So I have a village that serves as the setting for the first half of my story, but I haven’t been able to settle on a name for it yet and figured I needed to crowd source some ideas.
The village is set in the high mountains and is relatively small, about a hundred or so people. It’s part of a network of independently ruled villages that are facing encroachment by a religious sovereignty. It’s a mining town (some metal, probably copper or iron) which used to provide most of its trade amongst the other villages, but that mining decreased drastically after a mining accident. The level of technology is around an electricity-less mid 1800s. It is the very definition of “home” for many characters and exemplified a sleepy mountain hamlet where everyone knows each other.
I don’t want to use “ville” as a part of the name (aka [name_m]Orville[/name_m]) because several characters share this trait and I think it would be confusing. Partway through the story the village gets sacked, displacing and killing many, and it’s a devastating occurrence. For at least 2 main characters afterward the story revolves around reclaiming the village and seeking revenge for what was done to it and it’s inhabitants, so it’s a pretty important party of the story. Names I have considered for it include Lindow, Lilydun, Whiteridge, Silverwynne, Addlebury, and Northbell.
