Help narrow down my B names!

I love all three of these Br- names a lot, but I think in real life I can only have one. Which do you prefer - [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], or [name_f]Briar[/name_f]? Would be a little sister to top choice [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f], which is pronounced hroz-wen. (I’ve had some mistaken pronunciations before on this site so just clarifying that it’s not rose-wen).

In general, I like the subtle nature connection of [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] & [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] or [name_f]Briar[/name_f], but I also like how [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is a different style/not matchy…basically I love all three.

Specific thoughts:

[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u] the sound and image. The spelling bothers me, because I think people expect [name_f]Briony[/name_f]? And with Ys being trendy…I don’t know, someone talk me down! [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] is the original spelling, but could it be mistaken for being made up? Is it just “[name_m]Brian[/name_m] with a Y?”

[name_f]Briar[/name_f]: Like the sound, feels soft and heavy at the same time to me. I don’t necessarily hear [name_m]Brian[/name_m] when I say [name_f]Briar[/name_f], but I can see how it could be mistaken, especially when written down - like if someone writes their r’s a bit flowy. But I know a lot of great Brians, so it’s not the worst thing ever. The Disney reference does get to me, as I wouldn’t want her to become fixated on the princess, or people to think I named her from Disney.

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]: [name_u]Love[/name_u] the meaning and strong, heavy sound. To me it’s sweet and commanding at the same time - something I try to look for. But it’s quite different from my other choices, it definitely feels more common or plain. My list generally feels more modern than vintage, does [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] fit in? I loathe the nickname [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], but is that common? I can’t imagine little school kids coming up with [name_f]Birdie[/name_f], but maybe I’m wrong.

[name_f]Do[/name_f] any of these have nicknames I’m missing? I don’t generally like nicknames, but I imagine [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] could be [name_f]Roz[/name_f], which is fine…but just want to make sure I’m not missing anything beyond Bry or [name_m]Bridge[/name_m] (also fine).

I’m Canadian, DH is Welsh, [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] is Welsh, do either of these fit better with the family in terms of culture? [name_f]Do[/name_f] any not fit in because of this?

So mostly just little nitpicky things, I think they’re all fantastic names. However, I wouldn’t use more than one - so please let me know your thoughts.

Bump  got lost waiting to be approved by a mod? When did that start?

[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]: I really like this name although I do prefer the [name_f]Briony[/name_f] spelling as i’m not a fan of y’s even if it’s the original spelling. For me, [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] looks a bit more masculine and [name_f]Briony[/name_f] adds a touch of girlishness to it. Also I never thought of [name_m]Brian[/name_m]-y when I say the name and I still don’t. They’re completely separate names to me. I’m more inclined to always use the original spelling but this would be the exception for me.

[name_f]Briar[/name_f]: I like this name also but to me it seems a bit trendy at the moment. Also never heard [name_m]Brian[/name_m] when saying it. I really don’t think the Disney reference should be an issue, most references will be soon forgotten.

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]: This is the winner for me. I love the name [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and I don’t think it is at all plain or even common. I do consider [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] a bit vintage but it has been quite under the radar as of late so I think the name is more refreshing if anything.

I would leave out [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], personally. It’s lovely, but I just love [name_f]Briar[/name_f] and [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] even more.

[name_f]Bryony[/name_f] and [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] together sound best, imo…

I think with [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f], [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] would go best… if you’re looking for them to blend well together.

Otherwise, I like [name_f]Briar[/name_f] the best.

[name_f]Bryony[/name_f] and [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f]!

[name_f]Bryony[/name_f] fits the best with [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] imo. My second choice would be [name_f]Briar[/name_f]. I think it would be fine, as long as you didn’t give her [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for a middle name :stuck_out_tongue:

Your name taste is after my own heart. I adore all these names, and just generally love names beginning with Br and R and ending in wen!

Firstly, any of those would go really well with [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f]. No wrong choices there!

I love [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] spelt with the y, a warm, sweet name with overlays of nature and a quiet depth about it. [name_f]Briar[/name_f] has the same overlays but with a more quirky and upbeat feel. [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] has just as you said an interesting combination of sweetness and strength. I love its long history and tradition, its femininity combined with strength. I know a lovely little [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Biddy[/name_f]. Some relatives also call her [name_f]Bibi[/name_f], though she is [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] when written and outside the home. Other nicknames used for [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] are [name_f]Bridie[/name_f] and [name_f]Bree[/name_f]. Biddy is a lovely character in Great Expectations.

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is my favourite I think.

[name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] could be given Wen, [name_u]Ren[/name_u]/Rhen or Wenna for a nickname.

[name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] and [name_f]Bryony[/name_f]/[name_f]Briony[/name_f] are wonderful together! I think I prefer the -i- spelling myself, but it’s a beautiful name.

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] and [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] are both gorgeous too though - I just think [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] fits so perfectly with [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f]!

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is my favourite

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is my favorite followed by [name_f]Briar[/name_f].

I love both [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] and [name_f]Briar[/name_f], and I’m afraid I don’t see the appeal of [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] at all.

I prefer [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] spelled with the y. It’s the spelling I’m most familiar with, and I think the [name_f]Briony[/name_f] spelling looks very odd, if I’m being honest. [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] seems very British to me, I don’t know why, but I think with a Welsh husband that’s absolutely fine (it would be fine anyway). This is my favourite with [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f].

I, personally, have never associated [name_f]Briar[/name_f] with Sleeping Beauty. Maybe its because I was never really that much of a Disney fan, even as a child, and I have only actually seen Sleeping Beauty once in my whole life. It may also be because I went to school with a [name_f]Briar[/name_f].

Neither name reminds me of [name_m]Brian[/name_m].

[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] is my fav

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] is my favorite! Followed by [name_f]Bryony[/name_f]! I think that they both go really well with [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] too. I’ve never been a fan of [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] though.

I know that you don’t like [name_f]Briar[/name_f]'s fairytale connection but it just adds to it for me. It adds another layer of whimsy and magic imo. Though I’m a sucker for anything fairytale so I’m biased! I don’t think it would be a big deal though.

[name_f]Briar[/name_f] is my favorite.

I’m a [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] and I love my name so obviously I’m biased and would vote for that one haha, but I actually think that [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] sounds best with [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f]! [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is great too though.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] to help you out with possible nickname options for [name_f]Bridget[/name_f], I usually get [name_f]Bee[/name_f], [name_m]Bridge[/name_m], or [name_f]Bridgie[/name_f], but I’ve also gotten [name_f]Bree[/name_f] a few times. I’ve never once been called [name_f]Birdie[/name_f] but I quite like it and think it works.

I love [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] and [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] together the most, and [name_f]Briar[/name_f] is a close second. [name_m]Brian[/name_m]-y never came to mind with the name [name_f]Bryony[/name_f]. Although, I do prefer the spelling [name_f]Briony[/name_f] (but [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] isn’t bad either). [name_f]Bridget[/name_f] just doesn’t seem to match with [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] well at all, in my opinion.

I have always loved [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] and love the symmetry of the 2 'y’s. As [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f] and [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] / [name_f]Briony[/name_f] are Celtic names they go together very well.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] them as a sibset.

I agree [name_f]Bryony[/name_f] is a must to go with big sister [name_f]Rhoswen[/name_f]. Who cares what people think about the spelling. These two just go together so well!
