Help! We can't find a compromise'

Hello! We are expecting our second boy in 9 weeks. We have a hard time picking boys names. My husband wants to name the baby after his uncle, [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], even though he already has a namesake ([name_m]Conrad[/name_m]'s son is also [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]). I thought about honoring his uncle by using a c name ( my first choice is [name_u]Chase[/name_u]). The name [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] is really not an option for me-it just doesn’t flow with our last name. We can’t agree on any name at all and the arguments are getting ugly and spiteful! It took us 4 years to get pregnant and I hate that picking a name us so stressful. I love the name [name_u]Chase[/name_u] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m]. I also love [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_m]Griffin[/name_m], [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]. He likes [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m], [name_u]Barrett[/name_u], [name_u]Owen[/name_u]. Please, somebody, help us find a compromise!

I would explain to DH why it is off the table for you. That [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] is already being honored, and then listen to why exactly he likes it.

If you don’t like the rest of each others picks, try and come up with a list together. Or come up with seprate lists and then rank each others picks.
I understand your frustration, my DH was hard to work with, but we eventually got there. Maybe give naming a break and come back to it. Or if you feel tensions rising, take some time off it.

Okay 2 things I would suggest

  1. Have one pick the first name and the other one the middle name.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] give into his demand of [name_m]Conrad[/name_m], but on the condition that you choose a middle name that you like. Seriously if you do this you have the notion of just referring to him by his middle name on your side as he already has a namesake in use by a family member. He has a nice name that will look presentable on paper for an important job and you can call him whatever you like. This seems very fair and this is the line of argument I plan on using as I like names that are a bit out there… and my brother gets called by his middle name anyway.

  2. Find a nice solid name he likes and just search for a plausible nickname you like.
since [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholson[/name_m] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m] (founder of the [name_m]Hilton[/name_m] Hotel chain) I’m going to use his son as an example.
    [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] [name_m]Nicholson[/name_m] [name_m]Hilton[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m] was referred to as [name_u]Nicky[/name_u].
If you can find a nice solid name he likes… just find a cute nickname.
Also the name [name_m]Barron[/name_m] which he may also like.
[name_m]Beau[/name_m] can be attached to almost any name beginning with B.
    Full name- [name_m]Barron[/name_m]… Nickname- [name_m]Beau[/name_m]

Not exactly sure what names you like
but [name_u]Chase[/name_u] could easily be a nickname for [name_m]Charles[/name_m] or even the more proper Charlton

even the name [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m] has the nickname [name_u]Finn[/name_u]

Edited for privacy.

[name_m]Corrado[/name_m] is the Italian form, according to Nameberry - perhaps this might be an alternative? I like [name_m]Cord[/name_m] as well, which is a diminutive, apparently. Also, this might be a bit too far, but [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] could go my nickname [name_m]Rad[/name_m] (which, just by the way, is very sweet), as could any of the names below, so that could reference back to it:

Arad
[name_u]Bradley[/name_u]
[name_m]Brad[/name_m]
[name_u]Brady[/name_u]
Bradburn
[name_m]Bradshaw[/name_m]
[name_u]Colorado[/name_u]
Cradog
Graden
[name_u]Grady[/name_u]
[name_m]Jared[/name_m] (at a stretch - all the letters are there!)
[name_m]Radcliff[/name_m]/[name_m]Radcliffe[/name_m] (I like this one for you guys)
[name_m]Radford[/name_m]
[name_m]Radley[/name_m]

Or you could try to find a name with the same meaning as [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] to honour the name instead? There are lots of options - just keep on looking, and you’ll get there! Good luck.

What about:

[name_u]Con[/name_u]all
[name_u]Con[/name_u]an
[name_u]Con[/name_u]leth
[name_u]Con[/name_u]ley
[name_u]Con[/name_u]nery
[name_u]Con[/name_u]nor
[name_u]Con[/name_u]roy
[name_u]Con[/name_u]stantine
[name_u]Con[/name_u]way
Deacon
Falcon

Bit of a stretch but: [name_f]Lin[/name_f]coln.

Bradford
Bradley
Bradshaw
Gradimir
Grady
[name_m]Rad[/name_m]cliffe
[name_m]Rad[/name_m]ford
Trader

You could have a [name_u]Con[/name_u] first name and a [name_m]Rad[/name_m] middle name to honor a [name_m]Conrad[/name_m].

If you guys don’t like any of the name combinations explain to him why you feel the you do. He’ll surely understand.
[name_m]Rad[/name_m]ley

I agree about using [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] as a middle name. Maybe if you agree on that fact it will take some of the stress off picking the first name, since [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] would be off the table completely?

I love [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]! But, you don’t, so putting it in the middle is a great option. Based on both name lists, how about:

[name_m]Bennett[/name_m]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]
[name_m]Callan[/name_m]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]
[name_m]Cordell[/name_m]

Boyandgirl,

I was just reading your name suggestions and you included the names of our first son, [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]! We are still on the hunt for a name for our second son. Aaarrrgghhhh!
