This is going to be my beautiful new kitten! He is just the sweetest, most loving little thing, totally stole my heart. I actually went to the cat rescue to look at another kitten, but he just completely won me over instead! He’s only 9 weeks old, I get to pick him up on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]! I want to name him something fitting of such an adorable little thing, something respectable. I was thinking [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] Twist, as I like literary names. I was also thinking [name_m]Galileo[/name_m] or [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] [name_u]Van[/name_u] Gogh (as they were both redheads!) but my husband completely vetoed them. (Husband doesn’t seem to be too keen on the type of names I like.) Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] for him! (He is beautiful, by the way.) Others that come to mind:
Antares (“giant red star”)
[name_m]Leo[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
Opie ([name_m]Ron[/name_m] [name_u]Howard[/name_u], a redhead, played Opie in The [name_u]Andy[/name_u] [name_m]Griffith[/name_m] Show as a young boy.)
[name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] (Greek for dark red)
[name_m]Rogan[/name_m] (“red headed”)
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] (“red king”)
[name_m]Russell[/name_m] ([name_m]French[/name_m] for “little red”)
Aww he is adorable! Congrats on your new fur bundle, hope he settles in well.
We have a ginger tabby called [name_m]Hamish[/name_m], because over here it’s a stereotypical Scottish name and a lot of Scottish people are ginger - it started as a joke name while we were trying to find a better name, then it just stuck because it really suits him and it has a nice ring to it when you’re yelling it by the back door!
We also considered [name_m]Rufus[/name_m] because it means ‘redhead’ but we like it so much we wanted to save it for a potential future child.
A friend suggested Aslan from the Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f], which we liked (especially as our third cat is called Gandalf so we would have had a Tolkien/[name_m]Lewis[/name_m] thing going on) but being Christians it was a bit too close to calling our cat [name_m]Jesus[/name_m].
Personally I think two-syllable names work best for cats because they respond to them better. We have another cat called [name_m]Jones[/name_m] after the cat in the film Alien, but we call him [name_m]Jonesy[/name_m] most of the time because it’s more effective at getting his attention.
Literary names that work for cats:
Dodger - since you like [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] Twist
[name_m]Sherlock[/name_m], [name_m]Watson[/name_m], or maybe Moriarty NN [name_m]Arty[/name_m] if you think he might be a naughty cat
Macavity, a cat from a TS [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] poem
[name_m]Gatsby[/name_m] - would be so cute on a little kitten!
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] (Wilde)
Or pick any [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m] character, they have awesome names. My favourite for a male cat would be [name_m]Tybault[/name_m] from [name_m]Romeo[/name_m] and [name_f]Juliet[/name_f].
What a cutie! Everytime I see an orange cat I think of [name_m]Heathcliff[/name_m] the cartoon.
Some literary names I think of: [name_f]Copper[/name_f] (as in [name_m]David[/name_m] Copperfield), [name_m]Ernest[/name_m] ([name_m]Hemingway[/name_m]), [name_m]Ichabod[/name_m], [name_u]Darcy[/name_u], any of [name_m]Ralph[/name_m] [name_m]Waldo[/name_m] [name_m]Emmerson[/name_m]'s names would fit, Dodger (Artful Dodger)
I’m so jealous you’re getting a ginger kitty! It’s my dream cat and I have the name [name_m]Perseus[/name_m] set aside just for when I get another cat. What about [name_m]Percival[/name_m], [name_m]Leopold[/name_m] or [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]? [name_u]Percy[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m] and [name_m]Iggy[/name_m]/[name_m]Nate[/name_m]?
We have a kitten very similar to your cutie there, his name is [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] (that was his name when we adopted him from the shelter), we liked it, so we kept it. It suits him so well. We call him Sebby for short and his middle name (yes we gave him one) is [name_u]James[/name_u].
