Help please! Names to honor my faith

I am really looking for some names to honor my faith for future children. I’m a [name]Christian[/name] and it would be so special to me to have a name that honors God in some way without just picking a name from the Bible. Here are some examples of what I am talking about:

Girls

[name]Trinity[/name] (for Father, [name]Son[/name], Holy [name]Spirit[/name])
I really like [name]Trinity[/name] but there is something about it I don’t like. I can’t put my finger on it.

[name]Eliana[/name] (means God has answered in Hebrew)
I like [name]Eliana[/name], but I don’t love it. It is also similar to my name and has the same pronunciation issue as my name.

[name]Grace[/name] (Reflecting God’s grace and mercy)
[name]Love[/name] [name]Grace[/name] but it’s a bit overused. I do think it would be refreshing to see it as a FN, though.

[name]Elliot[/name] nn “[name]Ellie[/name]” (means The [name]Lord[/name] is my God)
[name]Love[/name] the meaning and love it on a girl. I love how it looks and sounds. My problems with it are 1) It is rising in popularity and 2) I know people will see it on paper and automatically think boy

[name]Eliza[/name] (short form of [name]Elizabeth[/name] meaning God is my Oath)
I love [name]Eliza[/name] and have no problems with it. I will probably use this in the mn slot.

[name]Liberty[/name] nn “[name]Libby[/name]” (means [name]Freedom[/name]- represents freedom in [name]Christ[/name] and also associated with bible verses like [name]Isaiah[/name] 61:1)
My top contender at the moment. I love the nn [name]Libby[/name].

Boys

[name]Christian[/name] (obvious reason LOL)
[name]Love[/name] [name]Christian[/name] but really dislike [name]Chris[/name]. Also it is a bit popular for me.

[name]David[/name] (from the Bible, a man after God’s own heart)
An ex’s name :frowning:

[name]Ezra[/name] (from the Bible)
Like this, but I’m not in love

[name]Gideon[/name] (tons of good reasons that I won’t bore you with but mainly I love the story of [name]Gideon[/name] from the Bible)
My top contender. [name]Love[/name] it, I am just really hoping it doesn’t rise in popularity

[name]Immanuel[/name] (meaning God is with us)
Not in love with it, but I think it would be a good mn

[name]Elisha[/name] (a man of God from the bible meaning God is my salvation)
Use to be my top boy name, but I am afraid people will either think its prn [name]Al[/name]-ee-sha or if it’s said out loud they will think it’s [name]Elijah[/name]

[name]Micah[/name] (love [name]Micah[/name] 6:8)
[name]Love[/name] [name]Micah[/name], but it has “gone girl” over the years

If you have made it this far thank you for reading! I am open to any suggestions

I like a lot of those: Most of mine are in reference to God [since I rather not use [name]Jesus[/name], but I adore [name]Yeshua[/name] but wouldn’t use it] or His promises such as the names like [name]River[/name] [name]Jordan[/name] [my top boys name is from a passage in the Bible, and it’s the river [name]Jesus[/name] was baptized in], [name]Rainbow[/name],[name]Emmanuel[/name] [middle name], [name]Shiloh[/name], [name]Shepherd[/name], [name]Peace[/name], [name]Freedom[/name], [name]Hope[/name], [name]Truth[/name] etc. I love [name]Elliott[/name] [either gender] and [name]Elisha[/name] I say ee=lye-shh-ah. I only knew a girl named this, but I adore it on a boy. [name]Liberty[/name] is cute.

Oh I love the suggestion of [name]River[/name] [name]Jordan[/name]! [name]Shiloh[/name] is on my list but I didn’t have it listed here. I like [name]Freedom[/name] but don’t have the guts to use it.

I love [name]Eliana[/name]. [name]Elliot[/name] is a name I love on a boy (not on a girl!) You could still call an [name]Eliana[/name] [name]Ellie[/name].

For a boy I like [name]David[/name], because it’s classic and handsome. Please, please, PLEASE use [name]Elliot[/name] on a boy!

