[name]Hi[/name]! This is my first post. My husband and I are expecting a baby boy in [name]March[/name] and think we have decided on [name]Gus[/name]. We don’t like [name]August[/name], [name]Augustus[/name], [name]Angus[/name], etc… [name]Just[/name] [name]Gus[/name].
We simply have not been able to come up with a middle name we like! The first name that popped into my head was [name]Gus[/name] [name]Aaron[/name], but I don’t even like the name [name]Aaron[/name]. Other nixed possibilities were [name]Alexander[/name], [name]Albert[/name], [name]Alvin[/name], [name]Andrew[/name], [name]Edgar[/name], [name]Patrick[/name], [name]William[/name], [name]Henderson[/name]. As you can see, we’re all over the place.
I feel like [name]Gus[/name] is a name that can either feel hip and cool or dowdy and old, and the middle name needs to elevate it to that cool level. Does that make sense?
Also, ([name]Long[/name] post, I’m sorry) What are your opinions on [name]Mingus[/name]?

I love [name]Leo[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] and [name]Alec[/name] [name]Donovan[/name]! As for [name]Gus[/name], it feels incomplete to me. Hve you considered [name]Gustav/name? I see your mn dilemma–[name]Gus[/name] doesn’t sound great with any of the names you list above, but [name]Gustav[/name] [name]Edgar[/name], [name]Gustav[/name] [name]Alvin[/name], or [name]Gustav[/name] [name]William[/name] all sound very dashing to my ear.
If you love [name]Gus[/name] and can’t find a mn that sounds great with it, go for a mn with meaning for you. Can you use a family name, a significant place name, or the name of a influential person in your life?
You’re right, [name]Gus[/name] does depend a lot on middle names, here are some cool or tough ones to go with it:
[name]Gus[/name] [name]Leo[/name] (one of your other picks, love that this has 1-2 rhythm with only 6 letters!)

[name]Mingus[/name] is really hip and cool, but I’d be concerned by the fact that it rhymes with a sexual act, and I think it will also just confuse people.

[name]Alec[/name] [name]Donovan[/name]: I really like both names, but this particular combo makes me think a lot of [name]Alec[/name] [name]Baldwin[/name] for some reason (whom I really like, but maybe not as a reference point for a child).
[name]Montgomery[/name] [name]James[/name]: [name]Montgomery[/name] sounds kind of snobbish, I mean, whatever, not a huge problem, but I also think [name]Monty[/name]'s the only real nickname here, and it’s kind of unfortunate. [name]James[/name] [name]Montgomery[/name] would be really great in my book though.
I actually prefer both [name]Leo[/name] [name]Joseph[/name] (which I really, really like!) and [name]Alec[/name] [name]Donovan[/name] to [name]Gus[/name]; though I don’t dislike [name]Gus[/name], it feels like less of a “full” name to me than [name]Alec[/name] or [name]Leo[/name].

You guys are awesome! @Katybug- I actually threw aroung [name]Gustav[/name] alot in the beginning because my family is [name]German[/name], but I was worried about getting stuck in those types of names for future children. (Though I do love [name]Bruna[/name] and [name]Otto[/name], so that may not be a problem…) @jesba- We also threw around [name]Magnus[/name]! My husband loves the show Sanctuary on the Syfy channel and the main female character goes by her last name, [name]Magnus[/name]. @cressida- My huband has been pushing for [name]Antony[/name] as the middle name and seeing that you listed it twice only made him more persistent. LOL
Now I’m really torn on whether or not I’m going to stay with [name]Gus[/name]…
I love [name]Gus[/name] and think it is fine as is and doesn’t need a longer form. Here are some ideas for middle names…sorry for repeats, you have had some great ones.
