Help me name a male, main fantasy character?!

Hello,
So, I already posted something about it but I’m getting really confused over this character’s name. It sounds worse each time I try to name him in my head.
I picked Alexander for him, but it just doesn’t fit him or the story. Too common, but I love the name. Is sexy, masculine, with a great meaning and it’s just delicious to say. One thing, I’m not fond of the nn Alex.

About him:
This character is young (about 20), tall, many scars, dark hair. He’s a warrior, of sorts, more like a coldblooded killer. He is a wizard with control over fire. He’s smart, confident (outside), loves sarcasm and he’s fun to have around. He can be great at lying and manipulating if he wants. He is really troubled for all he’s done. He works for the bad guy until he realizes how bad the bad guy really is. So he has a conscious and a sense of justice. His magical and combat skills are quite impressive, and this is only one of the reasons the bad guy has mentally manipulated him, which he of course discovers. He also discovers, after a bunch of troubles and things happen, that he has royal blood. He’s key for the story, and very important for the protagonist.

About the setting…
The world consists in several ‘dimensions’ linked with magic, but the barriers between them are difficult to cross. Some of these places are known to be hell-like, other the home of the gods, and the mortal lands, where the story is placed. There are magical creatures such as dragons and griffins, elves and sylphs, but with characteristic touches. It’s set in the change from the 17th and 18th century, but the people have advanced clockwork artifices and a good understanding of their world. They are polytheists mostly, but it depends on the kingdom.

The female protagonist’s name is Farene (far-ee-n). Renand, Brandon, Sigrid, Oreithyia, Sargon, Yvette, are some of the other character’s names. I like Greek, Celtic, or ancient names with some interesting meaning and sound somewhat fantastical but pronounceable. It’s been a nightmare to find the right name for him, the one that screams “Yes, this is him!”

These are the ones I’m considering:
Aegean (love this). Or a variant: Egean. “Gean” as nn. *the thing with these is that are related to a sea, and he is a fire-wizard…

Aedric or Eadric (recently fell in love with “Aedric”)
Kai (I’m not sure this suits him)
Aerden
Eliezer
Rysdan
Ashmond
Einar

So I’m asking: could you help me decide? Which one sounds best for him? What do you think of the first choice, Alexander? And, could you make suggestions?

Ooh I like Aedric alot. Looks super cool and sounds super cool. Has the [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] vibe but is much more interesting. It also is pretty easy to pronounce which is always a good thing. I like Aegean but I see where the meaning could be a little confusing with his powers. Maybe there can be a backstory to why he’s named that? Maybe the Aegean sea meant alot to his parents? [name_m]Just[/name_m] an idea.

I also really like Aedric and Eadric as well. Both names could also use [name_m]Ric[/name_m] or [name_u]Ricky[/name_u] for a nn with someone special (if anyone like that exists- childhood nn maybe?). I like [name_m]Eliezer[/name_m] as well.

In regards to Aegean, it definitely fits the strong image but I do agree the water imagery is confusing. It also makes me wonder if this story is set in our world or another where the Aegean sea doesn’t exist, which may be a good or bad thing for the name.

You might also consider variations of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] that are less common such as [name_m]Aleksandr[/name_m], [name_m]Alexei[/name_m], [name_m]Alexandros[/name_m] etc.

Those names sound really cool. It looks like you’re going with made-up names as well?

I like [name_m]Egan[/name_m]/[name_m]Eagan[/name_m], but I thought they were related to [name_m]Iagan[/name_m] which again is related to [name_u]Aidan[/name_u] and means ‘fire’, can you illuminate the water connection for me?

For suggestions, [name_m]Sindri[/name_m]/Sindre, means ‘sparkling’, or Roshan, ‘light, bright’.

I’m not keen on [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], but I never really liked the name. It’s also a sort of typical regal name…

I believe the original poster intended [name_m]Eagan[/name_m] to be an alternate spelling of Aegean, as in the sea lying between Greece and Turkey, but you’re right, on their own the names [name_m]Eagan[/name_m]/[name_m]Egan[/name_m] relate to fire.

I never realized how cool Aedric sounds. I’m still a bit nostalgic for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], but I’ll keep looking for options. The thread is still open.
The setting is not in this world, so the word “Aegean” doesn’t exist. Still, I think I could find a better name. Think it as a dimension where magic exists.
So far, the one with better chance are Aedric, Rysdan and [name_m]Eliezer[/name_m] (but I think [name_m]Eliezer[/name_m] is less strong. Idk)

I like to use names that sound cool for a world that is not ours. So yes, I suppose I made-up some :). Most of these are modifications I made of existing names I found. Curious thing: most of the places in my story are translated, slightly modified words. Thanks all!

Okay, so.

You said you liked the name [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] for him but didn’t like [name_u]Alex[/name_u], correct?
What if you made [name_m]Zander[/name_m] or [name_m]Xander[/name_m] as a sort of nickname for [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]? There’s also [name_u]Sandy[/name_u], but that doesn’t sound too masculine (as your character is described).

Sorry for my lack of help!! But I wish you luck on your story.

I see your problem with [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] and a way around that would be to nickname him [name_m]Alec[/name_m] or [name_m]Xander[/name_m].
Would that make his name more unique and fitting?
If not the I like [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] quite a lot and I think it fits your character.
