Help me name Owen's twin sister!

I’m hoping you can help me create a perfect sibling set for my family! We have a 3 year old son named [name_m]Cole[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] and I’m due with boy/girl twins in the next few weeks. Our twin boy will be named [name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m], but we can’t agree on a name for our baby girl! Here are a few of the names that we’ve been discussing. I’m open to opinions and other options, including middle names. I’d really love for all of the names to work together! Our last name is [name_m]Benson[/name_m] if that helps…

[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]) - I’ve always loved this classic name and it’s our first choice right now
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] - Beautiful name and meaning, but it feels like such a grown up name for a baby
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] ([name_f]Tilly[/name_f]) - Has a somewhat matching meaning to [name_u]Owen[/name_u], but not sure I love it
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] - [name_m]Just[/name_m] adorable in my opinion, but my husband doesn’t love it as an adult name

There are many more names I love (major soft spot for [name_f]Freya[/name_f]), but it’s been challenging coming up with a short list that both my husband and I agree on. I’m sure a lot of you can relate

Thanks so much for your help!

Your list is perfect. You cannot go wrong, because everything is so lovely, and all of your choices would sound great with brothers [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_m]Cole[/name_m].

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a wonderful name. So many nickname choices, but also beautiful as is. If you love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], I think you should stick to it. You can never go wrong with a classic choice.

[name_f]Claire[/name_f] is my second choice (though I admit I am biased, as my name is [name_f]Claire[/name_f]). I love the classic simplicity of my name…and exactly opposite from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], there are no nicknames for [name_f]Claire[/name_f], which would be perfect with your boys, as [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] don’t have any automatic nicknames either. I don’t think [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is too grown up a name for a baby. Yesterday, my mum was showing me a video of me when I was about 9 months old, and as my parents were calling my name in the video, I thought, “what a lovely, simple choice for a little person”. I’ve always loved being a [name_f]Claire[/name_f]

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] would be a beautiful combination.

Your other choices are fantastic too…[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is a personal favourite of mine.

Best of luck, and congratulations! Twins! [name_m]How[/name_m] exciting!

I like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], out of your list. Some other choices of mine would be [name_u]Kelsey[/name_u], [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], [name_f]Lea[/name_f] (or [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], etc), or [name_f]Marina[/name_f] if you want to go for a more normal and well-known name. But if you’re like me and want something different, I suggest [name_u]Ember[/name_u], [name_f]Catalina[/name_f] ([name_f]Cat[/name_f] or [name_f]Lina[/name_f] as a nn), [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_f]Lana[/name_f], or [name_f]Willa[/name_f]/[name_f]Willow[/name_f].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped!

I think [name_f]Claire[/name_f] works the best as [name_u]Owen[/name_u]'s twin and [name_m]Cole[/name_m]'s little sister. [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] are all solid, sturdy-sounding names with no frills or nicknames and I like that they match in that way. I’ve primarily met “Claires” that were little girls or babies, so it’s not hard for me to picture it on a baby. Your other names are beautiful too, though! I don’t think you can do wrong with what you’re considering.

Thank you all so much for your replies! I do like that [name_f]Claire[/name_f] fits in well with [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] in that they really aren’t nickname-friendly names. I tend to gravitate towards shorter names for that very reason, so it’s interesting that I like [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] since it has a million nickname options.

To aoifeoregan - thank you for the additional name suggestions! It’s funny that you mentioned [name_u]Ember[/name_u], because I saw that name for the first time on here the other day and I love it.

I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]!

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] feels a little more offbeat next to [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u], but not bad at all. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is cute, but also doesn’t ‘fit’ somehow.

[name_f]Claire[/name_f] would be my first choice; so pretty, sweet, strong, sophisticated but uncomplicated. Perfect.

[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is also sweet, but I’m just smitten with [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f].

[name_u]Ember[/name_u], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Claire[/name_f] are beautiful names. Not a fan of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] is darling but, way to common.

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is beautiful with the sibset

Any chance you would consider [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]?

[name_m]Cole[/name_m] [name_m]Gregory[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u] [name_m]Edward[/name_m], & [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]?

I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] from your list. They go perfectly with [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] would be my top choice.

I agree with other posters that all of the names are lovely and classic, so you can’t go wrong.

