I have a dilema…I’m due with our third child in 7 weeks (a girl) and her siblings have very popular names, that weren’t that popular when we named them. My oldest is [name]Madison[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], she’s 18, so when I named her it was still considered a boys name and it was unusual at the time, then a few years later it exploded! My son’s name is [name]Jacob[/name] [name]Fulton[/name], he’s 10, and we knew it was popular but we loved it too much to give up. My concern is that the names we have short listed will suffer the same fate as [name]Madison[/name] and would like something a little more unique…but it also has to go well with the sibset.
What our top names are now:
[name]Evelyn[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] (I know the [name]Isabella[/name] boom has made me very sad!)
[name]Sophie[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] are both super popular and definitely not the route you should go if you want unique. I love [name]Evelyn[/name] (its my grandmother’s name) and I think, at least where I live, that it would still be a unique name.
[name]Evelyn[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] would definitely be the way to go to avoid super-popularity. Or put [name]Margaret[/name] in the first spot - I love it and you could use the great nn [name]Maggie[/name]. I think [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name] or [name]Margaret[/name] [name]Clara[/name] sound nice.
Although beautiful names, I think [name]Isabelle[/name], [name]Sophie[/name], and [name]Clara[/name] are all pretty popular (and continuing to grow in popularity). I like [name]Evelyn[/name], but would worry about people shortening it to the nn [name]Eve[/name] or [name]Evie[/name]. [name]Evie[/name] is still too popular for my tastes, so if it were me, I would push people to not shorten it.
Maybe [name]Sophia[/name] instead of [name]Sophie[/name]? I know that [name]Sophia[/name] is very popular, but I like it a lot with your other two children’s names-[name]Madison[/name], [name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name].
Other than that, my favourite would be [name]Clara[/name] [name]Margaret[/name].
Good luck!
I would go for [name]Evelyn[/name] or [name]Clara[/name]. Or possibly [name]Gabrielle[/name] instead of [name]Isabelle[/name] - still somewhat popular, but hasn’t quite had the explosion that the [name]Isabel[/name]- names have.
I find [name]Isabella[/name], [name]Sophie[/name] and [name]Clara[/name] very mismatched with [name]Madison[/name]. Besides, all three of these are rather popular, especially [name]Isabella[/name] and I am guessing all the little Sophias out there get shortened to [name]Sophie[/name]. [name]Clara[/name] seems to be rising as well. I like [name]Evelyn[/name] best with [name]Madison[/name] because, like [name]Madison[/name], it was originally a male name and has an uber cutsey feminine nickname option, [name]Evie[/name]. That said, [name]Evelyn[/name] is also common as well.
I wouldn’t worry about popularity in your case, I’d chose a name you love and one that sounds nice with [name]Madison[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name]. Here are other ideas:
I think [name]Clara[/name] is the safest option. I know a lot of [name]Sophie[/name]'s, [name]Isabelle[/name]'s and [name]Evelyn[/name]'s. I also know a fair few [name]Claire[/name]'s, but no [name]Clara[/name]'s. Other ideas:
Honestly, I wonder why parents put so much emphasis on the sib-set. I have 2 brother and 2 sisters and none of our names go together really, but it’s not like we’re always together where it would matter.
From your list I like [name]Clara[/name] best. I think it has a timeless charm to it where I could imagine a baby [name]Clara[/name], a 16 year old [name]Clara[/name], and an adult [name]Clara[/name].
I love [name]Margaret[/name] and especially [name]Maggie[/name], but it’s my [name]MIL[/name]'s name, which is why we’re using it as a middle…and [name]Maggie[/name] is too similar to [name]Maddy[/name] which is what we call [name]Madison[/name]. I love some of the suggestions here. [name]Vivienne[/name] is another one of my favorites…hubby’s not too crazy about it though.
All your options are lovely! I wouldn’t go too un-popular since both [name]Madison[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name] have fairly popular names, but it would be nice to have a less popular name for this baby.
My favorite is definitely [name]Isabelle[/name]… I know [name]Isabella[/name] is super popular but [name]Isabelle[/name] only ranks at number 105 and has been dropping fairly steadily (about 5-10 spots each year) for the past few years (since around 2007 or so, I believe?). [name]Isabelle[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is a charming, perfect combo, and I love it a lot with [name]Madison[/name] and [name]Jacob[/name]. Then again, [name]Isabelle[/name] is my favorite girls’ name, and very likely will be my first daughter’s name, so I’m pretty biased.
I think [name]Evelyn[/name] is a nice medium between popular and out-there… it’s familiar, but not overdone, classic but modern, and the nn [name]Evie[/name] is too cute. Although [name]Evelyn[/name] is more popular than [name]Isabelle[/name]… I don’t know if that matters to you.
[name]Sophie[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is lovely, but [name]Sophie[/name]'s been rising quite steadily and is often used as a nn for [name]Sophia[/name], though it’s a full name in its own right (unlike [name]Isabelle[/name], which is rarely a nn for [name]Isabella[/name], as far as I know, anyway!), and it’s probably the most popular option on your list.
[name]Clara[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is probably my second favorite… I love charming [name]Clara[/name], and it’s so refreshing to hear–I just promoted [name]Evelyn[/name] before [name]Clara[/name], since I think [name]Evelyn[/name] fits a bit better with [name]Jacob[/name] and [name]Madison[/name].
I wouldn’t worry about matching [name]Madison[/name], she is 18 and the two will hardly ever be linked together in their lives. Pick the name you love best.
All of these names seem to popular on Nameberry. I am surprised at how popular [name]Evelyn[/name] is though, as I don’t hear it used in my area.
I think, of those 4 names, it would be the one to pick.
I too was once in love with the name [name]Madison[/name] before it became so popular.
Perhaps one of these less popular names would be too your liking:
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Eve[/name]
[name]Giselle[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Bethany[/name]
[name]Sylvie[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name], [name]Susanne[/name]/[name]Suzanne[/name]
[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Laura[/name], [name]Lauren[/name]
[name]Loretta[/name]
[name]Colette[/name]
[name]Clarice[/name]
[name]Maria[/name], [name]Mariah[/name]
[name]Marcella[/name]
[name]Mallory[/name]
[name]Michaela[/name]. [name]Micaela[/name]
[name]Maren[/name]
I agree, [name]Isabelle[/name] and [name]Sophie[/name] are sooooo popular, I like [name]Evelyn[/name] better than [name]Clara[/name]. What about…
[name]Nora[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Blair[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Margot[/name] [name]Evelyn[/name]
[name]Clarice[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Helena[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Etta[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Love[/name] all 4 of the names but was supprised to read your list, my best friend has 4 girls with these 4 names! Only difference is it’s [name]Sophia[/name] not [name]Sophie[/name] I think [name]Clara[/name] is the least popular of your list although I know it is getting very popular were we live. Best of luck to you!
I love [name]Clara[/name]! I think it goes very well with the other names. I think it’s simple and timeless but not super popular, and it reminds me of the Nutcracker.