I never thought about [name]Ellie[/name] as a nn for [name]Eliana[/name] but it’s really obvious now that you mention it. I do like [name]Elliot[/name] on a boy, too. But I saw [name]Eliot[/name] (spelled this way) on a gorgeous little girl and now I’m in love with it. Maybe I will see it on a boy and start loving it more for a boy.

My second son’s name is [name]Timothy[/name], which means “to honor God.” We love his name.

Here are my favorites from your list:

GIRLS:

  • [name]Eliana[/name] - Wow…what a pretty and unexpected name. My favorite!
  • [name]Grace[/name]
  • [name]Eliza[/name]
    – [name]Liberty[/name] nn “[name]Libby[/name]” - I am not a big fan of words as names, but the nn “[name]Libby[/name]” really makes it cute and quite usable.

BOYS:

  • [name]Christian[/name] - Wonderful name, but I agree that the nn [name]Chris[/name] is a concern.
  • [name]David[/name] - [name]One[/name] of the most handsome names [name]EVER[/name]. It used to be extremely popular, which is the only downside. Nonetheless, it is a timeless classic and a well-beloved (coincidental pun), strong, terrific name.
  • [name]Ezra[/name] - I quite like it.
    — [name]Gideon[/name] - Not a big fan. I would just want to avoid the nn or teasing of “Giddy.”

Suggestions:

  • [name]Samuel[/name] - Told by God
  • [name]Timothy[/name] - To honor God
  • [name]Gabriel[/name] - God is my strength
  • [name]Jonathan[/name] - Gift of Jehovah

[name]Jane[/name] (Feminine form of [name]John[/name]) God is gracious

I too love [name]Micah[/name] and am so sad that is has gone to the girl’s side! It’s hard enough to think of a boy name!

Maybe the reason you don’t like [name]Trinity[/name] is because of the Matrix movies. Who knows, though? I still love it.

I guess I’m one of those people who think no male name ever truly passes all the way into the female realm, but I honestly don’t think [name]Micah[/name] is too girlish. Honestly, the first thing I think of when I hear the name is a boy. I’ve always loved the name for a boy or a girl, either would be perfectly suitable imo.

Is [name]Gideon[/name] getting popular? I have no idea of those things, but I know that it’s popular with the Amish. They seem to be good at finding names like this. I think if you really love this one and the story that goes with it, you shouldn’t worry about popularity. I doubt it can get that popular really- people like really trendy names or names with lots of nicknames.

I really like [name]Samson[/name], I don’t know if anyone else recommended that. He was one of my favorite stories. I know it’s probably not your style, but I’ve heard the name [name]Jobie[/name] before, like [name]Job[/name]. [name]Eden[/name] is one of my favorites, and [name]Eve[/name] is really pretty I think as a first name. Other than that, [name]Jonah[/name] is kind of like [name]Micah[/name], and that’s not over to the girls.

I like a lot of your names and understand your dilemma! Have you thought about using any Saints names? You might find some nice ones there–and look beyond the actual names; their place names can also be used.

Some others:
[name]Jubal[/name] or even [name]Jubilee[/name] might be nice choices. I’ve met a [name]Bethany[/name], a [name]Tirzah[/name], a Maranatha, a Shekina, a [name]Selah[/name], and an [name]Epiphany[/name] before as well.

I think [name]Grace[/name] [name]Eliza[/name] is a really stunning combo. I like that one a lot!

For boys, I love [name]Ezra[/name], [name]Elliot[/name] (not on a girl), [name]Gideon[/name] & [name]Micah[/name] (definitely not ‘gone to the girls’ imo)
I know a few boys named [name]Imanol[/name], which is Basque for [name]Emmanuel[/name], and I like that quite a bit (ee-ma-noll)

Girls
Juibilee
[name]Annalie[/name] “The lord has favored me”
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] “pledged to God”
[name]Elise[/name] same as [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Dorothy[/name] " Gift of God"

Boys
[name]Jude[/name] “praise”
[name]Matthew[/name] “Gift of god”
[name]John[/name] “God is gracious”
[name]Azariah[/name] “Helped by God”
[name]Caleb[/name] “Devotion to God”
[name]Eliakim[/name] “God will raise up”
[name]Gabriel[/name] archangel’s name “God is my strength”

A couple thoughts for boys:

You could do [name]Zane[/name] which is a form of [name]John[/name] and means “God is gracious”

I agree that [name]Immanuel[/name] would make a great mn. [name]Immanuel[/name] is one of my most favorite names for [name]Jesus[/name].