Of your choices, my favorites with [name_m]Cole[/name_m] & [name_u]Owen[/name_u] are [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] & [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

I do love your choices. A few suggestions that you might have already considered:

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - you could call her [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nn. It’s not that much of a stretch and I agree [name_f]Lily[/name_f] can sound a bit too soft for adulthood.

[name_f]Claire[/name_f] - why not [name_f]Clara[/name_f]? However, ‘adult’ names on babies look pretty darn cute in practice.

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote would be [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u] & [name_f]Clara[/name_f].

[name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_f]Esther[/name_f]?
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (I like it!)
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Claire/name_f
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Esther[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]

I think [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], and [name_f]Esther[/name_f] has a nice ring to it.

Oh, I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f]! [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] sounds wonderful!
She could be nicknamed [name_f]Clary[/name_f] or CC, if you give her a C middle name. I like that it doesn’t have a nickname though. It’s short and sweet. [name_u]Owen[/name_u] doesn’t really have a nickname, so it feels like a perfect match!
I’m not sure I like [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] together, but it’s not too terrible.

I love [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and it’s great with [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. It does have a lot of the same sounds as [name_m]Cole[/name_m] though, and of course the repeated initial.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_f]Lena[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f] (another long O sound like her brothers!)
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]

I feel like [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] is a bit long with [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] works, but my favorites by far are [name_u]Owen[/name_u] & [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] & [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I have an [name_u]Owen[/name_u], and both of these names have been on my list for a potential sister. Other names I think would go wonderfully: [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Mara[/name_f], [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]…these are all on my short list! Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!

I like all your names. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is probably my favourite for you, followed by [name_f]Freya[/name_f]. Have you considered using [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] rather than [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]? It’s a legitimate stand-alone name, it gets you to [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], and it’s four-letters-long like [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u].

I wouldn’t pick [name_f]Claire[/name_f] in this particular situation for my own name nerd reasons. I don’t care when two out of three siblings share an initial, especially when the odd-one out is a twin. In a sibset of [name_m]Cole[/name_m], [name_u]Owen[/name_u], and [name_f]Claire[/name_f], I would expect [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f] to be the twins. Does that make any sense? That being said, I think [name_f]Claire[/name_f] would make a lovely middle name for a short first name. That way you have the possibility of calling her by a double name if you like (e.g. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f], or [name_f]Freya[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]).

Thank you all for your feedback and suggestions! The twins have still not arrived yet. They’ve surprised all of my doctors and me and have thankfully decided to wait until they are full term. I’m still on the fence about choosing the name [name_f]Claire[/name_f] because I feel that it is so so close to her older brother’s name, [name_m]Cole[/name_m]. Along with [name_f]Claire[/name_f] I’m considering [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] which was one of your suggestions!

I also love the suggestion of using the long “O” sound as a common thread between the sibset. So older brother [name_m]Cole[/name_m], boy twin [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and girl twin…[name_f]Rose[/name_f] perhaps? Can anyone think of any other long “O” girl names that would work?

Otherwise, the issue is trying to find a name that my husband loves as much as I do. Here is a short of list of some names he likes. Maybe someone can come up with a name that suits us both!

My Husband’s List
[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]
[name_u]Madison[/name_u]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Paige[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]

So my questions are:

  • Thoughts on [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Rose[/name_f]?
  • Alternative long “O” names?
  • Other suggestions based on my husband’s list?

Thanks!!!

I love the sounds of [name_f]Rose[/name_f] with [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_u]Owen[/name_u]! I also really like [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and the names in your husband’s list, but I’d probably rank them: [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Paige[/name_f], [name_f]Abigail[/name_f], [name_u]Madison[/name_u], [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f].

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is great and there’s something just so lovable about a baby [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] I’m glad you like the long o idea too! There are actually quite a lot of lovely ones:
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Nola[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] (probably not with [name_m]Cole[/name_m])
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]/[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f]
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanna[/name_f] (not sure she’s ready for a comeback yet, but I love it!)
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Jolie[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Ramona[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] (your DH might like this as it’s similar to his list)
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Noelle[/name_f]

[name_f]Claire[/name_f] is my favorite by far! It fits best with your short boys names.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or better yet
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
