I am currently 31 weeks and 5 days pregnant with my baby boy who’s name I am so so in love with. It’s [name_m]Liam[/name_m].
Its so so popular although I may be delusional in estimating how popular it is since I have never known a [name_m]Liam[/name_m] personally. His whole name will be [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thompson[/name_m]. Both of my other daughter’s have 2 middle names also…
Can you brilliant name experts help me think of any names that are like [name_m]Liam[/name_m] that are less popular.
These are the ones I am still considering but cannot commit to because I am so in love with [name_m]Liam[/name_m]…
I would appreciate any advice. Also if you have any other ideas for the second middle name [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] I am not 100% committed to it. I would love to hear them.
Thank you

What about [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Koa[/name_m] [name_m]Thompson[/name_m]? The nickname can be [name_m]Liam[/name_m] right? If you aren’t sure about [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] you can choose another W name [name_m]William[/name_m] as first name and can choose a second middle name from your list. My pick is [name_m]Koa[/name_m], because I like the flow. My second pic would be [name_m]Kian[/name_m] - [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Kian[/name_m].
I second the idea of using [name_m]William[/name_m] as the formal name as well. I do know of several boys named [name_m]Liam[/name_m] (including an expecting family who is choosing the name for their baby), but popularity isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
I’m not sure I love [name_m]William[/name_m]. It is a very handsome Boy’s name and it is very classic and I definitely think it passes the age test. The problem is I don’t like [name_m]Will[/name_m] or [name_u]Willie[/name_u] and if I only want [name_m]Liam[/name_m] why go with the long formal name instead.
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] is the only name my 11 year old daughter has liked that I have suggested.
The name that my SO now ex wanted initially wanted and was so so set on and it was originally going to be was [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] [name_m]Arthur[/name_m]…
Let me explain I am really into astrology and my birthday is [name_u]August[/name_u] 3rd. My due date is [name_u]July[/name_u] 31st…([name_m]Leo[/name_m]) its a fire sign. [name_m]Liam[/name_m] () it means resolute protector like a lion…fiery name right? I love the name [name_m]Leo[/name_m] too but no long forms of it. I also think he might try to steal my birthday (”)
[name_u]Dylan[/name_u] means son of the sea…as does my exes last name Simmons…so water name…really only in the event he would be born before the 22nd in which case he would be a Cancer (water sign)…
Ugh how does having a popular name affect people that have them…my name is [name_f]Molly[/name_f] I never had to worry about such things…thank you for reading this and responding. I very much value all the help I can get☺

Seriously, just use [name_m]Liam[/name_m] if that’s the name you love! It sounds like nothing else compares to it for you, plus it has all sorts of special meaning to you, plus it sounds very handsome with the middle names you’ve chosen and his surname.
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] is quite popular nationally (in the US), but there are many pockets of regional popularity which mean that it may be less popular than you think where you are, and other names that are much further down the “official” popularity charts might actually crop up more around you. [name_m]How[/name_m] would you feel if you went with a less popular second choice name - say [name_m]Callum[/name_m] - and your [name_m]Callum[/name_m] ended up in a class with two other Callums, a [name_m]Callan[/name_m] and no Liams? I’m guessing you’d be pretty annoyed and probably even quite upset, because you’d have eschewed your favourite name for one that you don’t love as much, and all for nothing. There is no way of predicting how many kids you’ll meet or know with a particular name - it’s really just chance. I truly believe that the only way to avoid regrets is to use your absolute favourite name, even if it is statistically more popular than you’d like.
A word on popularity (and this gets said a lot on here, but it’s true and important to bear in mind if you’re fretting over popularity): “popular” names in 2017 are nowhere near as popular as the most popular names when we were born, or when our parents and grandparents are born. The percentage of babies given the top names every year is tiny now compared to thirty or fifty years ago. To give an example, [name_u]Noah[/name_u] was the most popular boy’s name in the US last year, but it was given to less than 1% of boys born that year. [name_m]Liam[/name_m], at no. 2, was given to only 0.9% of baby boys born. That’s less than 1 [name_m]Liam[/name_m] per 100 boy babies, so in a class of thirty or so, only about half of whom will be boys, you’d be unlucky to get another [name_m]Liam[/name_m], let alone two or three or more. Compare that to the no. 2 name in 1965, [name_m]John[/name_m], which was given to 3.8% of all baby boys born - almost 1 [name_m]John[/name_m] for every 25 baby boys.
