HELP! Mia or Holly? (Long - but really need opinions) OCD

I honestly have OCD tendencies, and having multiple children and seeing patterns in their names causes me a lot of stress! I need level headed people to tell me if I’m just being crazy, or if you see my point

My husband and I are expecting our sixth child together (currently have 4 boys and 1 girl, in that order). Each one of my boys has an “M” name, and a Biblical name. Our daughter does not have either (it near killed me to break that pattern, but figured that my boys could just have that specific pattern). What’s worse is that we used the same initial “S” for her first name as we did with one of her older brothers. It still bugs me, but people tell me they don’t think anything of it, so I’ve learned to deal with it. Well, now we’re thinking of the name [name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], which works for my OCD tendencies. My four oldest would all share the letter “M”, and my four youngest would share the letter “S” (the twins in the middle double up and connect everyone together, as they have both M’s and S’s). No idea if that makes sense to anyone, lol.

However, I absolutely adore the name [name_f]Mia[/name_f]. My one son got to pick my daughter’s name, and now my other son wants to name this one, and loves that name too. The only problem is that it starts with “M”. I already have a son that starts with “M”, AND if I go ahead with that - all of them would have the letter “M” other than my one daughter. Am I being bonkers, or should I go with it? You can be brutally honest :stuck_out_tongue:

For reference, here are my kids’ names, along with what we’re debating for a girl name:

[name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Malik[/name_m] [name_m]Damian[/name_m] (shares J and M like next brother)
[name_u]Mason[/name_u] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] (shares J and M like previous brother)
[name_m]Scott[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Graham[/name_m] (initials are opposite of twin brother, shares M with all brothers shares S with sisters if [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is chosen)
[name_m]Gavin[/name_m] [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m] [name_m]Simon[/name_m] (initials are opposite of twin brother, shares M with all brothers, shares S with sisters if [name_f]Holly[/name_f] is chosen)
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] (shares S and H with [name_f]Holly[/name_f])
[name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] (shares S and H like previous sister)
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] ______ (won’t share two initials like my singletons do, has “M” name which singles out my daughter [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], but really like the name)

Sorry for seeming psychotic - I really overthink things. :o

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] has never been my style…plus to my ear it sounds like “Me-a,” or a toddler’s way of saying “mine.” OTOH, I love [name_f]Holly[/name_f], & love the combination w/[name_f]Serena[/name_f] & [name_u]Quinn[/name_u].

Use the name you love most. For what it’s worth, [name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is absolutely stunning to my ear, but as is [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]. I think that [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] is a name worth breaking the pattern for. It has deep meaning to you and your son. Also, for what it’s worth, the pattern isn’t obvious to people outside of your family.

I completely understand where you’re coming from, as a fellow OCD sufferer. It would drive me up a wall! Naming my own daughter drove me up a wall! And still does, a little bit, to be honest.

I don’t think you’re being crazy. For what it’s worth, I strongly prefer [name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]–not only because of the balance it would give you, but it really does just sound lovely with your daughter’s name. I can’t think of anything I’d like better with [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f].

Have you considered: [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] shares the first initial S with [name_m]Scott[/name_m], so maybe [name_f]Mia[/name_f] sharing with [name_u]Mason[/name_u] would actually be linking the girls together? And the fact that one son named [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] while the next names [name_f]Mia[/name_f]? Or maybe there’s another initial that [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] & [name_f]Mia[/name_f] could share!

[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_u]Harper[/name_u] [name_f]Belle[/name_f] & [name_f]Mia[/name_f] - another name that shares the H or B initial? could [name_f]Holly[/name_f] be [name_f]Mia[/name_f]'s middle name?
H’s: [name_f]Hailey[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_u]Halle[/name_u], [name_f]Heloise[/name_f], [name_u]Hero[/name_u], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
B’s: [name_f]Bianca[/name_f], [name_u]Bailey[/name_u], [name_f]Bronwyn[/name_f], [name_f]Bijou[/name_f], [name_f]Briana[/name_f]

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_u]Halle[/name_u] would be really pretty! Or [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_u]Hero[/name_u] - she would then share a word name - [name_u]Hero[/name_u] & [name_f]Belle[/name_f]. Maybe instead of changing [name_f]Mia[/name_f], you could change [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]? Not sure how set you are on that one, but maybe [name_f]Mia[/name_f]'s middle initials could be H & B? [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] [name_f]Bree[/name_f]? I’m not great at putting together combos - sorry! [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Heidi[/name_f] B- also sounds sweet!

I totally see the 4Ms/4S’s connection, but I don’t see why [name_f]Mia[/name_f] couldn’t have an S name for her middle as well!
S’s: [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_f]Sarah[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Seraphina[/name_f], [name_f]Saskia[/name_f].

I think it sounds like you love the name [name_f]Mia[/name_f] - I think it’s worth finding other connections to make your OCD happy - such as the sharing the H, B or S initial, or having a word name somewhere in there, or having a unisex middle name?

And for what it’s worth, if I met people with kids: [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_m]Scott[/name_m], [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] & [name_f]Mia[/name_f] or [name_f]Holly[/name_f] , I wouldn’t notice initials or middle names or anything, I’d notice that they have 1-2 syllable first names that are well known, easy to pronounce and spell, not overly popular - which I think is enough to tie all the kiddos together! [name_f]Remember[/name_f] that most people won’t know their middle names, so it’s not like naming all your kids: [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u] & [name_m]Xavier[/name_m]. Best of luck!

Thank you all so much - I was really nervous to post, but wanted true criticism. I do agree that [name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] sounds stunning, but I know how much it’d mean to my son if he helped name her as well (he’s always in the shadow of my eldest, and has poor self-esteem. Knowing my eldest named my last daughter, and he doesn’t get to name this one would really upset him).

Thank you, to each one of you, for helping with this - whether I go with [name_f]Holly[/name_f] or [name_f]Mia[/name_f], I know it’ll be okay

My vote is for [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]—it’s a beautiful combination and goes well with your other daughter’s name. I don’t think that the linked M sounds would single your older daughter out too much. A lot of the M sounds from your boys’ names are in the middle name position, aside from [name_u]Mason[/name_u], but most people outside of the family would not realize this so I don’t think it will be an issue. And I’m sure your son would love to be a part of helping to pick out his little sister’s name. Either name is beautiful, though. Best of luck to you!

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think she will be your last baby?

If so, you could consider

[name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_f]Mia[/name_f]/[name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Serene[/name_f] - she would then be the baby to ‘complete’ the pattern, linking to all the siblings by having a letter from everyone?

[name_f]Holly[/name_f] [name_f]Serena[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is adorable, but it sounds like your heart is set on [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], which is just as pretty!

I like the previous suggestions of using [name_f]Holly[/name_f] as a MN to link [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] with the new baby - [name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Holly[/name_f] doesn’t have the greatest flow, but I feel like it would tick all the boxes you wanted in a name.

You could also do;

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Beth[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Heather[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_u]Beau[/name_u]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_u]Shannon[/name_u]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f] [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_u]Bay[/name_u]
