Help with Name Spelling and Pronunciation!

So my husband and I like the name ([name_m]Zo[/name_m]-shah) but we can’t agree how it should be spelled. I think the most common spelling is [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] and I really like how it looks and I think it’s somewhat intuitive pronunciation. However my husband thinks that Zotia is a more intuitive for pronunciation and that [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] would be pronounced as (Zoh-see-ah) … but I don’t know how I feel about the Zotia spelling. We’ve also talked about Zocia and [name_f]Zosha[/name_f].

Which spelling do you like.

I’m also not opposed to [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] pronounced (ZOH-see-ah). [name_f]Do[/name_f] you prefer [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] as zo-shah or zo-see-ah?

Sorry this seems really long and rambling. I just love this name so much and I want other’s opinions.

I think [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] is more intuitive than Zotia - after all, it’s the common spelling so people have an idea about it. I like both pronunciations, but say zo-shah.

I would pronounce [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] zo-see-ah but I’m not sure why because I would pronounce [name_f]Asia[/name_f] as a-shah

People are dumb and will probably assume Zoh-Tee-ah or Zoh-See-[name_m]Ah[/name_m] with those two spellings. There’s a similar problem with the [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]. I think if you are worried about having to correct people go with [name_f]Zosha[/name_f] because it’s the most phonetic. I do think that people should figure out quickly once corrected so if you don’t mind explaining upon meeting someone new go with [name_f]Zosia[/name_f]. Personally I prefer the [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] spelling but if you are open to them all [name_f]Zosha[/name_f] might be simplest.

i think [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] and [name_f]Zosha[/name_f] would be the most familiar to people, as someone said i think Zotia might get zo-tee-ah more often than zo-shah :thinking:

[name_f]Zosha[/name_f] is most intuitive.

The sia /cia / tia will all inevitably vary across latinate/germanic based languages.

[name_f]Cia[/name_f] - either see-uh (spanish) or tchi-uh (italian). E.g. [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] is pronounced both ways ; but ciao, ciabatta, etc are the tchi sound.

[name_f]Tia[/name_f] - either tee-ya (spanish/italian) or see-ya (french). E.g. [name_f]Tia[/name_f] (aunt) ; democratia

Sia - can take see-ya, she-ya, shya, juh, zee-uh, etc. Italian “siamo” (we are) is see-amo, and then you have Asia (juh) and Asiatic (zee-attic), which change the pronunciation when the noun is converted to an adj.

Sha is the most straight forward, TBH

Zosha however runs the risk of rhyming with Tosha.

And then there is Asiatic [ Ay-zee-a-tic ], which rhymes with “lazy attic”, not “ay she attic”

I like the [name_f]Zosia[/name_f] spelling best, but I do think people will mispronounce it (however I don’t think it would be hard to correct.) But if you’re really concerned about the pronunciation [name_f]Zosha[/name_f] is really the only phonetic spelling that I think most people will get first time.

I prefer the pronunciation ZO-shuh and the spelling [name_f]Zosia[/name_f]. Zotia may be pronounced zo-tee-uh by some. [name_f]Zosha[/name_f] also works.
