So after A LOT of deliberation, I made a major change to my story that’s left me feeling a lot better about the project as a whole. This change involved renaming characters and completely reworking my main character’s background. Now I need help naming her siblings. Keep in mind this family is from [name]Atlanta[/name] in the 1910s.
Her [my main character’s] name is [name]Esther[/name] [name]Lillian[/name] [name]Hart[/name]. Here’s the birth order of her and her siblings:
[name]Powell[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] [name]Hart[/name] ([name]Powell[/name] is their mother’s maiden name)
The last three boys are the ones I need help naming. Since [name]Powell[/name] has their mother’s maiden name, I liked the idea of doing the grandmothers’ maiden names for the twin boys. [I filled out a four generation family tree just to know the family names. :D] [name]One[/name] maiden name is [name]Mercer[/name] and the other is Delacroix. Delacroix would go by [name]Dell[/name] most of the time, but I worry about Delacroix sticking out too much. I really like [name]Mercer[/name], but I’m not sold on Delacroix.
In the likely case that all I’m doing is confusing you, here is the list of family names available for these three boys:
[name]Mercer[/name]
Delacroix
[name]James[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Bishop[/name] (MUST be used as first or middle name for one of the boys - very old family name)
Thornberry
Providence
[name]David[/name]
Waters
[name]Ren[/name]é
Jeandreau
In all honesty, the three youngest brothers don’t come up much at all. However, as all name nerds would understand, it’s very important that they’re named. Thanks for any help/suggestions.
I actually adore the name [name]Mercer[/name] and like the idea of having maiden names of the family be used for the current generation though I do think that Delacroix would stand out, what if Delacroix was the middle name of one of the twins and the grandfather on that side’s name or middle name was used as that twins first name… that might not be the easiest way to explain what I mean but say that “[name]Fred[/name]” (first name that entered my head) married Miss-Used-To-Be-Delacroix and to honour that side of the family one twin was named [name]Fred[/name] Delacroix… does that even make sense? So they’re named after both of the mother or father’s parents
Twin A - [name]Mercer[/name] [name]James[/name]
Twin B - ______ Delacroix (or if this idea doesn’t work for you I like [name]Alexander[/name] Delacroix/Delacroix [name]Alexander[/name])
Younger Brother - [name]David[/name] [name]Bishop[/name]
Twin A - [name]Mercer[/name] [name]David[/name]
Twin B - [name]James[/name] Delacroix
Younger Brother - [name]Bishop[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]
@jasmine.lee: [name]Mercer[/name] [name]David[/name] was a great suggestion.
@lizalee: I did exactly what you suggested for Twin B. Delacroix is his maternal grandmother’s maiden name, and [name]James[/name] is his maternal grandfather’s first name.
The twins’ names are 99% set. Now for the youngest boy, I’ve tentatively decided on [name]Bishop[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]. It’s his paternal grandfather’s name flipped. [name]Bishop[/name] was used as a middle name for at least four generations and was originally a maiden name. Why not bump it to the first name spot?
[name]Powell[/name], [name]Esther[/name], [name]Nora[/name], [name]Mercer[/name], [name]James[/name], and [name]Bishop[/name]?
[name]Powell[/name] [name]Thomas[/name], [name]Esther[/name] [name]Lillian[/name], [name]Nora[/name] [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Mercer[/name] [name]David[/name], [name]James[/name] Delacroix, and [name]Bishop[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] they will be. Thanks all!