“Popular” names now really are so much less common than they were a generation ago; I really don’t think you should let the stats put you off if you truly feel that [name_m]Liam[/name_m] is the one for your little boy.
Have you thought about using a longer more obscure name (like [name_m]Eliam[/name_m] or [name_m]Quilliam[/name_m]) that contains [name_m]Liam[/name_m]? That way you can use [name_m]Liam[/name_m] on a daily basis, but he’ll always have a back-up that’s unique.
I don’t know any [name_m]Liam[/name_m]'s. And I don’t hear the name often. I don’t think it’s that common. I feel like it would be fine for you to use - especially if you love it so much.
i think you should go with [name_m]Liam[/name_m], regardless of popularity. It sounds like you are really in love with it and it has significance for you. It is a beautiful name.
[name_f]Katinka[/name_f] is right, the percentages do make a difference! [name_m]Liam[/name_m] at #2 for 2016 is about as popular as [name_u]Cody[/name_u] at #24 in 1991. He might meet a few other Liams, but it probably won’t be the same as being named [name_u]Michael[/name_u] 25 years ago.
However, I should note that many of the babies named [name_m]William[/name_m] (ranked #3 or 0.77%) might also be going by the nickname [name_m]Liam[/name_m], so that could factor into its overall popularity as well…
Ultimately though, it’s not that terrible to have a common name, so if you really love it, I’d stick with it. But for what it’s worth, I do love [name_m]Kian[/name_m] as an alternative! It shares a lot of sounds with [name_m]Liam[/name_m], and I’d bet good money he’d be the only in his class!
I think if you really love it, use it. You also mentioned that you love [name_m]Leo[/name_m] but don’t like any of the longer names that include [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. [name_f]IMO[/name_f] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] stands alone perfectly well, and in terms of ranking it is less popular than [name_m]Liam[/name_m] in the U.S. [name_m]Liam[/name_m] or [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. Both great names.
Thank you for that response it actually made me feel a lot better. My daughter’s school for example has 1 [name_m]Liam[/name_m] in the whole school. I have never even met a [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. I feel like its his name,my heart smiles every time I say it. He kicks me and I exclaim [name_m]Liam[/name_m]!!
Thanks everybody!! Now can anyone help me with a final middle name choice?
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m] is the name of my favorite uncle and I think [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] sounds really good and has a very nice flow both of my girls have middle names
[name_f]Maya[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] Tuapeua
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_f]Beverly[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
I was going to use [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] but I recently fell in love with [name_m]Koa[/name_m]…
[name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Koa[/name_m] [name_m]Thompson[/name_m]?
I wanted something kind of quirky maybe a nature name or something Norse.
Again some names I love
[name_m]Ciaran[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
Siren
[name_m]Kian[/name_m]
I’m not sure…the one with [name_m]Koa[/name_m] replayed in my dreams all night last night I love that it means brave or warrior it is a nature name and I love the sound of it… Got any input? I would love to hear it. Also I love names that mean brave or strong…if he was a girl I would have names him [name_f]Saoirse[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_m]Bravery[/name_m]…
Thanks”
I laughed when I read your post: we were debating between [name_m]Liam[/name_m] and [name_m]Callum[/name_m] for our son born last year! He ended up being [name_m]Callum[/name_m] but we still love the name [name_m]Liam[/name_m]–the name is popular for a reason! It’s a beautiful, balanced name! Since [name_m]Callum[/name_m] means “dove” we were happy to give him the family name [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] as a middle, which means “hardy like a bear” so he gets to be peaceful and strong. Fits him to a T so far!
I like the flow of [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thompson[/name_m] a bit better than [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Koa[/name_m] [name_m]Thompson[/name_m], I think because [name_m]Liam[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], [name_m]Koa[/name_m], and [name_m]Thompson[/name_m] all have 2-syllables. I’d use one 3-syllable or one 1-syllable name in there to help with flow. (This made me realize that I pronounce [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] with 3-syllables: WHY-el-der.)
I think [name_m]Liam[/name_m] [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Thompson[/name_m] is a fantastic name, and I wouldn’t change a thing!
[name_m]Koa[/name_m] is nms, but I also don’t think it flows as well as (or matches) your original name.
