[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I’m looking for a name that’s related with the ocean or water. I’ve been getting some recommendations, but I still can’t seem to find one that sounds really right to me.
I don’t want the name to be too out there that it’d be awkward to say the name out loud in a Starbucks shop (or for the worker not to have the faintest idea how to spell it). I also don’t want raised eyebrows whenever the name is introduced:(
Here are all of the names that were recommended! Some of them I don’t really like, and some of them are just ok to me. If you think any of these names sounds ok, please let me know!
One of my all time favorite names is [name_f]Maren[/name_f]. [name_f]Mara[/name_f] or Mhara is Irish for sea. A fun name I’ve never seen used but that appeals to me is Selkie.
I love [name_f]Marina[/name_f]! I also want to second [name_f]Maren[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], and suggest [name_u]Brooke[/name_u], [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] (means “island of apples” so might be a bit of a stretch), [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] (Latin for the river Sverne) and [name_f]Isla[/name_f] (means “island”, again might be a bit of a stretch).
I’ll add
[name_f]Aeronwy[/name_f] - Welsh, meaning ‘the [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_u]Aeron[/name_u]’

Kelpie - Scottish, a type of water spirit
[name_u]Laine[/name_u] - Finish and Estonian, ‘wave’
Muriel - form of Muirgel, ‘bright sea’
[name_f]Nerida[/name_f] - similar to [name_f]Nereida[/name_f], which has been mentioned, but is also said to mean “water lily” in an indigenous Australian language (I’m not sure which language, unfortunately)
[name_f]Nixie[/name_f] - a type of water spirit from Germanic mythologies
Niniane/[name_f]Nimue[/name_f]/[name_u]Vivien[/name_u]/[name_f]Viviane[/name_f] - the name of the Lady of the [name_u]Lake[/name_u] in a different Arthurian texts

Tasman
[name_u]Teal[/name_u]
Liffey
= the river that flows through [name_m]Dublin[/name_m]
= and also the protagonist’s name in [name_f]Faye[/name_f] [name_m]Weldon[/name_m]’s novel Puffball (which is kinda sorta about pregnancy)
I thought of Airlie which is misleading but it’s a beach in Australia, I just think it’s a beautiful name.
