name]Ad[/name]-uh-lace and [name]Ada[/name]-uh-lease:

[name]Ad[/name]-uh-lai-ees, perhaps? I think that you could get away with any of those pronunciations…

I would pronounce [name]Lieselotte[/name] like lee-zel-lot, but if you were to be a purist it would be more like lee-zel-lot-uh.
