I’ve been bombarding this forum with questions for long enough.
I MUST choose.
I am fortunate enough to have my husband on board with three fabulous names. I honestly don’t think I will find any more. I’m a long time name nerd and I just don’t see any more lovely names such as these making there way out into the light AND having my very picky husband agree to it! So this is where I need your help.
In the unlikely scenario that you haven’t already seen in my other threads, big brother is [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] nn [name_u]Jem[/name_u].
First Name Options-
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]- someone said something about it being a ‘hooker’ name and it threw me off a little bit. But I still love the name, particularly because it matches in style to [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. I’m thinking her nickname would either be [name_f]Letty[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u], or [name_u]Kit[/name_u].
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]- a long time love for both of us, it’s seeming a little ‘boring’ as of late. It is the name we’ve had on our list the longest though, which does say something. I think [name_u]Jem[/name_u] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] sound sweet, but it seems short next to [name_u]Jameson[/name_u]. I love the soft, gentle feel it has, very different from high energy [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]- how I love thee. Newest to the list. I think it has the sweet gentle vintage charm of [name_f]Cora[/name_f], but the length and elegance of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. The thing I’m worried about is that it will be white noise among all the other [name_f]Addy[/name_f] names.
Middle Name Options-
[name_f]Kate[/name_f] (not crazy about it)
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] (love with [name_f]Cora[/name_f])
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_u]June[/name_u] (also love with [name_f]Cora[/name_f])
Or any of the first name options.
I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] ([name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u]) or [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Cora[/name_f] (combined meaning ‘noble maiden’), but can’t find a middle for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
First names are set in stone but you can add any middle you think sounds good, doesn’t have to be from the list!
Boys option is [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]
My vote’s still on [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]'s a close second. I love [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f], it’s perfect. Other options…
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is my favourite. Spunky and sweet with both vintage charm and a modern feel. I think it’s a perfect, versatile name and would likely use it myself if it weren’t so popular here.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is perf and I also adore the idea of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].
I have been following along with your threads but I haven’t gotten a chance to post until now.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is NOT a “hooker” name. Yes, it is less “sweet” than [name_f]Cora[/name_f] but it is gorgeous! It has spunk to it and I love it.
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] is nice. But I agree it seems a bit “boring” to me because of the typical soft soft and -a ending. It blends in more with the [name_f]Cara[/name_f]'s, [name_f]Nora[/name_f]'s, [name_u]Cory[/name_u]'s… and the million other 4 letter names that end in A for girls.
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] is a beautiful name. When I saw you added this as an option to your [name_f]Cora[/name_f]/[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] debate, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. I have been studying the SSA baby name list for 2014 (actually, I’ve been through every Top 1000 girl name and examined what ones fell and climb the most) and [name_m]Ad[/name_m]- names for girls are skyrocketing in all forms ([name_f]Adalyn[/name_f] up 26 places, [name_f]Adalynn[/name_f] up 45 places, [name_f]Adelynn[/name_f] up 64 places, [name_f]Ada[/name_f] up 54 places, [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] up 86, [name_f]Addilyn[/name_f] up 93… etc). Obviously popularity is no everything (as [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] adn [name_f]Cora[/name_f] are popular by themselves) but it will blend in with all of these [name_f]Addy[/name_f] names, no doubt.
My vote is (and has been) for [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. It fits in wonderfully with [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and you get to be creative when it comes to the nickname, which I love. But yet, it also doesn’t need a nickname either, which I also love. It was one of my top names for quite awhile and I still love it.
I think [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] is great and definitely don’t see “hooker” at all so much as classy/spunky/girly fun. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] are both pretty but don’t do as much for me. It’s probably been suggested already, but [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] or [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] might be alternatives if [name_f]Cora[/name_f]'s seeming too short, or longer “ora” names like [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] or [name_f]Lenora[/name_f]. However, if you’re set on one of the three (they’re all nice, can’t go wrong) my vote is on [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]!
I like [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] best, but there are going to be so many [name_f]Addie[/name_f]'s out there that I would either plan on using her full name always or come up with an alternate nn that you use from the start. I have a friend named [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] who has never been anything but [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. [name_f]Lina[/name_f] is nice, but I prefer [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] over any [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] nicknames. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Justine[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Helene[/name_f] are three middles I like that work well together to my ears.
