We are expecting a baby in [name]July[/name] and are having trouble finalizing a girl’s name. If the baby is a boy we intend to name him [name]David[/name] after both of our dads.
If the baby is a girl we have narrowed it down to three names we like but are having trouble eliminating one and choosing the right order and we really need your help!!
I love [name]Marie[/name] [name]Vienne[/name] as a double first name but think that that may be a little pretentious, is not really workable in real life and that she would be just be called [name]Marie[/name].
We had been thinking [name]Vienne[/name] [name]Marie[/name] but I think [name]Marie[/name] is so common as a middle name that maybe we should come up with something different. We like [name]Vienne[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name] but think that may be too much name. Maybe we want something a little more mainstream as a middle name in case she didn’t like having an uncommon first name? I’d also hesitate to have the middle name begin with an “A” in case she wants to marry someone whose last name begins with a “G” . . . .
Also, any suggestions for a middle name to go with [name]Nola[/name]?
[name]Vienne[/name] is so pretty! Is it to honor [name]Vienna[/name] or something else?
I do think it will confuse people a little - less a concern in middle spot of course. And if you’ve already thought about that and are OK, then great : D. But I love [name]Vivienne[/name] and I can see [name]Vienne[/name] as a nickname for that. [name]Vivienne[/name] [name]Marie[/name]? [name]Marie[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]? [name]Vienna[/name] is pretty too but I actually like [name]Vienne[/name] better, although I think [name]Vienna[/name] is more instantly spell-able/say-able.
Since you plan to honor both your dads with [name]David[/name], I wanted to let you know I just stumbled across the name [name]Vidette[/name] as a diminutive as [name]David[/name] – it shares some overlap with [name]Vienne[/name], the [name]Vi[/name] and the stress. [name]Do[/name] you like it? [name]Nola[/name] [name]Vidette[/name], [name]Marie[/name] [name]Vidette[/name]? Fine if not, just thought it was intriguing.
I like [name]Marie[/name] [name]Vienne[/name] the best of your options for recongizability. [name]Nola[/name] is lovely but I just hear [name]Nolan[/name] when I hear it…not a deal-breaker but [name]Marie[/name] is just such a classic. I also think if you do have a future son than [name]Marie[/name] and [name]David[/name] are the best match of the three combos [name]Marie[/name] and [name]David[/name], [name]Vienne[/name] and [name]David[/name], and [name]Nola[/name] and [name]David[/name]. I also think [name]Vivienne[/name] and [name]David[/name] are a good match.
[name]Marie[/name] is lovely and so refreshing as a first name. I’m really not a fan of [name]Vienne[/name]-- isn’t it the French name for the city of [name]Vienna[/name]? [name]Marie[/name] is so much more classic and sophisticated. You could also do [name]Vivienne[/name] nicknamed [name]Vienne[/name].
I don’t really like [name]Nola[/name] (it sounds nicknamey, plus I just don’t like the sound) but it’s not a bad name.
It may be, but there is actually a city called [name]Vienne[/name] in [name]France[/name].
Having been to [name]Vienne[/name], the name brings some lovely images to mind (a gorgeous French city with ancient [name]Roman[/name] ruins? Also home to a great jazz festival. So cool!). I like it best of your options but have no idea what I’d pair with it in the middle, this is the first I’ve considered it as a given name… definitely something “classic” though I think, to balance it out.
I really like [name]Marie[/name] [name]Vienne[/name] like a double first name. I`m a huge fan of hyphens in some cases, have you thougth about using it? [name]Marie[/name]-[name]Vienne[/name] [name]Magnolia[/name] sounds cute to me, and you can use the name [name]Nola[/name] like a nickname for [name]Magnolia[/name]. You could also use MarieVienne, without the space, but I think it loose lot of its charm.
I agree with a post above, what if you use [name]Vienne[/name] like a short form of [name]Vivienne[/name]? I think that [name]Vivienne[/name] is much more usuable.
[name]Vidette[/name] is an intersting diminutive for [name]David[/name] that we hadn’t heard before. We are planning at least one more kid after this one so we may consider [name]Vidette[/name] for the second child if we end up with two girls!
I do like [name]Vivienne[/name] but don’t know if I can get past the Brangelina connection and I prefer [name]Vienne[/name] as a stand alone name after the region and there is also a river. I know that it has been used as a given name occasionally and, given the similarity to [name]Vienna[/name] and [name]Vivienne[/name] I was hoping people wouldn’t find it too confusing.
One of my friends has a hyphenated first name and almost everyone only calls her by the first half of her name. Also, if I used a hyphen it would feel a little like I was naming the baby “after” her because hyphenated names are so uncommon.
We are still undecided but I guess we have a few more months to choose.
Thanks again for all your help!
