I need help! Currently pregnant with my third child (my 1st girl). I have two sons with my ex-husband & I’d like my third child’s name to fit in with theirs.
My boys are Jasper Fox & Beckham “Beck” Ellis.
This is my partner’s first child & his surname is two-syllables starting with an “R” ending in a “Y”.
To make matters even more complicated we both grew up with super popular names which we want to avoid for our baby at all cost. Additionally, I work in education & don’t like names I associate with children I’ve taught. I know…I’m making this difficult
Here’s the names we have so far & our thoughts on them:
Rainey - worried about a middle name with this one
Holland - wondering what she’d be called for short
Lola - our extended family dislikes this name. We like it but were soured by the reaction
Daisy - not sure it works with our last name. More my style than my partner’s
Henley - again, not sure if it works with last name & worried about nicknames
Other names I like but they just don’t work for one reason or another.
Eden
Cleo
Minna
Remi
Sutton
Margo
I’m a huge name nerd but have been struggling with girls names this time. Would love suggestions
Rainey-I think it’s interesting & I like it with your sons’ names. I think that maybe it’s a little much with your last name though? Also, I think that it feels too nick-name-y. Would prefer [name_u]Rain[/name_u] as a full name with the nn of [name_f]Rainey[/name_f]. [name_u]Or[/name_u] even better, Lorraine?!
Holland-I assume that she’d get called [name_u]Holly[/name_u] some. I think that [name_u]Holly[/name_u] is sweet, & I prefer just [name_u]Holly[/name_u] to [name_u]Holland[/name_u]. It’s just a pretty nature name whereas [name_u]Holland[/name_u] is a bit of a trendy vibe.
Lola-Meh, I bet your family would be fine with it if it were attached to a sweet little baby. I like it with your crew, but I’m being picky again & like this better for a nn too. [name_f]Eloisa[/name_f], [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lola[/name_f] are great.
Daisy-Love love love [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. Impossible to say without a smile. It has beautiful floral imagery & just feels lovable, vintage & charming. [name_u]Perfect[/name_u] with [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] & [name_u]Beck[/name_u] as well.
Henley-Meh, I don’t know. [name_m]Just[/name_m] sounds like your saying [name_u]Henry[/name_u] wrong. Feels trendy too.
A few ideas that you may like-
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_u]Esme[/name_u]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_u]Hazel[/name_u]
[name_u]Indigo[/name_u]
Maisy-even though I like this as a nn usually for [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] or [name_f]Mary[/name_f].
I should add that we either have or have had pets named the following, so unfortunately off limits for baby girl. However, it may give an idea of our naming style.
Rainey-- this is lovely! Perhaps: [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] R___ or [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] [name_u]Lane[/name_u] R____ or [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] [name_f]Opal[/name_f] R___
Holland-- [name_u]Holly[/name_u] would be lovely!
Lola–it’s your baby but I totally get it!
Daisy–also your decision!
Henley-- [name_f]Hen[/name_f], [name_u]Lee[/name_u] is cute!
[name_f]Rainey[/name_f] - warm and sweet and spunky
[name_u]Holland[/name_u] - it’s okay, not my fave, a bit clunky. [name_u]Holly[/name_u], [name_f]Andie[/name_f], [name_u]Landry[/name_u], [name_f]Hanna[/name_f], [name_f]Hannie[/name_f] or [name_f]Honey[/name_f] could be nicknames
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] - bright and sweet and warm
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f] - charming and cool
[name_u]Henley[/name_u] - it’s okay, not sure if it ‘fits’ with your boys though.
Some new suggestions with [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] and Beckham…
My personal favourites are Daisy and Lola. Both feel so warm and sweet. I know a beautiful woman named L1lith Sylvi@ D@isy.
Rainey - maybe too many ‘R’ sounds? I think it’s not a problem though. I really like it. I also like Raina and just Rain
Holland - I would intuitively go for Holly or Laney (sweet). I’m just not into trendy country/ city etc names myself.
Lola - don’t be bothered by the reactions. They will get used to it! My paternal grandmother hated my name and pushed my mother to change it and all kinds of stuff. I’m glad she stood her ground. Lola is very sweet and just sounds good. Maybe you’d also like Lara, Lyra, Lira, Lana, Laura, Loren, Leonie, Liora, Lovellon, Lovelia, Liriope, Liriel, Leonore, Lorelei )
Daisy - I think it works! Beautiful and very feminine. Sweet, but very usable for a grownup
Henley - I would intuitively think ‘Hen’ aka chicken vibes… But other than that it’s sweet.
I also really love Eden (maybe you’d like Arden, Adore…?), Cleo (in my list. Maybe Chloe? Claudia? Clodia? Gloria? Melody? Elody? ), Margo (Margit? Margot? Madeleine? Matthilde?)
Thank you, everyone. I appreciate the suggestions immensely.
I think our current top three are [name_f]Rainey[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f] & [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. I agree [name_u]Holland[/name_u] may be a bit clunky & [name_u]Henley[/name_u] doesn’t seem to fit our vibe.
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u], while a lovely name, is a past student of mine which I don’t have positive connotations with.
I love the style of [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_u]Hazel[/name_u], [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] but know children with those names.
I’m also a fan of [name_u]Juno[/name_u] & [name_f]Betty[/name_f], but I’m not sure I want another “J” or “B” name.
I really like [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] or [name_f]Lola[/name_f] from your list.
Honestly I think [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] is so sweet and has so much character, I think you should go with it!
[name_f]Raina[/name_f] “Rainey” could be a good option as well.
[name_f]Rainey[/name_f] goes well with lots of middle names as long as it it’s not a nature/word name… something short and sweet:
[name_f]Rainey[/name_f] [name_u]Clare[/name_u], [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] [name_f]Fay[/name_f], [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Rainey[/name_f] [name_u]Louise[/name_u], [name_f]Rainey[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Lola[/name_f] is cool, maybe [name_f]Lyla[/name_f] or [name_f]Lula[/name_f] would appeal more? [name_f]Mila[/name_f] or [name_f]Maya[/name_f] are sweet and have the same lilt. What about [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]? [name_f]Lola[/name_f] is a great nickname here.
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f], [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f] and [name_u]Willow[/name_u] will all get you to [name_f]Lola[/name_f] as well.
my favorite of your top 3 is [name_f]Rainey[/name_f]! It’s original and cool and goes great with her big brother’s names.