I really like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. Hookers have all kinds of names so you can’t be too concerned about that. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Elouise[/name_f] sound great to me.
My favourite is [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] [name_f]Cora[/name_f] - don’t let the possibility of [name_f]Addie[/name_f] as a nn bother you. If I had an [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] her nn would [name_f]Della[/name_f].
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] is my second favourite; I don’t really like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] (mostly because of the first syllable) but my favourite combo is [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
I think I change my mind every time you post. Lol! I would definitely drop [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]. It is beautiful, but there are tons of [name_f]Addie[/name_f]'s. However, you could use the full [name_f]Adeline[/name_f].
I think it’s still almost a dead tie between [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. Im still leaning toward [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]. I still detest [name_u]Scout[/name_u]. If [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] were used in full form, she might get my vote. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Lou[/name_u] is adorable!
I’ve been following along as well! I think I was team [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] at first but have recently switched to [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. With the addition of [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] I agree that it may get a little lost in the popularity of the [name_m]Add[/name_m]- names, though I also think you can totally avoid the nn [name_f]Addie[/name_f]. I work in a school and I know a lot of little Maddies/[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]'s/[name_u]Madison[/name_u]'s (various spellings) and the ones who go by [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]/[name_u]Madison[/name_u] strictly go by that and it’s known that they are not [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. I’m sure [name_f]Addie[/name_f]/[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]/[name_u]Addison[/name_u]'s would be the same way. Are you pronouncing [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] like [name_m]Add[/name_m]-a-line? or [name_m]Add[/name_m]-a-lyn? With all that being said, I still like [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. I don’t think it’s too short and [name_u]Jameson[/name_u] and [name_f]Cora[/name_f] give me a sort of a cool western vibe. I think you said it best on one of your other threads when you said that [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] had gotten the most votes but you couldn’t let go of [name_f]Cora[/name_f].
All in all, I really don’t think you need to choose just yet. You’re not pg yet (that we know of! :D) and 9 months is a long time to make a decision about a name and you may change your mind several times before she’s here (Or maybe it’ll be another little boy and you’ll use darling [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]) I know you want to use the baby’s name as soon as you can for [name_u]Jem[/name_u]'s sake, but it also shouldn’t cause you stress
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is perfect
I also love [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] - nn [name_f]Letty[/name_f] is so cute
I am a fan of [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]:
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (I think it works better than [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and sounds good in the sib set)
Scarelett [name_f]Adaline[/name_f] (I agree with previous posters)
Other thoughts what if you combined two favorites in [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]? [name_f]Coraline[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] perhapse?
I think the reason I’m so antsy to have a name set is because, first of all I have our boys name ready to go. Second of all, they are such lovely choices that have been forever looming over my head! I feel like it is time to just pick one so they stop ‘tormenting’ me haha. Third, my family is extremely ‘in’ (or they try to be) on the naming process. When we announce we are pregnant it will be a free for all suggesting names, saying why they hate names, etc. They single handed-ly destroyed our love for [name_m]Declan[/name_m], And half of them know our options for girls. I want to be able to say we already have chosen a name so that there is no further discussion. I want to be resolved so that they won’t change my mind!
We’ve thought about all the possible ways to get to [name_f]Cora[/name_f], and it is definitely [name_f]Cora[/name_f] or nothing as far as variations go, but thank you all for the lovely suggestions.
I’m still just pondering the options. What do you all do to sort through names? I say them out loud or in context… “[name_u]Jameson[/name_u], be nice to [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].” “[name_f]Cora[/name_f], could you go tell [name_u]Jem[/name_u] it’s dinner time?” “[name_f]Adeline[/name_f], [name_u]Jameson[/name_u], let’s go!”
Also, I pronounce it [name_m]Ad[/name_m]-uh-line.
My husband is probably mostly team [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] right now, though he loves them all and would be fine with whatever I wanted.
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Elouise[/name_f] (sounds less ‘l’ heavy than [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f])
[name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] [name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
