Anybody???

Its strange to my ears, but I’m american and song really know about other cultures and such. I think that if you like it, and has meaning to you, then use it. [name_f]Hana[/name_f] is beautiful, but so is [name_f]Gia[/name_f]. I’m assuming you aren’t a big fan of [name_f]Gia[/name_f]. But you aren’t naming another person, you are naming you. Choose what you like best.

I totally understand where you’re coming from, and think it’s admirable and awesome to try out how wearing your late mother’s name works for you. I’m really hoping it does, it seems like a beautiful way to honour her memory. ^^ It also makes sense since it’s actually already your name, just the part you’ve been using so far.

I also really understand wanting to separate from Han Solo, especially with [name_f]Star[/name_f] Wars being so in the wind these days. I think [name_f]Hana[/name_f] is perfect in that sense, and I also love that it mimics [name_f]Gia[/name_f] in shortness, simplicity and style, I think it will make the transition easier for the people in your life. I don’t think it’s too far from the original either, it’s just a matter of tailoring the name to you and your personality which is bound to be a little different from your mother’s.
You’re doing a wonderful thing! ^^

(Please, don’t be discouraged because this thread isn’t getting any replies, it’s just not as easy to craft a reply to as other threads :))

I think maybe Waihan “[name_f]Hana[/name_f]” really could be a fairly decent solution. That way, you can use your mother’s name and have a nickname that is really close to what her’s was, yet is also different…your own.

It sounds like you have a bit of a plan of what you want to do. I’d try your ‘new’ name out for a while before making any permanent or legal changes to it. You may feel that you don’t like it when people call you either name, or you may love it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] what makes you smile and don’t feel like you have to do it any certain way, no matter what someone else thinks you should do. Good luck!

Thank you for the support and great replies! I really appreciate it

I agree, I would suggest using it and seeing how it makes you feel. I’ve actually liked [name_f]Hana[/name_f] for a long time, I think it’s beautiful! It’s a great choice.

Are you thinking [name_f]Hana[/name_f] would be more of an occasional nickname for Waihan, or a variation that you would primarily use? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer to use a nickname (perhaps to make the name feel more your own?), or is it simply a concern about pronunciation for Waihan?

In any case, Waihan is lovely, and it must be very special to have your name connecting you with your mother. I can definitely see how you get [name_f]Hana[/name_f] from Waihan, and [name_f]Hana[/name_f] is also a pretty name (according to Wikipedia it also has many different origins, so while I also thought of its Japanese roots first, it seems quite international–always a good thing in my book!).

It sounds like you have a good plan, to start using either Waihan or [name_f]Hana[/name_f] (or both) and see how you feel. [name_f]Gia[/name_f]-Waihan is a beautiful name, and gives you many possibilities–good luck settling on the one that feels right for you!
