Help with Iris combos

[name_m]Hi[/name_m], it’s me! Back again working on my girls’ list! Today’s first name is [name_f]Iris[/name_f] - I get beautiful, springtime, bright imagery from this name. I find it very elegant, but not frilly, if that makes sense. I have a lot of combos I like with [name_f]Iris[/name_f], but I’m trying to figure out which combo pairs best to complement the vibe of this name.

Which ones are your favorites? Which don’t work at all? Rank them from fave to least fave, make a love/like/lose list, any input works! Thank you!

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Aimee[/name_f] - the flow is probably objectively not the best but I find this combo adorable but grown up at the same time
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] - [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is one of the few first names on my list that I feel I can pair with a really frilly name, but I wonder if this combo is distinct enough for me. I like really memorable names and combos.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] - see above comment. If I went with this vibe, I’m not sure which I like better out of [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] vs. [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - a little too naturey maybe?
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - again, I like that the long frilly middle name works with [name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] - [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is a “soft” name in my mind, while [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] gives this combo a harder and more striking edge (I have no idea if that makes sense but I can picture it in my head lol)
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] - see above re: long frilly middle names
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] - I really love the sound of the name [name_f]Holiday[/name_f]. It is really bright and distinct to me. I probably wouldn’t use it as a first, but I’ve had trouble pairing it as a middle. I like that the “brightness” of these names complement each other
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Holland[/name_u] - this name sounds so elegant and mature to me!
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Lianne[/name_f] / [name_f]Iris[/name_f] Lyanne - middle name is an honor name (for a [name_u]Lynn[/name_u], so Lyanne would be closer to honoring her, but I like the look of [name_f]Lianne[/name_f] better). I’m not someone who needs an honor name in every combo, but the sentiment is great if the combo is good enough.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] - I like that [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] gives it a little spunk and its slightly unisex vibe balances out Iris’ very feminine vibe
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Madita[/name_f] - pronounced “muh-DEE-duh” in my southern US accent. I find [name_f]Madita[/name_f] a really distinct and pretty name and I’d love to find a combo it works well with. This is another combo that looks great on paper and sounds great to me as well, but is it the best?
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] - I’m pronouncing [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] as “THAL-ee-uh” (as opposed to THAHL-ee-uh). Actually this one is a great subtle nod to my city, as [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is a [name_f]Mardi[/name_f] Gras parade and [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] is a street name.

[name_u]Wild[/name_u] cards - for whatever reason they don’t “click” as much as the above combos but I think they still have potential?
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Amberley[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Arabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Julie[/name_u]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Kimber[/name_f] - On paper this is probably my favorite [name_f]Iris[/name_f] combo. It’s not my favorite when said aloud though, although I’m not sure that’s a dealbreaker…

[name_u]Love[/name_u]:
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Madita[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Arabel[/name_f]

Like:
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Aimee[/name_f]

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Holland[/name_u]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Lianne[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Thalia[/name_f]

Neutral:
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] (too naturey for me)
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Amberley[/name_f]

Top 5:
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Madita[/name_f]
I’m a big fan of long frilly middle names so those combos were the ones that jumped out at me the most but I also like the sharper sounds of [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] and [name_f]Madita[/name_f] with the softer [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. I think my top favorite is either [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f]. I like the flow with [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] a little better but [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] feels more unexpected so that combo pops a bit more.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Aimee[/name_f] -I really like this - bright, warm and balanced

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] - it’s a solid choice but it doesn’t frill me

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] - this has more flair and distinctiveness for me - something bright and elegant

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - kind of cosy, but rugged, sharp but warm. I like it, but it means [name_f]Iris[/name_f] no longer has a spring feel to me?

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] - lovely flow, perfectly frilly and sharp at the same time

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] - ooh, this is cool - very spring-y, very fresh

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] - I like this too, sweet and bright, kind of irises growing in unusual places is the imagery I get

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] - [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] is such a cheerful and charming name, and I do enjoy this, it’s just, it reminds me a tiny bit of something a holiday company would call themselves?

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Holland[/name_u] - I don’t mind it - maybe a little descriptive for me but it’s okay

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Lianne[/name_f] / [name_f]Iris[/name_f] Lyanne - nice enough, but I prefer [name_f]Lianne[/name_f] with some of your other combos

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] -didn’t expect to like this but I kind of do - it has an unexpectedly cool spark to it that I’m enjoying

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Madita[/name_f] - ooh this has flair and brightness, completes the spring-like feel you get from [name_f]Iris[/name_f], something sunny but sharp, fun but grounded about it.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Thalia[/name_f] - not sure I’m vibing with these two together. I have no good reason to offer for that though

Of the wildcards, [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Kimber[/name_f] is a lot of fun - something quite sparky and pleasant to say about it

I’d say my overall favourites are [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Aimee[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Madita[/name_f]

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] is beautiful :rainbow:

I have the combination [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Laura[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. You’ve got such a lovely list of middle names for [name_f]Iris[/name_f] definitely providing inspiration!

So I absolutely love [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f].

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is just perfection really graceful, strong and classic. [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is the name of my [name_u]Angel[/name_u] baby so for me this name is packed with sentiment and feels very meaningful paired with [name_f]Iris[/name_f] the ultimate rainbow baby name.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] feels striking, unexpected and impactful. I love [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] and it’s nice to see her getting more usage. I think [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] feels very bold, fiery and elegant.

Out of the two I prefer [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] because I prefer [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] as a name however I get why you’re struggling to choose between the two!

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] is gorgeous she feels so homespun, delicate and pretty. She has lovely cottagecore imagery and is just so bright.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] feels bright and has Christmassy energy to her. [name_f]Evelina[/name_f] is a lovely option and feels like the ultimate princess name paired with [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] is such a fun bohemian option very playful and energetic.

They are all lovely however my favourites are [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] & [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps

Thank you all for the input! I’ve been mulling over these [name_f]Iris[/name_f] combos for a couple days now and I think I can nix a few. Realistically, for an actual child any of these would work and I’d be happy to use any of them! But since this is for me to choose my best combo, I’m gonna be a little nitpicky.

[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] - it’s fine, but others are better
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f] - a little wordy
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Holland[/name_u] - again I think I prefer others on the list just a little more
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_u]Lindsay[/name_u] - still love it but I think the short i sounds and the s sounds are just a little close together
All the wildcards, including [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Kimber[/name_f] (God I love the look of it but I keep hearing “I risk Kimber”)

Still mulling everyone else over :joy: But thank you all, very helpful as always!

Some comments:

  • There’s something so endearing about [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Aimee[/name_f]!
  • I really like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f], though it feels on the borderline between stunningly sibilant and too hissy. Though, as I was writing that I realised I may be pronouncing [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] differently to you and if you’re going with Ana-stay-zha (as opposed to Ana-stay-see-uh) then this is my favourite!
  • [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Arabel[/name_f] is my second favourite. I’d be tempted to go with the frillier spelling of [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f]. As you say, [name_f]Iris[/name_f] isn’t frilly and whilst I usually prefer streamlined spellings, in this case I’d give the middle name those extra letters.

These are really good points! Normally I do include pronunciation clarification in my posts, but I neglected to this time. I am indeed pronouncing [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] as ana-stay-zha; I agree that the other pronunciation definitely sounds really hissy.

Normally I prefer the streamlined [name_f]Arabel[/name_f] > [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f], but honestly I think you’re very right that in this case [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Arabelle[/name_f] fits a lot better! Thank you for pointing that out.
