I know that [name]Aria[/name] is pronounced AHR-ee-a however I would also spell [name]Ah[/name]-[name]RYE[/name]-ah (I suck at spelling things phonetically. Think the ending sound of [name]Moriah[/name] with the short a sound at the beginning) this way, maybe [name]Ariah[/name].
Is that okay or not? I don’t want to butcher a legitimate name to get the pronunciation I want but I don’t know how else.to spell it. Any advice?
I think [name]Ariah[/name] would definitely give you the pronunciation you want - it reminds me of [name]Mariah[/name].
Although [name]Aria[/name] has been used much more and for longer (first appeared in US SSA lists in 1900) [name]Ariah[/name] has also been in the SSA lists since 1991, so I don’t see a problem with it. I think the different pronunciation makes it different to [name]Aria[/name], whereas I see butchering as more of a case of you want the same pronunciation but make the original name unrecognisable i.e. Aerreyaarh to get [name]Aria[/name] would be horrible!
I think it works. [name]Ariah[/name] is quite nice!
Thanks for the input bluejuniper and uselesskitty!
That’s definitely butchering it but I was also thinking of a thread where they said a friend was considering [name]Niamh[/name] and [name]Liam[/name] with an N (which to me is butchering a name by changing how an established name is pronounced).
I thought [name]Aria[/name] was said [name]Ah[/name]-rye-ah at first myself! I think [name]Ariah[/name] gets your desired pronunciation.
Thanks east93 for the help!