This might be more a stretch for you but our son has [name]Luke[/name] as a middle name. [name]Luke[/name] means “[name]Light[/name] or bringer of light.” We were faced with some hard times health wise for my husband when we were pregnant with my son and just knew that God had given us this little boy as the light in what, at times, was a scary year.

A lot of names do honor or reference God in their root meaning and the berries have pointed out a lot of wonderful choices. I want to mention that on our Supersearch page, you can type any word – “God” or “[name]Lord[/name]” for instance – into the meaning search box and all the names that contain that word in their meaning will come up. You can just leave all the other fields blank so you get the full range of names. I just tried it for God and got 386 choices: https://nameberry.com/search/?gender=&starts_with=&ends_with=&contains=&syllables=&language_id=&derivation=God

Well most of your boys names taken from the bible… I really dislike [name]Trinity[/name] and [name]Liberty[/name]. When I hear the name [name]Liberty[/name] and [name]Justice[/name] all I can think of is the USA and that they must be patriotic… not religious… [name]Trinity[/name] just bugs me…

I like the others except [name]Elliot[/name]. [name]Elliot[/name] is a boy’s name and I hate that it’s going to the girls.

My favorites for girls are [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Eliana[/name], and [name]Grace[/name]. You can use [name]Ellie[/name] with [name]Eliana[/name] and [name]Eliza[/name].

I would avoid [name]David[/name] at all costs, if it’s a name of an ex, it’s unusable in all forms. So I would just cross that one off. [name]Ezra[/name] is my favorite boy’s name. You could add [name]Elliot[/name] for the boy’s slot and then I’d like that too

I love [name]Eliza[/name], [name]Eliana[/name], [name]Gideon[/name], [name]Elliot[/name](boy only), and [name]Micah[/name]!!

There are many names that I love but feel I can’t use due to the fact that I’m an atheist – particularly [name]Jericho[/name] and [name]Galilee[/name], which I think are gorgeous and modern but thoroughly [name]Christian[/name]. I like the idea of thinking a little outside the box when it comes to meaningful names. [name]How[/name] about [name]Dove[/name] or [name]Olive[/name] (as in the branch after the flood)? [name]Stella[/name] [name]Maris[/name] is a beautiful, ornate girls’ name referring to the Virgin [name]Mary[/name].

Thanks for all the suggestions! I really like:

Girls
[name]Jane[/name]- I like [name]Jane[/name] a lot but doesn’t work with ln.
[name]Eden[/name]- I really like this a lot.
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Jubilee[/name]- love this, it is actually on my list but didn’t put it on here. I love it for a mn.
[name]Grace[/name] [name]Eliza[/name] (or [name]Eliza[/name] [name]Grace[/name])- I really like this combo.
[name]Annalie[/name]- this is really pretty. I hadn’t thought of this one.

Boys

[name]Gabriel[/name]- love this and the nn [name]Gabe[/name]. Also love this for a mn
[name]Jonah[/name]- I love [name]Jonah[/name], but my nephew (who I see everyday) is [name]Noah[/name] and I’m afraid thats too close
[name]Jericho[/name]- I like this a lot. I also really like Jerusalem, but I think it’s quite a mouthful.

I have considered [name]Selah[/name] before. I love how it looks on paper but don’t love the sound. Someone mentioned [name]Jobie[/name], I actually know a [name]Joby[/name] and while I think it’s interesting it’s not really my style. Someone mentioned [name]Jude[/name] which reminded me that I really like [name]Judah[/name]. I am not 100% sold on it but I think I could grow to love it. I really like the suggestion of [name]Dove[/name] and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Stella[/name] but it is just getting too popular :frowning:

To the person who used [name]Luke[/name]: I really love your reasoning for using it. Thats kind of the association I’m looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion of the Supersearch page! I will definitely take a look at it.

Thanks everyone for the responses! I love a lot of them and you have given me a lot to consider  Still open to more suggestions, though.
