Help please! Husband likes Layton; need some suggestions

We found out we’re having a boy and so excited except I have a more difficult time with names for boys. My husband has always loved [name]Layton[/name] for a boy. I don’t have a strong preference for a name, but I am not sure I’m completely settled on [name]Layton[/name] as my son’s name. His surname is pronounced like “wolf”

I love the middle name of [name]Blaine[/name]. I also somewhat like [name]Samuel[/name] for a first name, but again, i just don’t feel I’ve found the right name yet. [name]Samuel[/name] is nice and classic, biblical, but we are not overly religious so I’m not sure… I THINK I am leaning more toward [name]Layton[/name] but am still open to other names as well.

I think our preference is more of an unusual, modern-style name but is not so bizarre that it couldn’t be considered an old/established/classic - We also considered [name]Caleb[/name] but ruled it out for popularity, as well as [name]Weiland[/name] (we decided sounds too much like Wailing [name]Wolf[/name].) lol. I also like [name]Milo[/name] but husband hates it.

**[name]Do[/name] you have any distinguished suggestions?
**What is the impression that comes to your mind when you hear the name [name]Layton[/name]?

[name]Layton[/name], this spelling, is very masculine. I love it. My only suggestion would be [name]Leland[/name].

I like [name]Layton[/name] a bit. It’s not my favorite name, but it’s not bad either, just NMS.

Here’s some others you might like:

[name]Ashton[/name]
[name]Landon[/name]
[name]Easton[/name]
[name]Sheldon[/name]
[name]Trevor[/name]
[name]Lindon[/name]
[name]Lincoln[/name]
[name]Roman[/name]
[name]Tanner[/name]
[name]Harrison[/name]

Those sort of have the same feel as [name]Layton[/name] to me.

I love the suggestion of [name]Leland[/name] above, and I was also going to suggest [name]Landon[/name]. My problem with [name]Layton[/name] is that “t” in the middle. Not sure where you’re from, but in the States that could get pronounced either in the back of the throat or on the tip of the tongue, both sounding different. It would bother me that it could be pronounced different ways all the time, and that is the reason why I’ll never use the name [name]Brent[/name] with the same t problem. [name]Layton[/name] looks nice written out, but I personally wouldn’t use it. What about [name]Braxton[/name]?

[name]Keaton[/name] was what first came to mind. (kee-ton).I just don’t care for [name]Layton[/name] - I don’t like Y’s, they feel overly trendy to me and I don’t care for the “lay” bit, either. I think [name]Leland[/name] is nice, I like that suggestion - [name]Auden[/name] also came to mind.

[name]Samuel[/name] doesn’t give me religious overtones when I hear it, honestly. Yes, it’s biblical, but it’s been around for such a long time that there are other associations, too. My son is [name]Caleb[/name] (and your definitely right about the popularity!) and that’s a biblical name, too, and I don’t get religious vibes off that, either.

I have found layton to be taken over for a girls name. Although they tend to spell it [name]Leighton[/name].

[name]Lachlan[/name]
[name]Les[/name]
[name]Lorcan[/name]
[name]Lander[/name]
[name]Lars[/name]
[name]Larson[/name]
[name]Locke[/name]
[name]Lael[/name]
[name]Laurence[/name]
[name]Landen[/name]
[name]Langston[/name]
[name]Lucien[/name]
[name]Lincoln[/name]
[name]Levon[/name]

Thanks for the advice! We actually pronounce it [name]Lay[/name]-tun. The “t” is not overly emphasized if that makes sense. I used to dislike it for some of the same reasons listed here. I’m not particularly fond of y’s in the middle of names either… it gives the impression of trendy/ made-up and childish, even if that is actually the correct spelling of the name and it is the masculine way… hmmm. Some other comments I have received that made me second guess it is that several people have told me it sounds “snooty” and preppy. I don’t mind if it sounds “preppy” and I am on the fence about whether I can deal with the “look” of the name on paper and the fact that it is growing popular for girls too.

I will definitely discuss [name]Leland[/name] with him. That may be one that nicely combines the styles of [name]Weiland[/name] and [name]Layton[/name], although I don’t find it to be as masculine as either of those names. It has a softer, flowing, classic rhythm that I like similar to [name]Walker[/name], [name]Lincoln[/name], etc.

[name]Samuel[/name] and [name]Caleb[/name] have always been my second and third choices. Everyone seems to like these names, but with these I am not really sure if I love either of them enough to get over the popularity of them KWIM? I think I actually prefer the unique ones.

Others people suggested that I like ok are [name]Lindon[/name], [name]Auden[/name], and [name]Langston[/name].

Does anyone have any middle name suggestions? Would [name]Blaine[/name] work in the middle?

What about :

[name]Lawson[/name]
[name]Lennox[/name]
[name]Lance[/name]
[name]Sullivan[/name]
[name]Sawyer[/name]
