[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all! We’re expecting our first child - a girl - and need some help deciding what to name her. Surname starts with a vowel and ends in a -lee sound, and perhaps because of this we see that there are several names on our list that end in a consonant sound.
Nicknames aren’t a concern at this point, if one arises organically that’s fine but we aren’t really looking at nickname potential. What we’ve got so far, in no particular order:
Current favourites for the both of us are [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] but don’t think he’ll ever be quite as much into it as I am.
I know they’re all classic, ‘safe’ (some might say boring) names, but we’d appreciate your input as well as any suggestions you might have! [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] are already taken by relatives or friends and thus out of the race.
Charlotte [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is delightful! I also really like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f]!
You might like [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Phillipa[/name_f], [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
Hello as a fellow [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] myself, I’ve yet to meet anyone say a bad word about the name. When I was younger I was a [name_f]Lottie[/name_f] and now I go by [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].
You’ve got some great names on your list, not boring at all. I’m going to break your names down into groups to help me think about them…
Charlotte, [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] are classics that feel timeless. I love all these names but I love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] the most because they feel the most… current? [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] feels a bit stiff next to your other picks but she does have tons of nickname options. [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] could also be great middle names! Suggestions in this category…
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
Imogen, [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] are sweet and vintage feeling. [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] are my favorites. Suggestions in this category…
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f] or [name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]
Iris, [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f] are short, spunky and sweet. I love all these names! [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] in particular feels so versatile but not too common. More suggestions…
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Liv[/name_f]
Elizabeth [name_f]Iris[/name_f] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are my favorites of your top combos!
I also like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f], and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
Eleanor and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] are both on my shortlist so obviously I love those
I’m also really liking [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] at the moment as well.
Less keen on [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] just because people seem to automatically pick a random nickname with names like this and call you by that instead of your actual name (my name is [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and this happens to me a lot).
I really love [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], & [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] from your list. While all three are popular, I would consider each one timeless and personally I never tire of hearing them. I really love the combination of [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] [name_f]Faye[/name_f]. Very elegant yet chic. These are a few middles that came to mind for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] & [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].
Wow, thank you all for the feedback! Lots of great suggestions too - particularly liking [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]! A few have actually been on our list at some point but were crossed out. Now to try out some of these and make a few more combinations!
As many of you pointed out, I think one of the main reasons why we are leaning towards well-established names like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is that they could fit a woman of any age, from a little baby to an old lady, plus there’s no shortage of nicknames should she choose to go by one.
At any rate it’s very nice to get reassurance that classic, perhaps unimaginative names also get some love
I think [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is a lush and interesting name. At this time, it gives a nod to the states’ increasing influence on the national scene.
My favs are [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f] and [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]! All the names you have picked out are so cute!
Charlotte [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] is gorgeous, this is my favourite there’s nothing wrong with classic, I think you’re options are classic but also unexpected when combined with your middle names. Not a massive fan of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] myself, it’s a bit too traditional in a royalist sort of way for me, I find it quite heavy in sound and feel. I prefer [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], which I think would really work for you guys too. [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], although it has a royal link too, is still a bit more youthful somehow and fresh. [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] is classic but quirky as well, perhaps if you have a boy one day you could go for [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m], which I think is just gorgeous on baby boys
