Help needed! Sister for Louis

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!

We’re team green but have always had trouble deciding on girls names. When we had our son my DH was set on the name [name_m]Louis[/name_m] but if he’d been a girl we had a shortlist - [name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] ([name_f]Ellie[/name_f]), [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] (?[name_f]Maddie[/name_f] or [name_f]Lena[/name_f]) or [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] (?[name_u]Allie[/name_u] or no nn). Since then someone in the family has used [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and we’ve added [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] ([name_f]Ellie[/name_f]) to our list (we like it but it doesn’t seem to get much love online…). I’ve also suggested [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] ([name_f]Evie[/name_f]) and hubby has come up with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] ([name_u]Georgie[/name_u]). Nicknames options are important to DH and he likes the nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] but has vetoed [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elena[/name_f] etc. We also like the idea of honoring a grandparent with the mn as we did for our son, which would give us options like [name_f]Mary[/name_f], [name_f]Ann[/name_f], [name_f]Lilian[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] ->[name_f]Margot[/name_f]. If no. 2 is a boy our front runner is [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. I think we have a liking for names with a bit of french flair and would like something that goes well with [name_m]Louis[/name_m]. Our surname is similar to [name_m]Watson[/name_m].

Please let us know what you think of our shortlist and if you have any other ideas or suggestions that would be great!

I love [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]!! [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] or [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] would be stunning!
I also really like [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]! [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]?

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] combinations! It’s great to have fresh eyes on our list

[name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought, do you think it would be a problem having a [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and a [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]? We avoided [name_m]George[/name_m] for a boy because DS is three months older than [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and we didn’t want to look like we were copying the royals …

My first thought was [name_f]Claire[/name_f] reading the title but since you might be using it as a middle I see why you would not use [name_f]Claire[/name_f] as a first. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my favourite from your list and I would second [name_f]Clara[/name_f].

Some more ideas:
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f] (but I guess you would not like to use this because of the mn potential of [name_f]Mary[/name_f])
[name_f]Cecile[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]!
Have you considered [name_f]Eliana[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Stella[/name_f], [name_f]Helena[/name_f], [name_f]Elora[/name_f], [name_f]Geneva[/name_f] (nn [name_f]Eva[/name_f], [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]).

[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] works beautifully with [name_m]Louis[/name_m], imo. Maybe [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Ann[/name_f] or [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]?

[name_m]Louis[/name_m] [name_m]Charles[/name_m] & _________

[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] Clairce
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Jolie[/name_f] [name_f]Annelise[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Clarice[/name_f]
[name_f]Raquel[/name_f] [name_f]Margurite[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Colette[/name_f] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] “[name_f]Etta[/name_f]”
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f] [name_f]Mariel[/name_f] “[name_f]Etta[/name_f]”

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

[name_m]Louis[/name_m] is nice, & [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] is perfect for a brother.

Here are my thoughts for a girl:

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]-This is beautiful. It’s great w/[name_m]Louis[/name_m]. I really dislike [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] though. It just seems dated & sort of bratty to me. What about the nn [name_f]Maisy[/name_f]?

[name_f]Alice[/name_f]-This is sweet & nice w/[name_m]Louis[/name_m]. I don’t care for [name_u]Allie[/name_u] though. Kind of 90s like [name_f]Maddie[/name_f].

[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]-I like it! A nice [name_m]French[/name_m] flair, & the nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is cute. I like [name_f]Essie[/name_f] too.

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]-I like it okay. I don’t love it, but I think it’s for personal reasons. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] is darling, however.

[name_f]Georgia[/name_f]-I don’t love it, but it’s nice enough. I kind of prefer [name_f]Georgina[/name_f] or [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f]. [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] is adorable. [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] is also a cute nn option.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

I adore [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]!!! It’s so beautiful and has lots of potential nicknames which is always so fun to have options to chose from later in life. I also really like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]. Though [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] being a feminization if [name_m]George[/name_m] it does seem a bit royal family paired with your son’s name…
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] or [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] are breathtaking.
[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is beautiful as well. [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] would be a cute nickname.

What a lovely description!
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] was used by my husband’s cousin (I think, not exactly sure) when they had their daughter but they live interstate and we don’t ever see them. I think he’s still be happy to use it, it was his favourite pick for our first, I’m just not 100% sure its the one…

[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Margot[/name_f] – love this combination, would just need to convince DH who seems to really like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] in that middle spot. It does worry me though having a name starting with E followed by [name_f]Claire[/name_f] -> éclair?

[name_f]Alice[/name_f] – I love this classic name but agree I don’t love [name_u]Allie[/name_u] – but being too syllables I don’t think it necessarily needs a nn?

[name_f]Georgia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] – really love this combo too, the royal association is still a bit of a worry for me though… Glad people like it as a pairing with [name_m]Louis[/name_m] because I wasn’t sure it was a match

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] – still like this one but we’re concerned pronunciation will be an issue as it has been with [name_m]Louis[/name_m] and I don’t really like [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] which I think will be the inevitable shortening. I’ve considered [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Elise[/name_f] and calling them [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] for short based on the initials but not sure it would stick.

[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] – I’m still not decided on this one, I like it but not sure if it will sound a bit out of place in Aus. [name_u]Love[/name_u] the nn [name_f]Evie[/name_f] but I think it will probably be shortened to ‘[name_f]Gen[/name_f]’.

DH has already said no to a few of the other suggestions but there’s a few new ideas for us to talk about.
I really appreciate everyone giving their opinions!

I worry about the reaction to our name choices, especially after the negative response we got after naming our first (mostly from DH side, which was interesting given he picked the name). However I know the most important thing is we love it as we’re going to say it everyday

[name_m]Just[/name_m] realised [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] has a really lovely meaning - star bright

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think this combo works?

[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is very cute! I also like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] will get [name_f]Gen[/name_f] if you use [name_f]Evie[/name_f], but [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] might be inevitable.

Other ideas

[name_f]Colette[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lettie[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]

[name_f]Estelle[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is magnificent! So beautiful… I love [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. It doesn’t need a nickname, but if you really want one, what about [name_f]Lissie[/name_f]? [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] are stunning names. I like [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_m]Louis[/name_m] for siblings. I wouldn’t worry about being similar to the royal family children’s names. Specially because it’s not a bad association.
