Hi, we need help picking out a middle name for Amal. We would like for it to honor grandmothers, Dorothy and Ruth, but don’t like either of those names alone.
We’ve tried looking up names that have similar meanings for both and can’t agree. He’s not keen on anything that includes -Dora.
However, at this point I’m just trying to find something that we both agree on that even if it doesn’t have an honor connection. Big sister is Astrid Maren.
ANY suggestions are appreciated. We like unique names with strong meanings.
Congratulations on your second daughter! [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f] is a gorgeous name and [name_u]Amal[/name_u] is a wonderful choice for her sister.
[name_u]Amal[/name_u] is a lovely name, as is [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Maren[/name_f]!
The honors that I would consider as a [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] honor would be [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f], [name_f]Dot[/name_f], [name_f]Dotty[/name_f], [name_f]Dolores[/name_f], and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f]— kind of an inverse of [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f]. [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] also means “gift of God”, so some names that mean “gift of / from God” or something quite similar are below~
For [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], my most favorite honors are [name_f]Ruthie[/name_f], [name_u]Rue[/name_u], [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_u]Rae[/name_u], and [name_f]Naomi[/name_f] (from the same Biblical story). [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] means “compassionate friend”, so some names that mean “friend” or something similar are~
Well mixing the some of the letters from [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] together there were a few options my favourite was [name_u]Truth[/name_u].
[name_u]Amal[/name_u] [name_u]Truth[/name_u] sounds lovely and is a strong meaning.
[name_f]Trudy[/name_f] was another option from the letters, very string meaning also…
I like [name_f]Cara[/name_f] from the above comments it has a beautiful meaning
I have heard of [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as a short form of Dorothea… i know it’s not technically the same name as [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] but when i look at [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] the Th is similar between them so I think [name_f]Thea[/name_f] could tie the names together nicely or any name with a Th might work.
