Help me to love my son’s name

Dear all
I just wanted to send another message of thanks to you all for taking the time to write to me. It’s so kind. I am still reading through all your detailed responses and taking it all in. I intend to reply to each one! Thank you again, [name_f]Amy[/name_f]

Thank you! The Microsoft link made me smile, hehe! Thank you so much for pointing out that [name_f]Mary[/name_f] means bitter, that actually made me feel better because indeed it is a common (and pretty) name yet, as you say, people don’t associate bitter with [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

Aww thank you, yes he is wonderful and has indeed overcome challenges already as a premature baby. From someone who already has an [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] I’m pleased to hear that [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] and [name_m]Acer[/name_m] would work well together. It’s also a relief to hear that I am not the only one who likes more than one name. I do wonder whether, in general, people prefer classical traditional names like [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] (instead of Acer) and whether that would be a safer choice though…

Thank you; indeed the maple tree [name_m]Acer[/name_m] was indeed the main reason behind our choice. You’re so right, the birth and early months were difficult. As my partner says, they were beautiful and brutal at the same time. Interesting that you prefer traditional names, I must admit I wonder whether others feel the same way and whether going for a classical traditional name (like Alfie) would have been better… you do make a good point though when you say that perhaps I would have wondered if I should go with a unique name if I didn’t…

Great idea, thank you. I did this actually, I got his footprint painted on a [name_u]Christmas[/name_u] bauble and was hoping this would help. His name is on it too. Hasn’t yet but to be fair it’s not up all the time, was on the tree for a few days only so maybe I need something more permanent up to regularly remind me of his name so I get used to it …
