We are expecting a baby girl later this month! We gravitate to classic, timeless names. Last name is 3 syllables, starts with a C and ends in a Y (like currently). For these reasons, we are staying away from names starting with C or ending in Y (we like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], for example, but it didn’t flow as well).
We like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] nm [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nm Elle/Ella. We thought we loved [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but I’m getting hung up on whether the nm [name_f]Elle[/name_f] (what if people call her Ellie?) sounds too much like my name, [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], which is why I also list a nm option as [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. Other names we considered include [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Isabel[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f].
We like shorter (1 or 2 syllable) middle names, especially if we pick [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. I like the idea of pairing a more modern mn with a classic first. Think [name_u]Blair[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Parker[/name_u].
Any ideas? Any comments on whether an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nicknamed [name_f]Elle[/name_f] would be odd with a mom named [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]? [name_f]My[/name_f] mom is named [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and never once did I think they rhymed, but she goes by a different nm. Any help is appreciated!
I feel like you can’t go wrong with any of your names. There are some I like better than others, but definitely all are classical beautiful.
I agree that [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] & [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] are a bit rhymey, but [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] and [name_f]Elle[/name_f] don’t. They are close, so it’ll just depend on if you thing it’ll get hard to hear them called across a room and distinguish them, if that will bother you. [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f], get a little hard to say together in the same way, so you’ll just have to think about it.
I adore [name_f]Anna[/name_f]. It’s gorgeous. I also like [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] a lot. The others aren’t high on my list, but they aren’t bad names at all. I think [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_u]Parker[/name_u] is a gorgeous combo, and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] is really cool. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Paige[/name_f] is pretty.
Thank you! I wasn’t worried about the flow of my name to our daughter’s when said aloud (I didn’t even consider how my husband’s sounds next to any of these come to think of it). I was mainly concerned if [name_f]Elle[/name_f] sounded too close to mine or even if it does, if it even mattered. I really appreciate the input!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Anna[/name_f] for you. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is what I would suggest. It seems you really love it, and I can imagine pairs perfectly with your surname. While [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] doesn’t fit the modern name you mentioned, I love that it honors your Mother. I love using a family name as it brings meaning to a name, rather than just “good flow”.
I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a fn a lot. One of my personal favorites. I like nicknames [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elle[/name_f], [name_f]Beth[/name_f] and my very favorite, [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. Using [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as a first name, I would pair it with a modem middle. I love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u]. [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_u]Hayes[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u] are lovely with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I do love the name [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. So timeless and elegant. I prefer [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], especially with the alliteration of your surname. I can imagine written together; it looks very beautiful. But it seems you prefer [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], which very naturally gives the nickname [name_f]Kate[/name_f] which you love. Would you consider giving her either your middle name or another name that share the same first letter so that you and your daughter share the same initials? I’ve always thought it was both sweet and clever when families choose to honor with matching initials.
Other names that come to mind: [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f].
You have really beautiful name options and can’t go wrong with any of them! [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I do think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] are a bit close, but you don’t know that [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] will even be a nickname for her if you choose [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. If you don’t want to chance it, I would suggest [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
Wow, you have excellent names on your list! They would all serve a daughter equally well throughout her lifetime!
If [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the one you truly love, that’s what you should use. I think [name_f]Elle[/name_f] is a nice nickname, and not weirdly close to [name_u]Kelly[/name_u]. I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u].
You said, “Any ideas?” and I’m guessing you’re referring to other short, modernish middles to potentially go with [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. If that’s the case, here are some suggestions:
I don’t think an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] nn [name_f]Elle[/name_f] would be odd with [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] as a mum - [name_f]Elly[/name_f] and [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] might be matchy, but then, sometimes kids have exactly the same name as one of their parents, so it’s not a big deal
I also really like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]! [name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] too!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] the idea of [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u] for you!
I do think Elle/Ellie and [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] are a bit of a mouthful. I’m imagining a friend or relative saying ‘Kelly and Elle’ in a sentence and personally I think I’d trip over it at times.
I love that [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] connects to your mother but also really like your suggestion of a more modern middle to complement the classic first name. Could you do an extra middle, something like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_u]Blair[/name_u] ‘Kate’? That way, you get the honour, both styles of names, and avoid the Ellie/Kelly issue.
I love either [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] or [name_f]Beth[/name_f] as an alternative nn to [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] ‘Kate’ and [name_f]Anna[/name_f] best. I also like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but personally prefer the non [name_f]El[/name_f]- nickname options since [name_f]El[/name_f]- names/Ellie as a nn are trending pretty hard at the moment. I don’t think [name_f]Elle[/name_f] and [name_u]Kelly[/name_u] are automatically too close to use but it would be a good idea to test if you get mixed up hearing them across the house/in a crowded area/etc.
