Help with our shortlist?

Hello berries! We’re still a few weeks out from finding out the sex of our little nugget, but I’ve (naturally) been thinking about names anyway. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I are basically decided when it comes to boy names, but are having a bit of a struggle with girls’.

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband has expressed that he’s open to any of these names, though he isn’t in love with any of them. I was hoping I could get some thoughts/advice/imagery from some wise berries that I could show him to help him maybe warm up to one (or more)! If it would help, our last name is very similar to [name_m]Burroughs[/name_m] (spelled a bit differently).

[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]

I am open to suggestions as well! Thanks in advance.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f]. To me, [name_f]Cora[/name_f] feels sweet, intelligent, classic, elegant. It reminds me of how I feel about [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is feels sweet and sassy/spunky to me. I also like [name_f]Violet[/name_f], it’s just been feeling trendy to me lately. [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is a bit too simple for me, and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is nms, though I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Mira[/name_f], and [name_f]Miri[/name_f] is also a cute nickname.

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from your list are [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f].
I would just advise against [name_f]Rose[/name_f] because [name_f]Rose[/name_f] [name_m]Burroughs[/name_m] is very matchy with the end of [name_m]Burroughs[/name_m] basically being “rose”

I think you have a great list of names, but I feel like [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is too simple to be a first name. What about moving it to the middle spot? Any of your other names would go great with [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as a middle:

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] has long been a favorite of mine. Interesting - both [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] are characters on Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u]. Are you a fan?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I’ve been a little hesitant about [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], mostly since we have a close friend named [name_f]Annie[/name_f]… too weird or just me being silly? I also think of [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] [name_u]Lee[/name_u], which is super depressing. I’m glad that others have a positive association, though, that is helping me warm up to it!

@joymarcie I have seen 2 seasons of Downton [name_u]Abbey[/name_u], but it’s mostly a coincidence that both names are on our list! [name_f]Cora[/name_f] actually came to us from The Last of the Mohicans which we both love.

Keep it coming!

[name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] are my favorites. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are nice too but definitely more simple. [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] is nms.

One thing to consider is that, if you like nicknames, [name_f]Cora[/name_f] doesn’t really have any. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_u]Cory[/name_u] and I have gotten [name_m]Cor[/name_m], but there is really no way to shorten it. However, I do get called by my first and middle name a lot, since they are both short. If you like the two name vibe, you could do [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and call her by her first and middle.

I like [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] the most. [name_m]How[/name_m] about Rosabel?

There are some fine names on your list and it’s tough to eliminate any of them so I’m going to choose them on the basis of how they flow with your last name.

Top Two

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I think this name has the best flow with your surname. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] “[name_m]Burroughs[/name_m]” sounds like a best-selling mystery novelist. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is spunky and sassy - a woman who speaks her mind.
[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] - a serious, Biblical name of great depth. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is a capable and intelligent lady.

[name_f]Rose[/name_f] - this name is ok but I don’t really like how it sounds with a name like [name_m]Burroughs[/name_m] (s’s)
[name_f]Cora[/name_f] - [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_m]Burroughs[/name_m] doesn’t sound ideal (r’s).
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f] - I love the name but the “bel” doesn’t sound good with [name_m]Burroughs[/name_m] (b’s)

[name_f]My[/name_f] favourites are [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f] (maybe I’m a sucker for florals…)

[name_f]Violet[/name_f] sounds very spunky and sweet to me
[name_f]Rose[/name_f] is just a classic to me… I personally like [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], but would use [name_f]Rose[/name_f] for a nn

The other names are very lovely too!

Thank you, everyone! I appreciate everyone’s responses. I’m looking forward to showing them to my husband later!

[name_f]My[/name_f] suggestions are [name_f]Cara[/name_f] or [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Mallory[/name_f]…

I am trying to suggest names that remind me of the ones on your list. [name_f]Violet[/name_f] is my fave! maybe you like [name_f]Viola[/name_f]…?

the first three are my favorite: [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], & [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. I like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] the best and spelled [name_f]Violette[/name_f].

Some varitations/similar names:

[name_f]Violette[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cara[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]/[name_f]Cassie[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f] best, due to a combination of flow and general vibe. [name_f]Cora[/name_f] especially feels like the name of a really intelligent, gorgeous, empathetic person (and I like Last of the Mohicans as well!)

Your description of [name_f]Cora[/name_f] is exactly how I imagine her too. I’m in love with the name, but my name is [name_u]Cory[/name_u] and it just seems too close.

We both also like [name_f]Sybella[/name_f] and [name_m]Sirius[/name_m] (darn [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]), although lately I have found myself warming up to the [name_f]Sybil[/name_f] form as well (which was previously one of my most hated).

[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] flower name but maybe a bit too close to ‘violent’?

Other ‘v’ names: [name_f]Valentina[/name_f], [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]?

[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
Pretty name but too simple?
[name_m]How[/name_m] about: [name_f]Rosa[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f], [name_f]Rosanne[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosanna[/name_f], [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_f]Rosabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Rosie[/name_f]/[name_f]Rosy[/name_f], [name_f]Rosaleen[/name_f], [name_f]Rosalind[/name_f], [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f], [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Rosette[/name_f]?

[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it, but is it too harsh?
[name_m]How[/name_m] about: [name_f]Coral[/name_f], [name_f]Corabel[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_f]Coraline[/name_f]?

[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
Gorgeous, traditional name.
Other suggestions: [name_f]Annabella[/name_f], [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Annalise[/name_f], [name_f]Annamae[/name_f], [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]?

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
Not a fan of this, but it’s sweet!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about: [name_f]Miriah[/name_f], [name_f]Mirielle[/name_f], [name_f]Mirinda[/name_f]?

this was lovely to read! [name_f]Cora[/name_f]'s spot in my top 5 for a potential daughter has been wavering, but this helped to solidify it
